Not great, but not bad at all. Then again, I won my fantasy league last year with Jeff Garcia as my QB and WRs like Torry Holt and Bobby Engram. Brian Westbrook was a savior...

Because he hasn't been healthy for an entire season of football since he was a freshman in college and scored fewer than 8 points 5 times last season. He had games where he hit 45 points and then the next week he would doom that same team with 4 points. It was a great late-round or free agency pick up last year (I got him 9th round) but there is no way I would take him first or second round. That is just me.

Hookem, what would your draft order be by position?
I'm thinking mine will be along the lines of RB, WR, RB, WR, QB but not really sure yet

It really depends who is on the board when I get to pick. The only running back I would take this year with a first round pick is LT or maybe Joseph Addai. A lot of people are high on Westbrook but in my opinion he is a HUGE injury risk I wouldn't dare take in the first two rounds. I usually end up drawing a late pick and if both of those players are taken I would take a QB like Tom Brady.
The thing about running backs with me is that they are more injury prone than other position players, are splitting time more and more often, and every single year there are two or three backs that come out of nowhere to have amazing seasons. Two years ago I picked up Larry Johnson off free-agency mid-season and last year I picked up Adrian Peterson in the 9th round and Ryan Grant off free-agency. The highest running back I drafted sat on the bench for most of the season.
If I had to list I would say... QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, K.

The only way your strategy works is if you play with morons. If you played with people who legitimately knew how to play there's no one you could pick up at runningback by the time you felt like drafting one.
You say you wouldn't dare take Westbrook, easily one of the top 5 running backs in fantasy, before the third round. In my league there's usually 20 running backs taken by the middle of the third round. That would leave you with a guy like Reggie Bush or Michael Turner as your #1 runningback, meaning you're already out of playoff contention.
Last year was also the first time that the difference between the top receivers and the bottom receivers was significant. Normally a receiver outside of a top tier guy (in this years case Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Reggie Wayne, etc..) should not be picked until the 3rd round because the point differential is so low.
This typically holds true for quarterbacks as well. For instance, last year in our league David Garrard was the 13th best quarterback, whereas a guy like Drew Brees or Carson Palmer was 3 or 4. This year those guys went in the first 2 rounds, but David Garrard lasted until the 8th. If you don't get one of the top guys, it's typically good to wait and pick up a high risk high reward type guy.
I guess it all depends on your league though. If you can get Adrian Peterson in the 9th freaking round than keep doing what you're doing. Typically though people have a much better idea how the game works.

He was inconsistent, but he still led the NFC and finished 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards, while splitting carries and missing time due to injuries. Even if he matches last years total that puts him as the 3rd best running back, about where his draft position indicates.

The only weakness I see with it is at runningback. Adrian Peterson is good, but like Hookem said, he's injury prone. If he misses any time, or is on a bye week, that leaves you with Matt Forte and Deuce McAllister. In other words, it leaves you with a rookie mid-round pick and a time sharing veteran coming off a blown ACL.
Your receiving corp and tight ends look solid though. And Peyton will never be bad.

His total production is great but what I care about is how many games I will win or lose because of him. If he has 8 great games where he runs 200 yards and 8 mediocre games where he hits only 50 yards he will have led the league in rushing with 2,000 yards and will probably have the most fantasy points but what happens to my roster those 8 games where is taking it easy?
Look at the last seven weeks of the season where he nearly cost me first place and then almost cost me the championship.
Week 10: 45 yards, 0 touchdowns
Week 11: DNP
Week 12: DNP
Week 13: 116 yards, 2 touchdowns
Week 14: 3 yds, 0 touchdowns
Week 15: 78 yards, 2 touchdowns
Week 16: 27 yards, 0 touchdowns
Week 17: 36 yards, 0 touchdowns
I am not sold on a player with that type of inconsistency, especially late in the season, with a first round pick.

That's fine, but his offense should be improved this year with a bolstered receiving corp and an additional year under both his and Tarvaris Jackson's belt.
Either way, at the 6th pick it's a phenomenal selection.
Just curious, who got picked ahead of him?

I went with a QB in the first round last year and I'm contemplating on pushing him as far back as my 5th pick. RB and WR put up the big points if you can grab them high enough. Qb just isn't as important as the play make positions... That's why I'm thinking RB, WR, RB, WR or QB

It isn't like they are trading Chester Taylor. He might be getting the majority of the snaps but after what happened with him on my team last year I won't take the chance. I can certainly understand why people are grabbing him but the saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" applies to me here.

QB Drew Brees, NO QB Good QB to have. I think he's in for a big year...so many weapons on that team. I'm guessing this was your 3rd rounder?
RB Steven Jackson, StL RB Im sure this was your 1st round pick...what # pick? I imagine between 4 and 6? Took a step back last season, still isn't in camp, if Bulger goes down again (which is likely at some point) it will hurt his production...I had him his rookie year, but not sold on him as of right now. Really it just comes down to how high you picked him vs who else was out there.
RB Darren McFadden, Oak RB Rookie back, bad team, iffy passing game which hurts the RB and also will split time with experienced Fargas.
RB/WR Dwayne Bowe, KC WR His production will come down to Brodie Croyle's effectiveness. That's a little scary behind a horrible offensive line. When Brandon Marshall is active, it should put Bowe on your bench. Bowe is a guy you can play matchups with later in the year and get a couple good weeks out of him.
WR Braylon Edwards, Cle WR P Great pick...judging by the rest of your lineup, you got him somewhere near the middle of round 2?
WR Calvin Johnson, Det WR Great pick...I think he will come good this season and has looked great in preseason. You probably got pretty good value with what round you picked him in...the 4th?
TE Dallas Clark, Ind TE Great TE to have. I believe he led all TE's last season in TD's
D/ST Raiders D/ST, Oak D/ST Are you a raiders fan?
K Rob Bironas*, Ten K O Titans seem to flame out in FG range a lot. Please tell me you waited until one of the last couple rounds to pick your kicker...
Bench Brandon Marshall*, Den WR O I love this pickup and you probably got great value for him too. If his suspension appeal is unsuccessful, he will blow up for you when he returns in week 4. He will/should easily be your 3rd skill position starter instead of Bowe whenever he is active to play.
Bench Jonathan Stewart, Car RB P A promising young back, although his stock seems to be falling as preseason goes on with DeAngelo Williams looking really good.
Bench JaMarcus Russell, Oak QB Some potential here, but I'd generally like a more proven QB as my 2nd QB. I think JaMarcus would be a good 3rd QB
Bench Vernon Davis, SF TE Click Clack son...a great 2nd TE to have IMO.
Bench Jerricho Cotchery, NYJ WR A great pickup with Favre on the roster. Another guy you probably got great value on.
Bench Tatum Bell, Det RB A little iffy on this one...he has had a few good moments in his career so far, but none with the Lions. I think the Lions will be going with the rookie Smith.
Anyway, JMHO of course. It was fun.
EDIT: Word today is that Jackson will be ending his holdout tomorrow and will arrive at camp.
