Matthew Frazee, Class of 2001, has Leukemia.
Y'all may not remember him since he was a backup during his career at Katy. But I know some of y'all are in our same age bracket and may have gone to school with him.
I've worked with Matt since January and we've gotten to be really good friends. He's actually married to a girl I went to elementary and middle school with here in Austin. It's been nice to get to know them (her for the 2nd time) the last few months.
We just found out a couple weeks ago that he has Leukemia. He had been sick for a couple weeks and finally went back to Houston to get a thorough checkup. He's in the hospital there in Houston right now. He was supposed to come home to his brand new house last Friday, but got an upper respriatory virus. He's now fighting that off, which is very difficult since the first round of chemo has left his immune system virtually destroyed.
I got to see him Friday and Saturday as I went down to Houston to help his wife move into their new house. To see him and hear him, how emotional he is now, is really tough. But I won't stop going to visit. Too many people quit visiting the sick because they don't know how to act or what to say. If you're in my position...JUST GO. Be with them. Make them laugh.
This isn't a death sentence. He actually got "lucky" with the type he has. He's looking at a year's worth of chemo treatments and possibly a bone marrow transplant.
Send your prayers and well wishes to him, his wife and family, and the doctors and nurses that are treating him.
