OK let’s start the Pflugerville – Westlake thread. I don’t have access to the team stats so I am going to have to go with my gut instincts here. Pflugerville is a good team, but they seem down some what from the team that dominated Westlake last year. Westlake controlled the Hays running back pretty good last night, let’s hope they can do as well next week. I believe Minor will be back next week and who knows Dornack was in uniform last night, but I suspect they will wait a little longer to get him in. Adams the D1 Tight End in was out last night, I don’t know his status. Westlake had a fumble and 2 interceptions last night, they need to reduce the turnovers against Pflugerville and if they have their ground game back they should be very tough. The coaches have to solve the problem of not playing four quarters of WL football. They can not keep coming back as the competition gets tougher into the playoffs. I think WL wins by 10.

i think in this one, it depends on who wants it more. westlake and p-ville both have a good team...i think if the both go in, not underestimating eachother, it'll be a great game to see, and maybe one of those whoever has the ball last situations. on the other hand, if one goes to that game cocky and just not ready, they'll lose. im not very good at predicting game scores, but i'll bet westlake wins, sorry p-ville :(

I agree. I think these are two teams going in opposite directions.

I said earlier this year that player for player Pflugerville is as talented as anybody across the board but a good team beats them.

Some interesting statistics (from the Austin Statesman)
Quarterback performance
WL Foles is 98 for 173 attempts for 2058 yards
P’ville Beatty is 64 for 141 attempts for 1255 yards
Top rushers for each team
P’ville Cobb is has 160 rushes for 1327 yards = 8.3 yards/carry
WL Minor is has 147 carries for 1022 yards = 6.9 yards/carry (he has not played the past 2 games)
Top receivers
WL Jobe 39 receptions for 887 yards
P’ville Calvert 25 receptions for 453 yards
If WL can break out and get ahead early and not get conservative in their play calling, they should be able to control the game (ask AMC) however, if they don’t play a strong first half, the game is decided in the 4th quarter. I still like Westlake, especially if Minor is back near 100%.

I know Westlake is a good team this year and I have know idea how this will turn out it sounded like Hays was up on them and Westlake came back, but I know P-Ville will be back and ready for this one, Perkins (WR) for Pflugerville is really coming out so Pflugerville has another threat and also I believe P-Ville will come out strong after a lackluster effort against McNeil (who still played great). All in all it should be a good game to watch, but I have P-Ville by 7, but I'm biased

If PV does not turn the ball over they should win a close game. I saw them play Judson and I thought tthey were one of the best teams that Judson played all year. I can not speak for SV, but feel they would also say that turnovers killed this team early.

Pflugerville has been very turnover prone this year and that's the key to this game for me. If the Panthers play a clean game, I beleive they can win for sure. However, I'm in the Westlake camp this week after that comeback over Hays. That just launched them into this thing and I believe they will ride the momentum.

Let's hope you're right. This is definitely a different team than the one that Westlake had last year. The Srs. on last year's squad were satisfied with their district championship and did not really believe they could play with P'ville. This year's team has a Sr. class that does not look to want to go out like that. The way they fought against Hays sure did prove a lot to me about the way that they will play against powerful opponents.
Foles really had his worst game (believe it or not), but came through when it counted and I think he learned a lot in the first three quarters of the game that will help him in the playoffs. He may be the key, especially if the Chaps RBs cannot get healthy.

Mistake free football from PF, and they can beat just about anyone. So no turnovers by PF = PF win, otherwise its Westlakes. Either way is fine for me, I like them both.

After both teams performance last week, i'll go with Westlake. Not because of Pvilles loss, because McNeil is a very good team when they put it together, but because of how Westlake came back. I think they will make some noise this year in the playoffs.

What was the biggest reason Pflugerville struggled with McNeil? Did they rest anyone, or have anyone hurt? I know that the Leander game really took a toll on the Lions as far as injuries go, but what about the Panthers?

Pflugerville just plain played a lousy game. This had to have been the worst execution since the Tivy game last year. seemed like a lack of concentration by all. QB in shot gun and ball hiked over his head to the full back, setting up an early score then on kick off everyone looks at the live ball in the field of play until McNeil recovers. A player with an attitude ejected (deserved)from the game early. As many have said though...McNeil is a very solid program.
Turnovers and execution win ball games and Pflugerville had more than needed to lose that game.
In the "W"/"P" matchup this should be a competitive game with the same factors determining the outcome. Provided neither team made mistakes Pflugerville should have the upper hand. They have been the better team in most all their losses this year but every loss was self inflicted. They have done pretty good against the run and except for Leander with multiple receivers they have done good in the secondary. Westlake seems to have struggled on occasion against some of their weak district opponents but I was impressed with their come back against Hays.

If our offensive coordinator will get away from the overly conservative play calling Westlake could go far in the playoffs. We are very predictable. It seems we only open it up when we are down and time is running out. Second half comebacks can only go so far in the playoffs.

Statistically, Westlake has the most balanced offense in the state this year along with Katy. Not sure I follow you on that Chaps, but I'll defer to you since you see them every week.
