I will attempt to anwswer the question in the different ways that I saw Wide.

When I first started reading the board, I saw Wide's name all over in seemingly every thread. While he would be the first to admit that others knew more on certain subjects than he did, Wide would contribute his experience/ knowledge on just about any topic. Wide is a smart guy that has done/ seen alot in many different fields. That is one thing he did more than a lot of posters, and that is sharing his life experiences in a real way on the board.

I don't think general knowledge even scratched the surface of what makes Wide the character he is. Wide has guts. Cajones. Shuzpa. Whatever you want to call it, Widey had plenty of it, and did not tolerate those that did not very well.:D Wide could be very intimidating because of this. Some people never got past this and it simply led to resentment. I, on the other hand, saw another poster that would challenge things and keep it real. Those are the things I miss about Wide's posts.

Once Wide knew you had some backbone of your own, he would actually kick it up a notch and engage people in verbal warfare. This is what I liked the most about discussing things with him. I always saw it as fun and entertaining. Some people thought it was personal. I never saw Wide as being mean or rude or hateful. People would just get to a point where he had won the discussion but they didn't want to admit defeat. Wide showed no mercy in these situations. I found them quite amusing.

Wide's sense of humor is one of the best I have ever encountered on any message board, whether it was Twelf Man or Beaux Geezy or just plain ole Wide, he had enough different characters to run his own SNL Show. Yes, Aggy and others were the butts of his jokes. So what. It was damn funny! If I wanted a dead serious research forum, I could elsewhere on the web to find objective material. If I wanted to think and/ or argue, I could always count on Wide.

IMO, and I have talked to Wide many times about this, his biggest p[roblem was remembering that the board is not a democracy and that the mods( dictators- benevolent as they may be) ultimately were the only ones that could vote in the management of the board. he often painted the mods into a corner where they had no choice but to ban Wide. I have always wished he could restrain himself well enough to make his point without breaking the rules. wide could not do that, so the admins had to make a choice. A couple times per year, some of us start making overtures about reinstatement. I do not think it will ever happen. It is simply Wide's actions that forced the decision. Some people are glad he is gone. i say our discussions are a smidgeon more shallow without Wideyman, as well as some extra grins being absent while reading the board.

Wide talking baseball with farmer was golden.
Wide and JTK crushing someone and then turning on each other was a rare treat.
Wide and Firebird's tussles always left me wishing for the language filter to peter out...
Wide's comments about his family always added something to the conversation as well. He is big on his family, while we always ended up talking about his dad or his kids, I always appreciated his candor in talking about tough topics related to them.

IMO, Wide was agood guy that brought a lot of things to the table when it came to talking about stuff on the board. Unfortunately, some of that was baggage that had to be dealt with. The board is different now. I know things change, but for those of us that can handle different personalities, Wide was truly a giant contributor on the board.

Wide and JTK are/were flat out entertaining. Those were by far some of the funniest post ever contributed from both.

BTW, I brought out the OU hat story. That is the first time I stood up to Wide when I started on the board.

I posted a thread entitled "All Heil Mack" deriding Mack Brown's coaching ability and the gestappo treatment of those of us that didn't drink at the burnt orange trough of life.

After duking it out with Wide, JTK, and several other horns fans it was only Wide, JTK, and I posting and we starting talking about honesty and putting your money where your mouth was( supporting your team.) Then out of nowher comes this alcohol induced confession that some of Wide's navy buddies took a picture of him in an OU cap following a RRS in which OU had prevailed. JTK disavowed any friendship of Wide at that point. It was hillarious.

Whatever you want to call it, Widey had plenty of it, and did not tolerate those that did not very well.:D Wide could be very intimidating because of this. Some people never got past this and it simply led to resentment. I, on the other hand, saw another poster that would challenge things and keep it real. Those are the things I miss about Wide's posts.

Once Wide knew you had some backbone of your own, he would actually kick it up a notch and engage people in verbal warfare. This is what I liked the most about discussing things with him. I always saw it as fun and entertaining. Some people thought it was personal. I never saw Wide as being mean or rude or hateful. People would just get to a point where he had won the discussion but they didn't want to admit defeat. Wide showed no mercy in these situations. I found them quite amusing.

Wide's sense of humor is one of the best I have ever encountered on any message board, whether it was Twelf Man or Beaux Geezy or just plain ole Wide, he had enough different characters to run his own SNL Show. Yes, Aggy and others were the butts of his jokes. So what. It was damn funny! If I wanted a dead serious research forum, I could elsewhere on the web to find objective material. If I wanted to think and/ or argue, I could always count on Wide.

IMO, and I have talked to Wide many times about this, his biggest p[roblem was remembering that the board is not a democracy and that the mods( dictators- benevolent as they may be) ultimately were the only ones that could vote in the management of the board. he often painted the mods into a corner where they had no choice but to ban Wide. I have always wished he could restrain himself well enough to make his point without breaking the rules. wide could not do that, so the admins had to make a choice. A couple times per year, some of us start making overtures about reinstatement. I do not think it will ever happen. It is simply Wide's actions that forced the decision. Some people are glad he is gone. i say our discussions are a smidgeon more shallow without Wideyman, as well as some extra grins being absent while reading the board.

Wide talking baseball with farmer was golden.
Wide and JTK crushing someone and then turning on each other was a rare treat.
Wide and Firebird's tussles always left me wishing for the language filter to peter out...
Wide's comments about his family always added something to the conversation as well. He is big on his family, while we always ended up talking about his dad or his kids, I always appreciated his candor in talking about tough topics related to them.

IMO, Wide was agood guy that brought a lot of things to the table when it came to talking about stuff on the board. Unfortunately, some of that was baggage that had to be dealt with. The board is different now. I know things change, but for those of us that can handle different personalities, Wide was truly a giant contributor on the board.

Nice post Slorch. Wide aka SLIM, is certainly everything you stated. I can only add that when you earned your stripe with SLIM, he was a guy that always had your back. You knew where you stood with him. A quick draw on the BS flag though, he cut through the gristle and got to the bone quick. Yea he got enthusiastic a time or five, but the man has a heart the size of TEXAS. For me personally, I'll take enthusiasm and loyalty over mild mannered milk toast every time. Wide, Slim, Beaux, whatever YOU call him.......... I call him FRIEND.

Skatha took him down too during basketball season. Bet that Texas would sweep the Ags back in 07 right before the game in College Station. I had warned him not to make that bet but he did.
Sakatha didnt make him live up to the football season portion which was he couldnt post until football. Saktha took a lot of heat from people and actually let Wide come back the next day or something. Saktha shouldnt have taken the rubbin we gave him but he was a great sport about it.
Wide came back and gave Sakatha props and quit harassing him about aggy after that.

I've been on here since KT first started. I was one of the very first board members. This is the BEST high school football board in the State(probably nation) and to sit here and say it sucks because wide isn't here is kinda like showing disrespect to the KTs for all their hardwork on this site.

Bottomline is that the rivalrous banter and challenging conversations are less common without Wide. the laughter is less too, that is why I hate Wide for making us all lose out.;)

IMO, some of that was needed as BS repellent. People get too froogy today with some crazy takes, and then cry when everyone tells them they're wrong. That, IMO, is more cumbersome than any of Wide's rants.
