its as if they reverse their bottum half and top half...most have dark hair, now they have black pants, they wear white pants, now that goes to blonde head!

Your right, thats why I dont see the point in it? You can just ignore me, I am more old school, and dont agree with this stuff. I guess I learned it from my dad and grandfather. Its also one of the things I liked at SV, just work hard and play. Lots of schools do the sticker thing too, the bleach is just SLC so far, and it is covered most of the time. Either way its their program, and they can do what they want. I just had to put my .02 in..

Is the "whole" team going to do it this year? If so, I guess its ok. I just have noticed that some of the other players didnt in the past, and it seemed odd. But like I said, the stickers on the helmets gets to me more than the bleach. It just brings out the individualism in a team atmosphere. However, there are a lot of teams still doing this, I am 3rd gen and it was never a part of our system, so I really dont like that. Just tell the team to make sure everyone is bleached, that way it will be a team event. Even the kids that never get to play need to do it.

Yea, the stickers on helmets for good plays drive me nuts. I always have believed that the team made the play, not the player. Say you toss a 70 yard TD pass to Renfro. I assume McElroy and Renfro get a sticker to add to the collection, but what about the line? They were blocking, and the RB? He picked up the blitz. And the other WR's that drew the SS to their side of the field so Renfro could be man-to-man. If all of these do not take place, there is not TD, McElroy either gest sacked, the SS picks the ball off, or Renfro get double teamed, and its not a complete pass. They should all get a sticker. Now the defense might have just recoved a fumble, or picked the ball off, giving them the opportunity, thus also earning a sticker. Is this the way SLC does it, earned stickers for good plays? They might do it differently, but that is the way other teams do it. You see linemen with 4-5 stickers, and RB's with 50, not good to me.

The stickers are not given to individuals, they are for team goals. Some are for individual players, but it is done in a system, not just "hey you did good her have a sticker." Also, special team goal stickers are given.

Classy, and I will, but dont forget, they said close to the same thing last year about SV. Except it was getting past round one, if they even made the playoffs. We all know what happened in the end. As for that recollection, dont take it the wrong way, SLC won and deserved it. Just saying that if Hill wanted to, that game could have went into OT. I promise you that... He made a gutsy call and tried to just get the win (I am glad he did), and it didnt work out. He had faith in the defense to get him another shot, and they forced a 40 yard field goal attempt. Good job SLC. Nothing twisted about the recollection. As for the little wise crack, SLC is not looking like they will get as far either, do you think otherwise?

It wasn't luck that gave the Tigers last posession in the 2003 game. It was coaching. That coaching coveted the win.

The only way Katy was going to win the game from the get-go was through a coaching decision to control possession and eat the clock. Katy was outmatched on offense and would have lost if it were just a matter of luck in possession. Katy never really has star athletes - just good ones who are well disiplined and focused. They listen to their coaches and win.

My recollection of that game was that it was a great game between 2 solid programs. I just don't feel that it was a case of "the last team with the ball wins." But then again, you know what they say about not being able to remember pain. Maybe I am like a mother after child birth and forgot all the pain!

Regarding SLC, the stats all say we are a better team than last year. Scoring more points and giving up less; however, I would say the opponents were not as tough in '05 as they were last year. I do know the D is better this year. Last year good passing teams had their way with us. Not the case this year.

05 had Luna and Daniel. Mac is a better passer and runs well. Daniel was a playmaker with experience. Mac has shown great skill and heart. newton can run and is a breakaway threat if not injured. Luna was a true leader that can't be replaced. only time will tell.

If you remember correctly Sv was 8-2 going into playoffs last year, hmm what are they now? 9-1 I do believe and many of those games were close but 26-5 is known for its tough district competition and the only thing those close games did was give Sv a chance to play a playoff type atmosphere before entering the playoffs. SV has a better record and a sense of urgency this year. I'm not saying they will go all the way, I hope they do, and will stay with them all the way but come play off time they have played at least 2 or 3 games that came down to the last few minutes. How do most playoff games end? In the last few minutes of the game so Sv will have that experience if it comes down to it.

If you remember back to the San Benito game last year they were undefeated district and many thought Sv would lose and what happened? Anything can happen lets just wait and see...

Why start building your unity in the Playoffs? Shouldn't it be started when the team is first formed. If SLC goes into the playoffs Undefeated year after year the hair dying, black pants, and stars doesnt unify them at all, because THEY ARE ALREADY UNIFIED.

SV starts its unity in Bootcamp back in February every year, I'm sure SLC does something similiar but my point is that the Pants, Stars, and Hair is all for show. The stars fill the players with arrogance and defeats the unity the hair was dyed for. Sure it doesn't effect the team because when you have 6 amazing recievers, a good o-line and a Qb who can throw the ball any team can move the ball. I can see wearing the black pants and dying the hair when playoff comes but not as unity, more for tradition, a celebration for making it. ;) but thats just my opinion.

I'm telling them to stop it, I think its actually cool, and it obviously doesn't hurt their preformance So They can take a note from judson(and not fix what isn't broken), but I'm from SV and I like how we do things here

Could not agree more. The black pants give the kids something to work towards, and the blonde hair shows how unified a team can get. This is a lot of what I was trying to explaing to dragonfootballfan when he was knocking the Haka. High School kids will do anything to come together as one whether it be dying the hair or doing a dance. If it aing broke dont fix it, and for Carroll this has been the trademark of their players for years.

I'm an SV fan and personally, I like our plain unis, the numbers on the helmets, the old school approach ect, ect. But I also think it's kinda of neat what SLC does. If the blond hair is what they want to do show unity then more power to um. It is something the kids can look forward to in the playoffs. It's doesn't have to be all business all the time. Hell, they are kids, let them have some fun. Maybe some people are jealous of SLC and are using the dyed hair as something to complain about.
As for the crack about the playoffs, don't count out the Rangers just yet. ;)

You need to check your grammar book again. As with most cases in the English language there are exceptions to everything. In the case where the preposition preceeds an adjective or noun with a soft or silent consonant, "an" is correct.

I don't think traditionalists should be labeled as "haters". I don't hate SLC for bleaching their hair, its just a purposeless teen tradition at that school unless they all do it, then it could be a tradition used to bond before the playoffs. (I'll do something that'll make me look like an idiot everywhere else as a sign of my commitment to winning this thing) I say, go for it.

Some of us just appreciate the no frills, no nonsense teams that aren't looking for attention and don't need anything more than the commitment they made in August to carry them through and do the job well. Katy is a HS team that comes to mind.

There's a reason teams like Penn State and Notre Dame don't use individual achievement stickers, put names on their jersey, or change their uniform to the latest thing every new season... Because football has traditionally been about team accomplishment, not at the salon, but on the field...

I have no problem with it - but, here's the reality -- even if 90% of the players DIDN'T think the blonde hair created more unity - they're bleaching it anyway - too much pressure to not rock the boat of tradition.

I mean, what are you gonna tell the 300 players from the past 5 years who expect you to follow in their footsteps?

"Hey, we just felt like being different this year and not doing it - we're starting a new tradition".

Yeah, right. The time to have stopped it would have been after the loss to Katy. Who knows now - we may be talking about this for 25 more years.

Ok, first off i dont know where the whole team unity thing came from with the bleach hair! It is just a way for high school football players, who are great friends to build life long memories! 10 years down the road they will say, damn we looked dumb as hell with our hair like that but, man was it fun! Its about making a memory playing a sport!

Now to the black pants, it is a tradition! Simple as that!

Now to a tradition that has been broken at carroll which greatly upsets me! The tradition of CICI's Pizza! The players used to go to CICI's Pizza every Saturday after film and what not as a team! To see who could eat the most! ANd i asked a player on this years team if they did it and they just looked at me like i was an idiot! I'm very disapointed!!!

I am very upset with that too. There would also usually be a birthday party or soccer party in there at the same time. All the little kids were so happy to see the dragon football players. Also there was nothing better than having a person go up to the manager and ask, "Why is there no pizza left on the buffet?" the manager would then either just point or say that the football team was here. That was so great.

How things change when the shoe is on the other foot....Many posters ridicule the HAKA from Trinity as a unity symbol, now they do the same thing in regard to the bleach heads at SLC. Just let the kids enjoy the moment and have fun watching them. GOOD GRIEF, Charlie Brown !!! Yes it is a team unity thing...yes it is fun to see them have fun, yes it is okay for kids to have fun. All us old farts are just jealous cuz we don't have enough hair to do it and didn't do it when we were young. Have a blast SLC and Trinity...go with what got ya here. Oh yeah...keep saying nothing about Trinity since they lost. They will make plenty of noise all the way to state. D-1 is not a cake walk; but they will take the walk.

I am with you. I am a new poster to this board so this has probably been shared hundreds of times already, but if you want to see a video fo the HAKA go here: http://www.texasfootball.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=33&url_article_id=478&url_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2

BTW, I am not affiliated with ET in any way, I just love HSFB and get much enjoyment following the different area programs.

I hate to tell you Zippy, but when the Rangers made the playoffs in 1996 (2nd time in school history), the whole team shaved their heads. Stuff like this happens everywhere.
Everywhere is right! Many years ago in Detroit, our team shaved their heads before playing our big rival which was unbeaten. Alas, they remained so. (33-0) You can imagine what crap they took afterwards. It remained a hot topic at the ten year reunion.

Stuff like this is fun. ;)

You need to check your grammar book again. As with most cases in the English language there are exceptions to everything. In the case where the preposition preceeds an adjective or noun with a soft or silent consonant, "an" is correct.
well i suck at la anyways.. this is a rarity though, anybody remember that farnheit 451 project essay thing i typed up last week?? i got a 98 on it! a book i didnt even read, it was awesome

another possible thought on the blonde hair...could it be to get reconized?? just walking around school, or in public and people may not put faces with names, and be like oh good game stuff when they see the hair?

You are correct in that "an" should be used before a silent H such as "I will see you in an hour." However, the word "an" is not a preposition. It is an indefinite article.

as if we care.

no people just do it, because the people before them did it. I am pretty sure that it started out as sort of a joke and has grown way out of proportion.

Have you seen it happen since 1996? No. Have you seen things go to the basic (uniforms) etc.? Yes. Football in #1 now.

Does South Lake have any African American players? I thought they were just a bunch of rich white kids? ;)

almost doesn't count. Are you using better talent as an excuse for losing?

Are you going to sit there and say that SLC didnt have more talent than SV? If so, then I guess I wont use that as a reason, not an excuse. As a team, they must have been better to even better. They did go into the half with the lead, and was tied with 6 sec's left. Take it like you want, and I will take it like I want. And please, quit searching my posts looking for ways to try and put me down, cause it isnt working.

Look, you are using better talent as an excuse. That is just saying they won because they are better. You are trying to say that Carroll was worse than Smithson Valley except that they had better talent. I dissagree.
