By tomorrow afternoon, I guess all teams will be working on this season's accomplishments. I guess at this point, let's hear about each teams' scrimmages. Against who, when, where? What do YOU think your team can do this year?

Cywoods at Seven Lakes (Sat 8/23 at 7:00pm)
Westfield at Cywoods Thurs 8/28 at 7:00pm)

Seven Lakes is expected to make the playoffs, so it will be a good scrimmage for us to see how we stack up.

Westfield will be a great eye-opener for our guys and should help prepare them for the 1st pre season game against A & M Consolidated.

I am not sure Seven Lakes will be a telling scrimmage for your guys. The Westfield scrimmage should be a good gauge of where they are though. Westfield brings a very fast, talented and well coached team ever since Meeks(?) took over. If your guys can hang close with them, they will do very well this year. Falls uses THAT game to gauge where they are at each year.

I would think Westfield would be tough for most teams.

They have proven to be over the past 5 years.

The Chronicle will be giving its rundown on 15-5A on Thursday. It will be interesting to see what they have to say about this year. I sometimes feel the reporters are reading this website to get their opinions.

Just going on my own knowledge right now (which of course is limited)....

1. Ridge - we all know they are stacked and well experienced, but can they be a dedicated TEAM with all the attention and pre-season hype?

2. Falls - they have the program in place and the best passing qb in the State, question is whether they have the personnel to improve the defense.

3. Woods - just from what I have heard, they are loaded talentwise, have a good coach and an explosive scheme.

4. Fair - they are always in the hunt when they have a high quality rb and Cobb fills that bill, but outside of that I am unsure about them.

4b. Langham - I hear they have a really good qb & wr's (witness 7o7 this summer). Can they develope a defense and an offensive line to go with them?

6. Cy Creek - their baseball returned to prominence last year, maybe that will fire up their football program again.

7. JV - They have been waining since '04. I have not heard anything that says that trend is going to change this year.

8. Springs - last year this was the absolutely smallest group of kids I have seen on a varsity field, but, they were all very quick. If they grew since last year, they might fight their way out of the cellar.

Cobb has already graduated, and will be playing for Air Force. Cy-Fair will have Tevin Champaine at RB. I also believe Chad Green will be getting a some carries with Champaine also playing of defense.

My projection:
1. Ridge
2. Falls
3. Woods
4. Fair

Dark horse being Langham Creek

Actually, The Bobcat Cobb has a younger brother that is a Wildcat that is
also a running back.

I thought Cobb was a Jr last year. But, as you can see, we agree on the order of finish.

I saw a kid trying out for baseball about 3 years ago for the Woods team in the 18u program in CFSA. Had a very similar build to Cobb. He had the sweetest 5.0 run to first base I have ever seen. Wish I could remember his name.

Wesley Cobb's little brother is Brian Cobb.

Due to age or head injury, I can not remember the kid's name. But what I saw was beautiful. So fluid, so smoothe.

Someone on the 13-5A thread says that Falls will be scrimmaging Klein Oak on Aug 22. Didn't give time or location. Any verification out there?

The Touchdown Club revealed its preseson All-Greater Houston team in today's Chronicle, and 15-5A was represented pretty well. Sheppard made it as an athlete and two Jersey Village guys made it on defense. What bothers me is the selection at tight end. I have no argument with Northshore's Barrett Mathews at TE, because that guy is a beast. However, how does Strake Jesuit's guy (the name escapes me) make it instead of Cy-Fair's Colby Goodwin? I know I am showing my Bobcat bias, but I just do not understand it.

Edit- Forgot to mention Kolby Gray (Cy-Falls) made the list at QB.

Must be Wes Williams (Sr.) TE 6'3” 205

I haven't heard much about him either, but i don't think he's got quite as much experience as Goodwin does. And as you say, there's no argument about Barrett Mathews being a All-Greater Houston top pick for the TE position, But i definately think the second pick would go to Goodwin. Goodwin is just too good not to be.

Yes he does.
Here is a link to a recent article. David Jones has a pretty realistic and conservative perspective on this season.

I never put a lot of stock in their predictions, but it should be an exciting season and there will probably be a battle for the number 4 spot. Here is the link to the article:
