How Far Do Yall Think Abilene Will Go In D2

They will definitely be playing T-day weekend. The D has come around - not as good as last year - but I think the offense will be even better in the po's than last year thanks to Mr. Potts. His will is very strong right now - a special player. The running game is clicking and he has found some folks to throw to other than Leong - namely his other wide-out Jason Boone. Don't overlook AHS - they are on fire right now.

Taylor is playing lights out right now and seems to be on a mission. He is 22-1 as a starter and I am guessing is the most experienced (or one of the most experienced) QBs in the playoffs. I know you cannot look past your next opponent but they should steamroll the next 2 teams and yes, play on Thanksgiving weekend. I wish my fellow Eagle fans would STOP starting threads about them though. We would like to keep flying under the radar! ;) I guess it is a little late for that though.

You are going to see a few of the matchups you did last year.

Abilene v SLC

Longview v Lufkin

The only thing Abilene High has to be thinking about right now is the match-up friday night with Weatherford. Abilene has been caught looking ahead before, remember Lubbock Monterrey in 2000, they beat us 27-17 in Bi-District, after we had blown them out earlier in the season. More evidence of that is the 2001 Area round when El Paso Del Valle beat us 14-10. Abilene High does not have the luxury to take any team for granted. They are very young and don't have the senior leadership or experience that they had last year. Add to that, our offense has struggeld this season and our defense is not what it was last year. We've had to replace 17 starters. I think that the Eagles are fortunate to be in the playoffs. Its a testament to Coach Warren and his desire to win. Which brings me to the coaching staff. They have gone through some turnover. The players have gotten an opportunity to work with the new coaches, but the playoffs are whole new game. We've yet to see how the coaching staff responds. I think everyone can agree that at this point the Eagles have only won a District Championship but our recent history pales in comparison to the successes that SLC, Lufkin, Plano, Judson, Katy and all of the other recent state championship teams have had. Abilene High hasn't won a championship since 1956. I think those other teams that have had more recent success can make those plans for round Three. Abilene High needs to do all it can to prepare for Weatherford. The Eagles need to keep focused and take care of each game one at a time. Going deep into the playoffs will take of itself. I would ask all Eagle supporters to foucs on the game at hand rather that counting our chicks before they hatch. We've got an important game ahead of us this week with --- Weatherford. -- Good Luck to all and see ya'll in the playoffs --

Eagle Hombre, you have said so many things that I take exception to that I will just focus on just a couple. First the statement that we are "fortunate" to be in the playoffs is ludicrous. How can you say a 10 - 0 teams is fortunate to be in the playoffs. That's really a lot of good fortune. The other point is your statement that we do not have the senior leadership that we did last year. That statement is both insulting and misinformed. The senior leadership is one of the reasons we are 10 - 0.
This years version of the AHS Eagles have earned the right to be where they are.
I assure you that this team is very focused on one week at a time. For Pete's sake these kids were in middle school during the 2000 playoffs and what that team did or didn't do then has little to do with this team.

I've always like Abilene.. Nice town.. Met a girl there back in '97. Her name was Katie.. the times we had...uh.. haha.. sorry..

I think the Ab. Eagles will go a long way in the playoffs (whether they can make it to the champ. game is a big "if"). Ab. is just as good this yr. on def., IMO, while the off. doesn't seem quite as good to me. The running game isn't quite as good this yr. (yet). So far the passing game has been mainly restricted to one receiver (this may change in the playoffs because the team is improving ea. wk.). Sometimes this yr. the Eagles haven't been consistent on off. The def. has always played well.

I still think Ab. would be a formidable opponent to any team in the st. I don't think Ab. is quite as good as last yr., but neither is SLC, IMO. Our dist. was pretty strong this yr., & Ab. sailed through it pretty comfortably, so they have to be a pretty decent team.

I hope Ab. does win st., & I wish them luck.

Get off your soapbox Hombre. Not one of these young men were on those teams that bowed out early. Now many of the coaches WERE and should have learned from that experience and warned this bunch about complacency.

You are doing these guys a disservice to say that they are lucky to be in the playoffs- they ROLLED the opponents in the district that THIS SITE calls the 3rd toughest 5A district in the state. You might try watching a few games before judging how good this team is.

Why do you feel that SLC is not as good as last year. The Offense has scored more points ad Defense has conceded fewer points, with 3 shut outs - something last year's team failed to do and the margin of victory is greater than last year's. I feel that is what all the folks in Southlake are hoping - is that you think the 2005 team is not as good as 2004 or 2003 or 2002 - all reached the State Championship game. The one misjudgment is see from many posters of many play-offs teams is thinking that SLC is not as good as last year.

Purple Haze - I've been following the Eagles for a long time. I was raised there in Abilene and graduated from AHS in '86. Even though I live in Plano, I catch them every chance I get. This year I saw them play Lubbock Monterry in Abilene, Rockhurst in Texas Stadium and went to see them play Cooper. As for catching a few games I think I qualify -- The Eagles just need to take one game at a time and take it as far as we can go -- Let's go Warbirds -- :D :D

SLC is a very good team, but I don't think they'll win st. this yr. I've only seen 2 SLC games: Lee & the DR games. I'm no expert on SLC; it's just my opinion. I assure SLC fans that Ab. doesn't take them lightly. If it helps any, I really don't think Ab. Hi will win st., either (As a "homer," I just hope they do).

If you saw those games then you should know that this team is playing at a very high level-one that might take them really deep in the playoffs. They have as good a shot as the other top teams in the state. All teams, not just the Eagles, have to take it one game at a time or they may be sitting at home prematurely. That goes without saying.

The thing I love about high school football is that there are no "definites" as so many people are apt to "predict". I wonder how many times a team has lost because they were "looking ahead", but their fans always seem to find another excuse for the loss. ;) I "predict" that the state champion(s) will be the team(s) that go on a five or six game winning streak to finish out their season. That's tough to do no matter what team you are!

I can say two things for Abilene:

1. as SLC learned last year...don't underestimate them! A very good and well disciplined team

2. absolutely amazing fan support; have to rank right up there with SLC, Katy, Lufkin, etc. -- I remember walking into Tx Stadium last year and being completely shocked that they had an equal number of fans on their side despite the fact they had to drive 2 hours more than the Dragon faithful.

Any idea where the remath would be played?

Unless someone knows something I don't --

If SLC and Abilene meet in round 3 it will be in Abilene. Texas Stadium was home for SLC last year and UIL rules state if you play the same team in the playoffs within a two year period it is a home and home.

Last year SLC got to play Smithson Valley at Texas Stadium without a flip or anything because they played in San Antonio for the 2002 title game.

Abilene may choose Texas Stadium. It is definitely the best venue between Southlake and Abilene. They may choose Shotwell, but I doubt it.

I am still not sure whether Texas Stadium is a neutral site or a home game for the Dragons. I think that Carroll was actually the "away" team in that game meaning they were in their road uniforms.

it was generally assumed to be psychological, but c wasson didn't play well on the ts crown, and so we shied away that year. c daniel didn't have throwing problems there. don't know about mce, but i'd be surprised if it cropped up. i remember hearing that ahs accepted ts as a neutral field. if so, then it's a clean slate this year.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but who would we want to play an El Paso or Lubbock team in Texas stadium? It will either be home and home or we will travel west to some neutral site.

no usually in order to get Texas Stadium you have to schedule a week in advance. So if it is Carroll vs. a metroplex team and Abilene Vs. EP or Lubbock they would have to agree to Texas Stadium before those games are played. Usually the EP and Lubbock Teams do not agree to Texas Stadium leaving the rest of the teams without a site.

Depending on the outcomes of this weeks games i believe AHS will play the El Paso team in Pecos ( ) and Monty in Lubbock per our earlier game with them this season at Shotwell. As far as SLC, yes they were the away team, but you agree to play a site first and then flip for home or away, so Texas Stadium still could have been an SLC choice, and I also remember Warren had to be convinced to play there so most likely it was a home-home deal. Shotwell would be a huge advantage for AHS and I honestly hope it happens, the stadium can be filled up to almost 19K. There is no doubt that for SLC (at least last year) Texas Stadium might as well have been dragon stadium as much as they played there and how close it was to home. Good luck SLC, I know the Eagle players arent looking ahead, but I know you guys certainly arent looking past a very good Irving Mac team.
