I am one. There are several degrees of Red Kneck-ness, so I thought I would say here some things that are true about "ME" If any of these things are true about YOU, could you be a red kneck?
1. Confederate stock. Ancestors from Ireland, Scotland and unkown. Last 5 generations from Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee and the Carolinas.
2. I seem to automaticlly stand up when DIXIE is played. May be genetic.
3. I will protect my home and family, my mobil home(;)), my truck and my dog. Hope thats ok
4. I stand, take my hat off, put it over my heart, when the National Anthem is played.
5. My opinion of people is formed by thier actions.
6. Some of my favorite musicians are Alison Crouse, T-Bone Walker, SR Vaughn, and Ray Price.
7. I consider it a privilege to say the PLEDGE OF ALLIGIANCE
8. I am a Christian. Saved by the Blood of Jesus. But many times I dont measure up, and I keep trying.
9. I have had lots of trouble with the IRS and other government agencies over the years.
If three or more of these thing are true of YOU, you might be a RED KNECK too:eek:

July 4, 1863 is correct. Vicksburg, and much of the state of Mississippi does not celebrate the 4th of July.
Who was the General in charge of Yankee forces at the siege of Vicksburg?

That land was stolen from the Custis and Lee families, after R.E. Lee married Mary Custis and declined to command the northern army against his native state. It was the only home that R.E. Lee ever owned himself. Even the US Supreme Court later agreed that the land had been improperly confiscated by Meigs and the US government and offered a cash settlement. Of course, by that time, the land had already been extensively used as a burial place for union soldiers.

Meigs purposefully did so. It was his intention to render Lee's property so that it could never be occupied as a home again. Arlington was not originally intended as any place of honor, as it has become over the years. Meigs, in fact, issued an order that he should be buried as close to Arlington House as possible in an effort to assure that the property could never be used as a residence again. Considering that the original structire had been built as a memorial of sorts to George Washington and many of Washington's posessions were still there, the treatment of the property at the time was truly abominable. Fortunately, Lee's loss of his beloved home has become very much a special place today.

Yes it has evolved into a special place, overcomming its original dis-honor. I have seen talk that other yankee dead that have desecrated Southern soil should be dug up and moved. I am sure they would finish filling up Central Park

I understand the origin of the term is from a union/nonunion confrontation in the 1920s along the KY, WV border where the miners from the union formed a small "army" to confront a pretty brutal management bunch. To identify themselves, the union forces wore a red bandana around their necks and were referred to as "rednecks."

Kinda like the red legs from the Civil war, later depicted in the movie "The Outlaw Josie Wales".

See, now I can tell my daughter that she is wrong...in the truest sense of the term, I am not a redneck...oh wait, she did see me wearing that red bandana while riding my Harley, after teaching her to shoot my 45 and before tuning up my pick up so I could deliver the goats to market.
