Sv plays in one of the hardest districts in the state.

SV 29
Sm 15

If they were playing at Sv it would be by at least 21 points.

San Marcos has a great defense this year. They have speed on offense. This is the year they will get past the first round. Go Rattlers.

i think this will be a very close game...both teams have excellent defenses and two different types of offense...whoever wins this game depends on how many mistakes they make...smithson valley is a very well coached and disciplined
team..ive always enjoyed going to see them play and we respect them very much, but we are not intimidated by them...but with san marcos getting them at home this year i think this is the year the rattlers finally crack one on them...san marcos 20, smithson valley 17...good luck to both teams and GO RATTLERS!!!! :)

SV has the playoff experience.
SV has the better coach.
SV plays in a better district and has a better record.
SM is at home, but SV doesn't have to travel far.

Give my SV by at least 10 points.

I feel that SV is the better team but I would never count SM out of any game. They are well coached and have a good defense. Where they give teams the most problems is the offense they run.. It is so hard to find the ball and since very few teams run this offense you are not familiar with it and it must be hard to practice for. Also I think SM had a week off to get healthy and add in some new wrinkles. If they can hang with SV they have a good chance to win, if the get behind SV will control the game.

I will be cheering for SM.

If SM eliminates the mistakes they made against SC (TOs and special team mistakes) and can take an early lead, they will beat SV! Once SM has a lead, they can use that great ball control offense to it's full potential!

SM 28 - SV 24

GO 25-5A!

It might hurt you to, there is a lot of ball exchange in the last formations that you guys played in. Are they still using the wing T? Options, mis-directions, etc.?

You're kidding me if anyone puts any faith in a 7-day weather forecast

SM still uses the slot-T (basically wing-t but with a wingback instead of full-T backfield). I suspect SM may get at least one big play on SV defense, but I would be very suprised if they have all-day success. SV defense has given up some big yards to rushing QBs, this year.

SV is undefeated against SM, going back to 4a when they were district rivals to when they met in 4a and 5a playoffs. Historically, the problem has been SM's inability to stop SV offense, and SV's superior special teams play. So, I think the key matchup will be how well SV offense performs. The execution has improved over the past couple weeks.

Hill is looking very good, not only passing, but also on the scramble. The big O, is working its way back into SV, which always happens right about this time of year. Should be a very good game. And yes, slot T. It gets confusing, most people dont know what a wingback is anymore. Good job on your part, you must be in at least your mid 20's or your dad played wingback.

I've watched Blanco (2A) run the slot-T for years. It's very entertaining. As with all option/misdirection, usually comes down to stopping the fullback dive. SV has done a good job against rush-oriented teams. A lot of the defensive players that had to "cram" for the wishbone against Clear Lake last year are on this year's squad as well. Same discipline is required.

I'll just say that I'm older than mid-20s ;)

I figured you were, I call our "versitile" FB wingback in practice, and he looks at me like I am thinking he is another player. Then he is what in the hell is a wingback? :D These kids nowdays.. Anyway, this game should come down to the play of the linebackers. They are going to have to have a solid game to stop it. Volz has stepped up, and Kovar, well he's just Kovar! Both played against it in the past, and hopefully they can hold them again to less points than SV can put up. If SV ever gets a decent lead, it might be over. They can run the clock out with the 3-4 yard carries and not have to worry about the slot T as much. It should be a fun game to watch no matter what, and either way, SV has had another good year.

Madison ran a split t type of offense, and had alot of misdirection. And had some success with it,for awile, till the adjustments at halftime .And,pretty much shut it down.San Marcos has run that for awile.it`s a little frustrating but we have stopped it the the past.SM got off a long run last year in it for a TD.They`ll prolly get another, but as long as we limit it,and the offense, pulls out the air show,to open up the run, there we go.

There will be 5 recievers to cover on almost every play, especially with Shrock back.

Hill is a GREAT coach but if he doesn't make the adjustments before the half and SM gets out to a decent lead, SV will be in trouble! As for a 20 point win for SV, they will have to play their best game of the year to do that! I beleive it will be much closer playing at Bobcat Stadium and SM has 12,000 fans to feed off of. The only way that SV wins by 20 is if they jump on SM right off the bat and take their fans out of the game.

OldSCfan, they are always ready for a game with the Rangers, how could they not be? We've had some really fantastic playoff games and although the Rangers have scoreboard the Rattlers have given them some of their best competition on their trips to the state finals.

These teams know each other well enough that I doubt there are any really big surprises for either team to pull on the other, although I'm sure both sides have some plays in their back pockets they may not have used so far.

I expect another great game this year. The Rattlers were a really young team last year and the year of experience has made a big difference, IMO. We've never had the pleasure of hosting the Rangers in the playoffs before and I think our crowd can also make a big difference. The only other time we've been the home team against them in the playoffs was in 2000, probably the best game in the series. SV won that one by 8 points. Hopefully home field is worth 9 points this year!

Good luck to the Buffs and the Mats. I remember all the grief the 25 got on here 2 years ago about the weak district, etc. Its like deja vu this year, except Clemens was on the other side that year. :D Here's to a similar, or better, result this year!

SV fans, look at the impressive number that SM has. Tops in the area in rushing which usually gives SV trouble and SM's defense is pretty stout, especially the rushing defense. Unless, SV comes up with a solution to stop the unusual (today) offense, it could be a long trip back to Ranger land.

SM has much the same identity as Clemens: overwhelmingly rush-oriented with solid defense. SV's advantage is they have a balanced offense. SV can air it out if the rushing game boggs down.

SM is a good solid program, with much success 4A and 5A over the past 6 years. Nothing is a given, but SV has had their number.

You're exactly right on the offenses! I know for a fact that SC has the potential right now to open it up, whether we see it in the playoffs or not, who knows!

SV / SM game should be a really fantastic game! It's high time for SM to get SV's #! This will not be an easy thing to do, but SM can do it this year.

I agree. Hill always finds a way to win a game. It comes down to the players execution in the end with SV. Look at the past 4 years. The only playoff game, excluding the state finals, was lost due to player errors, not coaching.
