Ok! Time to get it crunked up again! Week (0) is finally here!

Here's the games on tap for this week.

Cy Ridge / Humble - This should be a real good one!
Jersey Village / Deer Park - Tough game for JV to start with!
Cy Creek is OPEN
Cy Springs / Katy Taylor - Unlike previous years, this is the only District 15 team playing District 17 teams this preseason. I think Taylor wins this one.
Cy Fair / Woodlands - Will be a tough one for Fair right out of the gate. Should give them a good handle of where both teams are starting this year.
Langham Creek / Spring - Will let us know if Langham's qb and passing game are as good as their 7o7 showing.
Cy Falls / Bryan - Another season opener between these 2 teams. From watching the scrimmage on Friday, Falls better make some major improvements if they want to start with a win. I have faith in the coaches.
Cy Woods is OPEN. From reading some other posts about their scrimmage last week, I could not tell if they were playing hide the weeny about the outcome or not.:D

Projections? Comments? Want me to shut the hell up?

According to the Athlete's Pod Cast we scrimmaged a 17-5A playoff caliber
team in Seven Lakes. One of these same guys projected that Cy Woods
would not make the playoffs. Do you think they know who has the weeny?

All I can go on is what I interpret from yours and the Spartan's poster from the other thread.

7-L is kind of in the same boat as you guys. This is their first 5A varsity year also. They struggled in a VERY GOOD 4A district to end up 1-9 last year. They are the unknown in their district also. But, just based on my own opinion, I would bet on y'all making the playoffs this year rather than them.

I'm elated that we are once again about to pound the weekly gridiron!

Welcome to the 2008 season Booster2..and all in succession. I've been hanging a little under the football radar lately, but with the permitting of my schedule, hopefully more posts will be in order.

I have to admit, i'm not as informed on the newbies that have filled the empty lots in our newfound district "Fif-Teen".

A shame Cy-Woods is "Open" this first week of play. I was looking forward to making some comparisons with their emergence on the varsity scene. Guess we'll have to wait another week for an assessment.

I'm planning on making it out to the Ridge/Humble game though. This one has all the ingredients of a classic first rounder. Ridge is still young and learning on the sidelines as well as on the field, but Shepard has pretty much been given a lot of leeway to take advantage of situations as he sees them develope and that will be a huge plus for the Rams from the get go. As i've said before, I'm not that familiar with Humble other than the fact that they incorporate a lot of power & athleticism on the field. We'll see how well Ridge utilizes speed to their advantage against an undoubtedly larger Humble team.
No,.. i'm not about to say Humble is without speed. They surely are or wouldn't have kept up with BWB on the Bruins own turf.
Perhaps travelling to Berry for the first time will have a dfferent effect.
I'm going to go with Cy-Ridge in a three point victory at home.

I haven't heard of any changes for Cy-Springs this year, so even though they are better known for above average defense, i'm going to agree with your pick that Taylor will win their season opener.

Cy-Fair @ The Woodlands- Hmmm.. A lot of good things are stirring in the air about this years Woodlands team. From what i can gather, their defense is gaining credibility with each and every snap and appears to be their foundation this year. However, This guy (Lascko) in the backfield has really been turning heads of late and I foresee even more turning his way this year. Being the very gifted athlete he is, Lasco could turn out to be the Highlander version of McGuffie if things stay on track. Our defense is really going to have a handfull containing him.

Cy-Fair's offense is once again ready to rumble it's way across the field with their feature running back Morrice Lane. No, not any relation (that i know of)to the infamous "Javorski Lane" of Lufkin/Texas A&M who litterally busted through defenses in the past, but at 6' - 230 lbs, Morrice (Lane) certainly has the physical stature to do the kind of damage associated with the Panther/Aggie standout. Lane won't be alone in the backfield, Champagne (Jr.) and Green (Sr.) are significant threats that will probably be sharing time at tailback since Champagne will also try to fill the (FS) position. Hopefully TE Colby Goodwin will be given the chance to shine as a reciever as much as he has in the blocking role. This will be a good time to get the new QB oriented with a much needed passing game as 6'-6" Goodwin possesses some excellent receiving skills. I'm not going to knock The Woodlands for their efforts but in my opinion, Cy-Fair has the advantage in coaching where as The Woodlands has the advantage on the field.
Tough to make this call but i think The Woodlands field experience will prevail in the long run on this one.

Langham Crk-Spring - Another tough call for me since there are a lot of new guys coming in that i'm unfamiliar with. I do think however that Langham will be the more physical team out on the field.
My Pick, Langham Creek by 7

Cy-Falls vs. Bryan
Lordy.. these two play each other so tough it's getting to be like a cross country rivaly. In quick sumation, Bryan=BIG! Cy-Falls=Fast! Falls can stay ahead of these monsters if the offensive line is in Que and gives Colby Gray time to deliver the mail. What's new on the Golden Eagle production line? WR's & RB's with 6 speed overdrive? Gray will enjoy the game if they are as good of quality as last year..and i see no change in the Raffield blueprints.

As usual, a great post with good insight to the district.

Right now, I am not very confident of a 14 point win by Falls over Bryan. I am even a little leary of a close win. My impressions from last Friday's scrimmage.

1. Gray is spot on for this early in the year. He will only get better as the season progresses. He did try to force a few throws but learned from them.

2. Offensive line is big this year and seemed to do a pretty good job for this early in the season. They should be a strong point for the team as they continue to develope and learn.

3. Christian Norris (RB) is big and has speed. He is not as explosive as Turner was last year, but, not many are. Norris reminds me of a Dean from Katy, but, he has some learning to do. He needs to hit the hole with conviction and use his size to deliver a punch when he gets hit.

4. WR's are not what we have been accustomed to the past few years. I did not see the size, speed or effort in fighting for the balls, expecially compared to last year's receiving corp. For Gray's sake, I hope they come around with a little more experience.

5. DL is much bigger this year with decent speed. They should be difficult to handle as they gain experience.

6. LB's are farly solid but seemed a step or two behind the KO backs. KO is built on speed of course and have some very talented backs with very good size.

7. DB's may be the weak link, literally. They were continuosly not able to bring down the KO runners, including their qb. However, he was a BIG qb. He will be a big asset for KO this year. The Falls' DB's seemed small to me, but I could be wrong.

All summed up, Falls has some work to do this season. However, knowing the coaches out there, the team will make the neccassary advancements.

I hope we (Falls) finally beat Bryan! That'd be nice to see.

On another note, I'm friends with a couple guys on the team and when I was up at the school two weeks ago, another friend and myself were in the athletics hall and ran into a couple of guys... they said their goal for now is to "go undefeated in non-district." I'm not so sure considering the teams Falls faces, but it's great to see the guys have high expectations.

My memory is fuzzy, but I think Falls beat Bryan in '05 in a tough game. '06 was a "forgettable" loss. Should have never happened. '07 was bad timing on Gray's injury. Backup qb did not have the reps or experience to be thrown into that situation. I would like to get them this year, like yourself.

I am encouraged to hear that about the players' attitude! That is how it is done! Throw down a short term challenge for yourself and then work to make it happen. From there, you just keep improving. Then work on the next short term challenge. Just stay focued on improving for THIS week's game.

Good luck to the Eagles this year!

Falls has (5) on the "watch list" in DB's & WR's alone. Three are Juniors so they have some time yet to learn. Not bad really.. They wouldn't have their names mentioned unless they've shown some promise in their ability.

Lucas is just a Soph so by the time he gets a few games in he'll fit in.

Were Williams, and Gilmore on varsity last year?

Williams and Gilmore were both on varsity last year. Williams got more time I believe and is the furthest along of the bunch in my opinion. He looks good for this early in the season. It always take a few games to get the routes worked out with the recivers.

I am sure that with time the coaches will get these guys where they need to be to accomplish all that they can. I know it was just the first scrimmage of the year and I am sure it gave them some good film to study and learn.

okay, time for my .02!!:D Bet I'll give you .25 though;)

I am so glad to hear about the players attitudes about going undefeated in non-district. However, that is a very tough road with Bryan, Westfield and Northshore looking us in the face. I think if they are very competitive against all three, they have been successful. Here goes my preseason speech again. Preseason is a time to work out the kinks and get the flow going...get the schemes down pat before the district season starts. I love for the Eagles to win - LOVE IT. But, if I had to pick between a loss at Bryan and a win at Ridge, I'd take the latter.

Bryan is up first and they are always tough - they have the Eagles number most years. My dad used to call them those "corn-fed country boys" when we played teams like Conroe, Cy Fair and Katy back in the day. Well, that's how I see Bryan because they are always huge and they play us like we are in a playoff game. It's always a battle.

Westfield is second - we beat them for the first time last year after losing big several times. They were still grieving over the loss of their teammate just days before so that could have played into it but it was still a big win. I think that monkey is off the Eagles back now. It will be a tough game as usual but I don't count the Eagles out of this one at all...especially with the first game out of the way.

Northshore - man, I don't know if I want to go there!! I feel like we are going up against the University of Texas or something! That's our Homecoming so I hope they don't get the Homecoming letdown - we've lost many of those HC games over the years for some reason...it's the reason I can't stand Homecoming!! Just tell everyone to come watch the game - enough of the stupid pageantry! That would be a HUGE win to go into district play.

About district play, I think that Woods is the wildcard since we really only can go by their JV play, which was great...but this is the big time so we'll see. That's our last game of the reg season too so it will be a fired up crowd for both sides. Ridge - this will be our toughest game and the toughest for the entire district...wouldn't be surprised to see them go 10-0 but I would like to see 9-1 with us being the ONE...just as we are with Katy! Cy Fair is always an emotional game for us either way - even back when neither team was much to brag about. Other than those (which I believe we will win!), I think we take the rest but in our district there are always surprises.

In my dreams, however, we go 16-0:D.

Williams played for part of the season and he was EXCITING to watch when he did! I'm so glad to hear he's back. Gilmore had some pretty good catches last year but he was competing with that phenomenal receiving corps we had so he didn't get as many as he will this year.

Since we did not have a spring game, we will be having a second scrimmage this year. We will scrimmage Westfield this Thursday at CyWoods at 7:00pm. We will finally get a game with a 5A varsity team the next Saturday 9/6 at the Berry Center at 6:00 pm with AMC. I think our fans will pack our side of the stadium at that one with high anticipation and expectations for the Wildcats. We will see. The scrimmage this Thursday with Westfield should be a great learning for our first year varsity team. Hope everyone has an injury free 0 week game.

I already know that I won't have much of a voice come Saturday. I hope to catch some other cy school games this season. I know that I will see Cy Creek so I can watch Brent Mitchum, Jr TE. Well, How did the boys look? I know the sandwich was good.

I know practice is just that...practice. I didn't get to see a whole lot to be honest. The JV team was doing drills right along with the Varsity so the squads were quite large. Lot's of guys standing in line to do drills and not a whole lot of hands on time. Twice or so through each is not enough really. They need more like ten reps per drill. Couldn't tell if they had a few coaches missing or what but i thought that to be a little unusual. Maybe i just never paid much attention to it before.

Saw a couple of passing plays that i haven't seen in the past. Hmmm.. (Thought clouds floating..which gave me a BBQ filled smile!) :D

QB's were working on their accuracy & arm strength. Perfectly thrown about 90% of the time. (Again.. practice is one thing. We'll see what's delivered on the field). They looked good though. Each one following through on fakes very nicely. Like a matador preparing for the ring..

The offensive line looked to be pretty large again.. Height wise as well as width,..and they move very well. That's a relief

Didn't see Lane anywhere though, or the other RB's for that matter.

The DB's appeared to be getting the most hands on today. Maybe Wednesday is DB day? Some of them have put on some much needed weight. They look good.

I don't know if they're ready.. but i sure am! :D

Williams and Henry of Cypress Falls are both kicked off the team for attempted robbery. Very Embarrassing, god bless.

A bobcat win will be difficult this week from all the hype I have heard. BUT! I also know first hand about BFND!;)

I'm thinking The Woodlands are much farther along than we are at this point. Much more experienced on the field on both sides of the ball. Our coaches will have to find a way to negate that factor to even it up a bit..especially against The Woodlands defense.

I believe we can hang though if we become creative, do the unexpected, and above all keep focussed & execute. The Cats will bring a good fight though.. no doubt about that. I think it'll be worth watching.. ;)

Sounds like a tough day at the office.. I hope you make it but don't
look for us to show anything. We should get our a$$ handed to us.
I look forward to meeting you if possible? You might see some talent thou.

Hey, C-DUB. Sorry I didn't make it out last night. My back spasmed on about the about the 6th green yesterday morning and just kept getting worse all day. After the afternoon meeting, I just went home for some narcotics.

How did the scrimmage go?

Take a little off the back swing TW.:D The scrimmage play was rough. So
when you guys play be sure and wear your cup. We spent a lot of time
learning the ropes of 5A Football. Really we did about what I expected.

# 80 made some big hits last night. I was pretty happy with the performance of the offense and defensive starters. We definitely got a welcome to 5A varsity football last night.;)

The funny thing is, I was just walking down a slight incline to a green. It hit me and put me on my knees immediately. I almost had to have a beer to get up off the ground and finish the round!:D

Westfield can teach anyone a few things, can't they? Fast and physical. We have had fits with them every year since Meeks got there. We beat them second round of the playoffs in '02 I think. In '04 and '05 we played them twice each year (nondistrict and then them knocking us out of the playoffs) and then nondistrict '06 & '07 only, because we were moved over to R3. Last year was a real shoot-out. 47-45, but we finally got them. They might be a little pissed about that this year. Coach Raffield likes to have them on the non-district schedule each year to see how the team stacks up against the best.

What in the world happened to the Bobcats?

Talk about a spanking! Down 6-0 at halftime and come back and give up 38 points in the second half?? Lordy!!
