Southlake will win, the better question is how many sacks if any does Jackson Jeffcoat get against a usually stingy Carroll line?

Southlake by two touchdowns.

I think that this group for the Dragons comes out fierce and starving to put their stamp on this era.
Carroll - 35
Plano W - 0
As a side note I also predict the young Mr. Jeffcoat will not sniff KP. Between the performance of the line and all the energy he's gonna expend trying to corner the scatter bug that is Avers he'll be worn out.:D

Final score and other events still a little fuzzy, but I will suggest the defense for SL will control the outcome. I would be surprised if Plano can get more than a couple scores. You have to see the Burnett/Richards tag team to understand why I feel that way. And if you maneuver around that, those LB's are very active.
The baseball team scored 10 against us last June. I think they'll do the same.

Team 1 featured Garrett Simms and Lincoln Schick on Saturday. Both juniors, Lincoln is perfect down there, played LB last year at JV. They'll be pushed by jr Robbie Hallimann... not sure who else is in that battle, especially from a senior standpoint.

Don't forget the game afterward. Highland Park will have a strong showing since it is in their backyard.
I do not know how well Red Oak travels but is still a local game for them.

West does not have much fan support, so don't expect much of a showing from the fans. However, the Wolves are out to prove that they can win against top notch teams like SLC, so I expect a great game.

Let me give some other take-aways...
Padron to Popkin worked well
LB crew very active
Snaps crisp, in general
K Foster good on one, awful on another
K Foster is a linebacker
CB Rodgers secured a starting spot at Ford
Beasley at the other, I think
Good stuff, tonite!

Josh is a great example of how you can get better via JV your junior year, preparing for the next. He will be a deep threat and KP trusts him.
Also, a soph to be, Moser, turned some heads toward the end of the evening...at the inside slot postion, I think. He wore 87.

With the pre-season schedule completed, it is time to polish up the crystal ball, beginning with the zero week opener with the PW Wolves. Here's what you can expect to see next week...
* After a Dragon receiver clearly makes a clean catch, refs blow the call and rule the pass bounced in the turf first. SL Coach Larry Hughes, flashing back to a similar play in last summer's state baseball title game, goes ballistic and is immediately ejected from the game, completing a rare daily double.
* During the pre game discussion, officials and coaches agree to allow SL an extra time-out, as a result of Coach Wasson not using his full allottment in last years finale. ( ouch!)
* Highland Park HS fans are seen passing out flyers inviting others to come watch the Scots during the regular season, BYOS ... Bring your own Sushi
* June Jones observes the game from the sideline, virtually unnoticed without his lei
* Hal's angels come out smokin' grabbing an early lead and never look back, winning their opener 45-10. A late Jeffcoat fumble return for a TD the lone score for the Wolves ;), who nonetheless show promise for the upcoming season.
* The Chauncey Willingham era begins on a positive note.
* A couple of long time Dragon fans watch the game together, from the best seats in the house.
Good luck to both teams ! Let's have a great season...

First of all, two a days have you sharp like a master chefs favorite knife. Your in mid season form my friend so allow me the first :notworthy:notworthy:notworthy of this season. Second and highlighted, I know his title is interim but let's all give this man a sincere and reflective round of applause for his lifetime of service. Anything CISD has ever asked of him, he's done. He was my high school principal for three years before being reassigned because we brought in some high dollar doctorate. My senior class insisted on being presented our diplomas by Mr.Willingham. As an avid fisherman,we all gave him a fishing lure, and in my case a hug, as we wallked the stage. There is not a finer man walking the earth today. His committment to the kids of that community is unrivaled by anyone who has ever walked the halls of a Carroll campus. If we have a brain in our collective heads we would give him serious consideration for the job on a fulltime basis.

You're not the first person to think of that. Almost every team we played last year schemed to take him out and it almost never worked. However, when he is taken out, it usually opened things up for fellow defensive linemen Ameen Behbahani (second team all-district), who had a knack last year for making some really big plays (blocked kicks and punts, a clutch sacks and third down run stuffs). So if Jeffcoat is taken out, you'll probably be hearing his name alot.

I heard that it is relatively shaded on the home side, is that true? I've only been to Ford once and I wasn't really paying much attention to the stadium then.
At 4:30 in the afternoon, the press box on the west side stands ought to be casting a long shadow.

Most stadiums are N-S with the homeside on West side so the visitors are basking in the sun.
Good thing is only 5 more days before this games played.

It was kind of an "Aid in trash talk."
On a different note, it seems like we've been playing you guys alot as of late. I saw a couple Carroll ISD buses by the tennis court when I went to go make amends to my schedule.
I'm gunna stop the trash talking, I don't want to eat too much crow after the game if it goes the wrong way.
I think we're just having fun..seldom does it rise to the level of trash....Does anyone know who will be home team? I sure hope we are on the press box side...looking into the sun from the East Side of the stadium is going to be brutal.

Well I can certainly understand the excitement of the first college football games of the season; my guys play that day as well. But I will simply have to record it and go see the Dragons play. But I will decidedly look for you at the North Shore game and will have to get my DVR working on the college games again that day. Thanks for the prediction. I knew I could count on you to respond.
So who are the juniors? Avers, Barone, Weaver, Renger, Richards, Simms, Schick, Foster, Osbourne, Beazley, and Agnew are juniors I recognize from either last year or the various discussions on this board. Are there any others?
Some other questions:
1. Who do you think will be the #2 QB? It seems that there are three good juniors from what I've read on here.
2. Do you think we'll regularly play 5 or 6 WRs like we occasionally have in the past? If so, who do you think will be the first guys off the bench? A lot of receivers have been mentioned at various points as possible contributors (even one sophomore as I recall).
3. How's the backup RB? We've tended to be weak there in the past (although Avers was a pretty good #2 last year).
4. Josh Rake is the starting WR you're referring to, right? You think Matt will be a backup I take it?

ditto for me, I thought that our D pretty much took care of GV without even blitzing. We were pretty vanilla, but still drove. The only question marks to me were some missed passes deep which will right itself as they get into the season, and some dropped passes which also should right itself. Running game very productive as well.

I guess it is just our high standards....Grapevine, in our scrimmage looked like a team that could go out and get owned the next week, which they did. Carroll looked like a solid team working in a whole lot of new faces. There was far more positive in the scrimmage than negative, but it all starts for real this afternoon.

Sooooooo close. Excellent start for this group. Much, much more to come methinks.:D

42 did a lot more than just sniff Kyle. Jackson Jeffcoat is a monster. His strength and athletisism is outstanding, and his pursuit is unrelenting. Kyle missed his share of open WR's, and every Dragon should be thanking Josh and Tommy this evening. Both had spectacular performances.

It was a good game. Jeffcoat is an absolute monster, he has improved greatly from his sophomore season. It's scary to think how good he'll be next year. I was impressed with our defense for the most part. Our offense and Carroll's punter put them in bad positions at time, but they did fine.
On our offense... I think somebody should ask Mike Hughes to give up his power over play calling. The two plays we ran the most (Cohen up the middle and a QB draw / option) were probably the two least effective. I did not like the fact that we alternated between Travis Wilson and Michael Pruneau at QB, although Pruneau impressed me more as a passer. Wilson is a better runner, however, as he broke off a nice run in the 4th quarter. This ruined the chemistry with the receivers, as there were several over and under thrown passes, along with a few passes with no receivers in the area. Dropped balls and penalties were also a problem.
To conclude. I liked what I saw out of the defense, especially Jeffcoat and Ameen Behbahani. Secondary was plagued by weak tackling. The offense needs a ton of work. Pick one QB, the WRs need to catch better, as they had very good opportunities slip away when they couldn't catch. Also, Hughes needs to let the OC do his job and call the plays. I'm getting kind of frustrated with our uncreative QB Draws and runs up the middle.

Pick one QB, the WRs need to catch better, as they had very good opportunities slip away when they couldn't catch. Also, Hughes needs to let the OC do his job and call the plays. I'm getting kind of frustrated with our uncreative QB Draws and runs up the middle.
Good luck West...Good defensive effort! Jeffcoat was very good against the run, and got good pressure on Padron at times. Give the offense time to work it out & don't forget that defense is Carroll's strength at this time..you ran into a very good defense that will make a lot of offenses look shaky.

It may have been a good game by Plano West standards, but today was not a good performance by Southlake Carroll standards. Apart from the scoreline, that was a very untypical Southlake Carroll performance. Plano West will struggle this year, as will Southlake Carroll, unless Southlake Carroll can find some receivers who can actually hold onto the ball.

I never said Plano West played a good game. You need to read my post more thoroughly.

I'll repeat here what i stated onthe other thread tonight:
It is too early to tell how solid the Dragons will be this season. It has been quite a while since I recall Carroll playing a really strong opening game. It has almost become a tradition to have a slow start for the Dragons. Given the heat on the surface, today's performance was no exception. No criticism of either team intended here; just difficult to judge too much from an opening game played under very hot conditions.
I can also add that the line play looked solid for a first game on both sides of the ball; the linebackers played well and Carroll receivers do need to work on developing stickier hands. We have seen this before this afternoon, so it is no real secret. But I am also confident the Dragons will improve.

I think this was spot on, thank you very much
