It's time to give some respect to the Dawgs of Cove. Two years in a row district Champs. Cove is usually very small in size and still seem to hold it's own. One thing Cove will always bring to the table is a well discipline team, well prepared and a much heart and pride. Yes, our district may not be that tough but we can play and beat any team in Texas on any given day. Don't Play us like we are some fly by night team. We play as a team not individuals.
Every year we field a respectable team. Watch how we will lost good players from this years team and still be respectable next year. Jack Welch and his staff have a very good program. Any kids coming in next year, the parents should think hard about were they kids should play football. Cove is the Place

Just out of curiosity, I sincerely don't know, but have you guys been in any state title games? I think most teams earn respect from people oustide their district by either having several past titles (ie Plano) or by consistently going deep in the playoffs (ie Smithson Valley). I know I had no clue who North Shore or Westfield was until recently when they went deep and NS won a title. At least from the perspective of someone outside your area a 10-0 record doesn't mean too much to me until its proven in the playoffs. Even El Paso schools have 10-0 records. Sorry I don't mean to take anything away from Cove that is awesome you guys went undefeated...but on a state-wide level you cant expect respect until you prove it on a larger scale.

Also in regards to your last statement I would hope parents would be responsible enough to "choose" their kid's school on academics not high-school football.

Noone's putting your program down or anything like that. But in this forum you gotta make some noise in the postseason on a consistent basis, that's all.

Lets just say that Judson thinks you have a good team, not a Championship team. I also think that you should send Rackley some candy for doing Cove a favor by not taking a safety at the end of the game or you could be 9-1.

You deserve respect from a team you beat 20-19, when they missed 2 PATs and 2 FGs?

Cove is a good team, and I think if they continue to play good they could take state, but don't go bragging on beating Judson by 1. That last play of the game did show they had a lot of disipline, because not many teams can keep it when down 6 late in the game.

Cove is capable of beating any team in the State...executes well on offense and has a very fast defense.

Yeah, it sucks that that was the game we had to have kicker problems. We now have Austin Quinney kicking for us. He has been a pretty reiliable kicker so far.

Good luck to Cove in the playoffs. I am picking them to win it all in D2

I've watched this team for 13 years and I can say the program's come a long way. We put out a competetive team and play hard and with class every time out. Having said that, in order to gain respect from around the state we have to go deep into the playoffs year in and year out and win a title. We have made the playoffs consistently for the last 7 years or so and now must go deeper than 2 games to be considered among the elite programs in the state. Can we do it? Absolutely. We have the coaching, the community support and the player base to do it. Are we there yet? Well, we'll find out beginning this week.

Best of luck to the Dawgs. I will be there Saturday with my cowbells.

Yes, I should have mention the academic piece because it goes without saying that is the most important piece. Folks in this area know Cove High is a classy school that put academics first.

Respect.....loaded word there

I'm a "old school" Cove grad (70's) and know what disrespect is, but respect has to be earned, Judson, SLC, Lufkin, Permian, Katy and others have the hardware in the show cases to prove where they earned their respect. I'm a blue and gold bleeding fan of my Dawgs, and yes since Jack Welch arrived Cove has gathered a certian amount of respect, being ranked in the top 10 all season proves that. But like some of you out there have stated, proof is in the pudding, where's the hardware....Cove has only gone 3 deep once, rest 2 and out and 1 and out....Cove is one of the better teams in the state, but still needs to makes some deep runs to be one of the GREAT teams in the state.......At least that's the way I see it...Central Texas knows about Cove, it is now time to prove it to the rest of Texas....one game at a time

I hope Klein Forest is ready, because I know the Dawgs will be

That's why I would love to see a Cove and Carter match-up....but we have too much business to take care to worry about Storming the Dawgs right now.

We have some Mustangs from Carrollton to round up in Mesquite.

Yea Cove has KF and then perhaps Leander second before a Carter matchup can be thought about. As far as this thread goes I think it's kind of funny. I mean I don't think they would be ranked #7 if they did not get respect as for more than that they will have to win, then the rest will take care of itself. Just my thoughts on it.

Yea, rankings are fun to look at and an honor to have but they can't win football games for ya.
