...has anybody noticed how poorly Pete Carroll's players have made the transition into the NFL? Carroll has had 17 players drafted in day one since 2004 (not including the '08 draft of course) and of those 17, just 5 are currently starters in the NFL. Among those 17 are players that are, at least so far, huge busts...

Dwayne Jarrett - Bad rookie year and has been called out by teammates during training camp
Reggie Bush - I don't think I even need to comment here
Matt Leinart - Was just beat out by an AARP member
Frostee Rucker - Has done nothing since being suspended part of his rookie year
Dominique Byrd - 3rd round pick who is already unemployed after just 2 seasons
Mike Williams - Maybe one of the biggest busts in NFL history

Then you have guys like LandWhale who have been marginal due to injuries and buffets, Steve Smith who made a couple of big plays in the playoffs but was limited to just 8 regular season catches due to injury and Kenechi Udeze who has been sidelined with Leukemia.

Pete Carroll has put some good O-linemen into the NFL. Ryan Kalil, Deuce Lutui, Winston Justice, etc. are all either staring or significant contributers, but they are the exception. Pete Carroll's biggest success stories are probably Keary Colbert and Lofa Tatupu who were both 2nd round picks.

We've all seen all the 5 star talent USC gets year in and year out, so why does that talent win so many games at USC but struggle so badly in the NFL? There was an article that was published before the most recent draft that suggested the players from USC are soft and win so many games in college because of the sheer amount of talent, but struggle in the NFL because they have never been challeneged. Thoughts?

BTW, Carson Palmer and Troy Polamalu were both 1st round picks and both have been outstanding, but it's hard to call them products of Pete Carroll's program since both were at USC long before Carroll.

while it is true that usc talent hasn't transferred well to sundays, i don't see how that denigrates usc in the least. maybe taking a cut in pay explains it all anyway.

No, I don't think it denigrates the program at all, but I find it interesting that with all the talent they pull in and the fact that Carroll is a former NFL coach who runs NFL styled schemes, his players don't pan out well in the NFL.
