I know this topic is old and warn, but you know I wasnt around here when this became a big deal, what do y'all think about prayer given by the PA, on a friday night?

I personaly dont have a problim with that bc, it doesnt have to be a relgious moment...

The reason I say "no" has nothing to do with being the liberal type or separation of church and state and stuff, it has to do with being completely unnecessary. I think teams should be able to pray together in the locker room, but over the PA?? It's just unnecessary. Anyone on the field or in the stadium that wants to pray can do it themselves.

if it's not religious what is it?? a blessing of the players and those there?? Who are you offering the blessing to??

I'm actually in the group that thinks teams should be allowed to pray, but over the PA is just ridiculous.

I like the idea. And also I dont have any problems with it. Imagine 20000 people saying the same prayer for example SLC vs Permian at Dragon stadium ....

"God Almighty, please let us SLC Dragon players and fans beat the Permian Panthers on this great night, thank you God."

If I was a Permian played Id be intimidated.

I wouldn't....I'd just think they were all in a cult.

most of the 20k would be praying for room to breathe as 10k is over the capacity.

When you stand up for God you are going to catch some flack, so here it goes. The problem with not only the school system but our nation and world is that God is being and has been taken out. Of course it shouldn't be a problem to pray over the PA. People stand and cuss the coaches and down the players, so shouldn't we be able to pray over the PA. Some say b/c it would offend someone, well cussing the coaching and downing the players offends me.

You Texans certainly are crazy...this is the second poll I've been blasted on...

12 to 1?!?!?! Why is it necessary to pray?? I'm not talking about offending anyone, I'm talking about necessity...

Why don't we pray at the HS baseball games...??

Why don't we pray at the H-E-B????

Let's just stop what we are doing and start praying together online....

God,

let's bless the migty gridiron of texas football, and get those Tyler Lee boys to smack up Concha's Ohio kids....

Amen

What is so wrong with praying for everyone to be safe? How does that infringe on any religion? Is that not a pretty common sentiment among the religions? I've never understood why people would be opposed to the pre-game prayers.

Sherrif,
I think the whole reason it started is because football is an extremely dangerous sport. On every single play there is the potential for someone to get seriously injured. We want our kids/family members/friends/etc. to be safe out there. What's wrong with that? True, it's not totally necessary to be done aloud over the PA, but, why is it necessary to silence it? Had it never been done in the first place we wouldn't be talking about it and it wouldn't be a big deal. But, since it had been done for years and years, people got used to it and had it taken away...and for no good reason.

They don't pray aloud over the intercom at the H-E-B because there's not a history of people tearing up knees or breaking bones while strolling down the bread aisle.

Leave it to wide-e-wide to squeeze in a beer reference
on a thread about prayer.

That's why they pay me the big bucks.

i think that it would be a good idea if u knew everyone theres religon.im all 4 praying b4 games, but i thknk it would be a better idea to do it only with the team in the huddle or by urself.

This is one of those very debatable subjects that tends to tear at the fibers of our familys, communitys and even our country. This country was founded on religious freedom...I am an advocate of keeping it that way. A prayer at a football game is something that I would embrace as part of my heritage.
I know others don't share those same memories or beliefs and thats fine too.
I think the fire gets stoked however when those who don't share those beliefs
think that it's their right to insist that others don't express their's. If your uncomfortable standing in a stadium before a football game listening to a 30 second prayer .....I'll pray for you.

You obviously haven't been between a woman with a cell phone in her ear, her fully loaded grocery cart and the checkout lane at the H-E-B on Fry Rd.

I think tradition comes into to play here also. Prayer, bands play school songs, national athem, coin flip, kick off. Texas high school football baby. ;)

i see no problems with it all wasn't the country built on christian foundation any ways? there is nothing wrong with praying no one is forcing you to take part you have the divine free will to not do so if you choose wrather it be religious or not prayer at such type events are usually for safety though there is the hard core fan who prays for wins.
