So last night I couldn't sleep at wrote this at 3:30am, I have no idea why I wrote it but its been on my mind for the past couple weeks. Let me know what yall think.

What is sport? It is defined as, “an athletic activity requiring skill or physical powers and often of a competitive nature; diversion; recreation; pleasant pastime.” Sure sports are all of these, but it has to be something more, something larger than itself or possibly, ourselves?
Sport has created relationships. Not just that of a husband and wife, but something that the seed of that relationship plants. The bond between a father and son, mother and daughter. Sure sport has separated families, but it has brought together far more. Is there anything outside of religion that has brought together more families? I don’t think so. But it doesn’t just stop there. It has brought groups of people together from all walks of life. Where else could a successful business man, with more money to spend carry a conversation with that guy who lives pay check to pay check struggling to put food on the table for his family? That is sport.
Sport is putting our disagreements behind us for just two weeks every four years. During those fourteen days we as a world can unite together to share something we all love. True there are rivalries, but those rivalries are born upon our defying love for our nation, our state, our school, our team and our community. That is sport.
I want to go into a deeper meaning to understand, just what exactly is sport? And how is it that it captures us within itself?

So, what is sport?
Sport is the first time a father teaches his son how to throw a ball.
Sport is that young lady, realizing she can play with the boys.
Sport is that first time you score a basket, a touchdown, or get that first hit.

Certainly these are just a few things of what sport is to us. Sport is not just a competition, sport is you and I. Sport is those before us who taught us how to be a humble winner and a gracious loser. Sport is not one place, it is all around us. It is sport itself, which lives inside of us. That is sport.
