You can definitely hear the Rubin influence. A much "simpler" sound that sound more natural than Rock's contrived sound on St. Anger. The opening reminded me a lot of "Unforgiven" and half way through a little bit of "One" could be heard so this isn't thier most original work, but not horrible. 3/5 stars

Hetfield lost his voice somewhere. The Black Album was the last album in which I was happy with his vocals. He has lost his aggression and those throaty vocals that made their first 5 albums. Lars has lost something to, but that too has been evident on their past couple albums. He needs a new snare for one. Overall, a pretty mediocre sampling and since I have really been looking forward to this album, I hope this song is not indicative of the whole album.

I don't think that can be a final mix, so I will reserve judgment. It sounded too "trashy" to be a final cut.

On top of those quick observations, this is actually supposed to be the most downbeat song on the entire album.

Bob Rock killed James' aggression when he led the band down the path of the blues/groove sound. This started on Black and came to full view with the Loads. Although there are song on the Loads that I actually like (Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, King Nothing).

I like the bass work on Cyanide and the song as a whole has promise, but the vocals still don't sound Metallica.
