I wasn't very impressed, but the season is very young.

I expected a close game, so the result doesn't surprise me. Permian graduated a talented senior class on both sides of the ball, and Duncanville is in the first year with a new coaching staff of course.

I think it is a quality W for Permian despite the fact they've obviously got some things to clean up as far as turnovers are concerned.

Yeah, I do think Permian can be a very good team with some more exp.

Duncanville will be a playoff team. They look scary. I felt we needed to make Miller throw the ball, and contain him. We did not contain him at times. We did a lot of good things, and we also did some dumb things. Allowing the reverse for the score in the first half was very un-Permian like. We just over ran the play instead of playing contain, and got burned. Got greedy at the end, and almost got bit in the behind. Definitely some opportunities to coach 'em up this coming week, but a win is a win. I predicted 31-20 Permian, so I wasn't too far off.

By my count, we were 3-7 in Red Zone opportunities. That tells the story of the game pretty much. I felt like we were clearly the better team, but Duncanville was good enough that they were able to create opportunities and take advantage of them. We have to clean things up a lot, but we lost the turnover battle badly, made some assignment mistakes on defense and made some pretty piss poor decisions at the end of the game and still came out of the game with a W against a VERY talented team. Duncanville was better than advertised for sure.

Mojo 28
Duncanville 22

Our corners were asleep for most of the game and our O seemed to lack the stamina to stay in the game for 4 quarters. Turnovers hurt us with 2 picks at the goal line and one TD called back on a hold, The reverse ate us up and our D couldn't seem to follow the ball. The snaps were horrible just as they were in the scrimmage last week, We have a long road ahead of us for sure. You can't win games by giving up a 21 point lead and giving the opposing team opportunities with making bad decisions(last 24 sec of game).

Well I listened to the radio online, and I thought Adams and the center needed to pick it up or this year is going to a long one.

Overall very optimistic night for Permian. Thought we were ready to roll starting the third quarter, but it seemed as if we got a little hesistant after the last touchdown. Linebackers definetly need some work and the ends have got to get to the ball quicker. Secondary was very susecptible to jumping the play to early and what happened to the speed of the McDowells. Seems like they got torched by little 22. Offense looked good, but seemed to have a few miscues. However, I am very pleased with the win and glad to see we have things to work on moving forward. Now the shift of our attention turns to San Angelo Central who is always a fun and tough opponent to play.

GO MOJO!!!!!

Sounds like Duncanville has made some progress from last year. They may be an interesting team to keep our eyes on.

I see Duncanville has a totally new look. They went from the Red helmets with the Panther head made by letters to a blue helmet with a white paw.

Funny how 2 people can watch the same game and come away with totally different views. I though Permian looked good. Not great. But still good. I think the 2008 offense can be very effective moving the chains- not quite as machine like as last year but still very effective. The Permian D is where I saw the dropoff from last year. Perhaps I am spoiled by watching the Abilene High D pursue the way they do year after year. Mojo in their heyday was always known for having a tenacious D so I imagine the longtime faithful pine for that again. Last year was a start towards building the D's reputation back. This was this year's Mojo D's first game- I would not overreact by any means. I did not think Duncanville looked all that good myself. But it was also THEIR first game. Let's give these young men some slack. ;)

Will someone please explain to me why in the world Permian called for a reverse pass with 24 seconds left in the 4th and no timeouts for Duncanville!? Then it got picked off and what if they had run it back for a TD or something extreme? I've always been real impressed with the play calling and game planning of the Permian coaching staff, but this one was beyond me.

I think Allman wanted to pad his lead because he knew a 6 point win to a team that wasn't ranked was going to drop him in the rankings.

Permian threw two picks in the last two minutes of the game when Duncanville only had one time out. Not very smart. It almost bit em in the rear-end.

That's the only conclusion I could come up with for the call. First half Permian looked like a top notch football team. Second half, not so much.

first of all, almond couldn't give a crap about any rankings. he knows they don't mean anything. what matters is the end of the year. the play calling at the end was crazy for anyone to watch, but i wouldn't trade the offense cord for anyone else. i don't think darren calls the plays. i think the end of the game will help both teams in the long run. i for one didn't know what to expect from permian this year, but when they put 4 quarters together, they will make some noise. any team that returns 18 to 20 starters from the year before like duncanville, is flat out scarry.much less when you have all the tallent they do. that is alot of experience returning.

Give the Mojo staff a little more credit than that. I am sure they were really concerned about where they came out of that game ranking wise. ;)

Allman was playing a bunch of people and trying a lot of things that wouldn't be done in a game where something important was on the line. I was excited and very, very pleased with what I saw.

Of course, I am seriously upset that our 4.6 defensive backs weren't able to run down a 4.4 sprinter, but on the other hand our "Little White Boy" did pretty well on a couple of deep routes, even if one of them was called back.

I was thinking the exact same thing when that happened. Duncanville was definitely better than advertised, and I expect them to be competitive in the relatively near future on a state-level. However, I just bring up again that we were 3/7 in red zone attempts and lost the turnover battle 4-0 against a VERY VERY fast and talented team, and still won the game despite practically handing it to them at the end. In that respect I am really pleased with the game. I didn't like seeing the reverse pass with 30 something seconds left, but does anyone think that might be a little bit of retaliation for the pointless timeout/two-point conversion that can't really be explained? I just wonder if that might have had something to do with it. It was a great play by the DB's of Duncanville to come up with the picks though. I was impressed with their athleticism and their composure under a new coach. My one complaint is the speaker guy with his artificial noise. There were a few times that thing was going during the play. Good luck to them for the rest of the year anyway. Now district starts.

Let's not forget on that last ill advised play, the Duncanville DB made a heck of a play to tip the ball, then another defender got the tip. It was kind of fluky (the int off the tip), and definitely a great play. Sure, chastise the play call, but also give the defense credit where credit is due.

Hopefully we can bounce back as well as Trinity did from their 5 TOs to us in game one last year...:D
