Dallas Carter has some big players on both sides of the ball. Their backs have good speed and good moves. On the first series of the 1st string offense for Carter, the QB had open receivers and made some good passes down field. Since Carter has gone down to 4A, they'll make some noise in the playoffs.
As I've said before, Trinity can't throw, much less have a receiver that can catch a ball. The RB's are slow behind an offensive line that can't block. The defense looked like they were hesitate to hit anyone and they were slow to the ball, too. The FG kicker couldn't hit a barn much less put the ball through the goal posts. It's going to be a long year for Trinity fans.

Wow and I thought that many were severely overrating my LP Panthers. Isn't Trinity #1 in state and #1 in some national polls. I am sure you have to be exaggerating a little right?

I showed up late and really didnt get to see any of the first teamers, I was hoping to see the live game portion but I guess with the rain delay they decided it was too late to start.
What I did see was good though, the second teamers have some speed and looked pretty good.
Carter is some kind of fast too.
Scrimmages dont mean a hill of beans though, I am quite positive Coach Lineweaver will have the Trojans more than prepared for JC and ready to play next Monday. I just hope I'm ready to tolerate that heat

When I saw them play last year, I thought if the Carter QB uses the FB and RB more when they run the option he would be one of the most dangerous players in the state.

I didn't even know I was going to go until I got home from Chilis and was bored so I called the Bigfoot family and they were at Penington. Nice to be able to get there in less than 5 mins, so I decided to go.

They have one of the best concession stands in any high school stadium that I've seen. They open early, have plenty of food, people to serve you, and it's right behind the seats.
Except for the loss of sideline vision, I've always liked the Gopher/Warrior Bowl. I've even figured out where to park there so we can get in and out easy.

Yeah, when we went two years ago we just parked in a neighborhood and walked to the stadium. Got out of there in no time, of course its not like we had a huge crowd to deal with.

4A will be very competitive this year. lots of tough previous 4A teams and 5A move downs.
Carter is huge, lots bigger than ET in the OL ( Not as Mobile as ET as ET had some 300 lb'ers 30 yards down field on running plays) but solid , but it will be interesting to see how teams can deal with Carters size.

Judson rarely has huge OL, but they are always tough, quick and aggressive. Kids that play video games and eat all summer are all along the lines in the urban districts, and usually start because of lack of comp/depth.

a few years ago carter had huge lines but the weren't as muscular or mobile as the current team, these guys may be able to wear you down.
in the past few years smaller opposing teams have played ET's big front lines very well for a quarter or half, but when the adreniline wears off then the opposition tires out.

I will state up front that I am not an expert on football. Just a long-time fan....so my views of last night's scrimmage are from that perspective.
I came away from the Trinity/Carter scrimmage feeling much as I did following the previous years' scrimmages against Carter, Midland, Coppell, etc....which is to say that we see very little of what the "real" Trinity team is going to look like. The starters get very few snaps and the 2's and 3's get most of the time on the field. Play selection is limited a handful of basic plays and the defense always seems to be playing very much under control vs. the usual flying around to the ball that we see during the games.
That being said, here's what I saw last night: On the few carries he had, Tray looked really good and appears to be fully recovered from last year's injuries. He also looks bigger. McGhee looked bigger as well and more confident and comfortable back there. He made a couple of very heady throws under pressure; plays that he might have rushed last year. And, our kicking game appears to be in very good hands. Where did this kid come from? It's been a long time since Trinity had a punter who could boom it like that.
I was really impressed with the backup QB and the collection of backs that played when Tray was not out there. There is some serious speed waiting in the wings.
I thought the defense looked good in limiting Carter to only one score (I think) but as I said earlier, they didn't appear to be playing with the same intensity that we will see during games.
As for Carter.....as has been stated earlier, they have some real talent, size and speed out there. That O line was huge. Depth is going to be an issue as they only suited up 35 last night. Their starting tailback (#3 - big, fast) also played defense and that is probably not good. I believe that their starting quarterback also played both ways.
I know there is come concern over all the new faces on the O line. I'm not an astute enough observer to know if they are good or not at this point. I will say that I saw the same effort we are used to from the Hawgs......big kids still going after it 30 yards downfield. That is encouraging.
So, that is my observation of the scrimmage. From a fan's perspective, sure...we'd like to see the starters line up in a game situation and go for a couple of quarters so that we can see what they have. But, it was a typical Lineweaver type of scrimmage: very controlled, pull the starters out quickly and look at what the "alternate starters" can do. I think he knows what he's doing.......

#3 is one of Carter's back up RB's. #1 Anthony Miller is our starting RB. Anthony also plays LB on the D side of the ball. He is highly recruited on both sides too, but was limited in his main roll yesterday as RB. #2 Jarvis Phillips is our starting QB, and he hardly ever plays both sides of the ball. They'll use him on crucial 3rd or 4th down plays as a CB or Safety on D. They experimented a bit in different packages with evryone.
My take on the scrimmage was that Carter did what they were supposed to do, and they impressed me with their starting D. I won't put any stock into the results (Scrimmage), because I've seen Trinity for some years now, and I know what they are capable of. I wish Trinity the best of luck, and I want them too finish the year as number 1 team in the nation. I had a lot of fun with the Trinity Fans as well!

This Carter team looked much better balanced then last year's team. More size on the line. I think depth will be a problem on their line.
One noticeable and positive change I saw was in Carter's coaching. The Coaches were more constructive and positive. Much different than the spastic jumping up and down yelling in the player's face approach. I think this really made a difference in the positive.
As far as Euless Trinity: I think an area that needs to be worked on is Tackling. I thought our tackling was not as good as in the past, and this is something we're kind of known for. It seemed our Oline and Dline still has great stamina! I noticed our guys still had gas in the tank, and Carter's lines were wearing down. Man, can Denarius McGhee work under pressure or what!!! I thought he was better under pressure. Running back and Receiver depth is great! Amazing how tall some of our guys have gotten over the summer! I was actually worried about our size; not so much (In a Borat accent.) I am just overall impressed with our depth. I don't think we will notice a dropoff at any position in case of injury. I'm sure the missed blocking assignments on offense, and defense blown coverage will be addressed in practice.

I'll bet Lineweaver didn't really want to show our best stuff with the John Curtis scouts in the press box. That doesn't in any way make me think less of the talent that I saw from Carter. I really thought the RB's were top notch, especially with the effort they gave. I felt like Carter gave a performance worthy of the admission.
It's a dose of what we will see all year having the tag of #1. It will be a feather in the cap for any team that can slay the "Dragon"! Sorry, I couldn't resist! If Trinity doesn't put someone away, they might have that little extra motivation & adrenaline to get the win. Perhaps, coach Lineweaver knows this and why he didn't want the tag of #1. I know he doesn't like to humiliate any team but if you leave them with hope, they will take advantage.

Oh, and I've been hearing that Lancaster's entire secondary are D-1 prospects, including 2 or 3 back ups. I know that the Tigers always have the talent, but for years, they were stuck in the same district with Corsicana, Ennis, Waxahachie, and Wilmer-Hutchins back in the day.

Gotcha! I'll be there to check out the "Oak Cliff" Cowboys.
Any truth to the Tigers secondary being that good?
That is true about the 4 d1 dbs. remember lancaster won state in track this spring?? they have a lot of speed over there!!
Remember this, Carter don't pass a lot anyway!!!!! I hope they tackle well!!

I have been a C-Cowboy fan for years, but this year after the drop, I will be watching two other schools that dropped also. Rockwall and Longview. Like to see those three in some PO match ups

Carter could see Rockwall in the 2nd round. It could be either Rockwall or Highland Park.
Longview possibly in the 3rd. If Rockwall or HP don't send us home!!
