Here it is folks. Let's bury the offseason thread and start with pre-season and season tracking of valley football. Post game reviews, practice reports, predictions, smack talk, and anything else here. Put out an APB for TeamFalcon, ElPrez, Hunterbunter, RPM, Shokkin Da World, and any other RGV posters. If any of you are members at rgvsports.com, bring over the GOOD posters. Leave the idiots. Help this valley fan keep track of what is going on, since I am in exile.

The valley forums suck. They've redone them and I don't know if they got any better, but in the past it was basically a Los Fresnos fan site. If you tried to talk about anything other than the greatness of the Falcons you got the boot. The other thing they did that sucked was muzzle anyone offering an honest assessment of the state of valley football.

I want this thread to be mostly for the valley fans to use to discuss and track all of the teams. It'd be great if other fans want to join in, but no haters or trash talkers. Just good football discussion.

Lets hear it for Rio Grande City! The Rattlers have put together a couple of +.500 years in a row, lets do one better this year and make the playoffs!

Actually, I have a great friend from RGC who is a true sports fan and has been suffering for many years with his beloved Rattlers. He is the kind of class person you meet frequently in The Valley who see hospitality and hard work as obligations not options....

He has made me a Rattler fan and I have him rooting for The Diamond J(notwithstanding the unlikely possibility that RGC and Judson MIGHT meet up in the playoffs someday).

On paper, it looks like a year for some of the familiar faces. In 4A La Maquina EE will ALWAYS be there, and in 2A I think PI is still a safe bet
(someone recently was trying to pull my leg by telling me that EE had moved up to 5A....if its true, someone give me a shout).

In 5A, I'm keeping my eye on those Donna Redskins. I think the community has finally moved beyond "hazing-gate"......

McMemorial was always in fact McStephens. He was an incredible player and he carried that team on his back. A classic example of what IA type talent can do in the valley.

It has kinda faded into the background although of course rivals still trash talk. Dave Evans, the Donna HC, ended up taking an assistant position (very low paying) at Texas A&M Kingsville for the season after and I am not sure where he is now. I'm not sure what happened to the athletes.

Coach Evens is at Valley View (3a i think), and might have been at either hanna or rivera (cant remember). the hazing thing doesnt get brought up as much around here anymore because it's a "new" staff, and since there hasnt been anything else happening there isn't a reason to. but i have no clue as to the players involved.

Donna got hit HARD by that scandel and you could see it the years afterward. the teams, the fans, the atmosphere just wasn't the same. from clips ive seen lately it looks like Donna is on track to where they used to be, at the top of the valley.

rio grande city has a beast sophmore running back...at a combine he ran a high 4.5 or 4.6 a high vert somewhere around 36 or 37 and benched 185 more than 20 times watch out for him hes barely gonna be a sophmore.

Evans is coaching 4a ball at Valley View.....after Donna he went back to school at kingsville and also got a position job with the javalinas football team but that didnt last to long....he got VV there first win que no?

as far as the scandal we have moved on....yea it gets brought up in trash talk but thats not something we as redskins joke around with so we leave it at that...and let them talk...most of the people talking got what they deserved this past season and havent said much since....what those kids went through is not something to joke around about....as far as the guys who did that well the got punished and went through court....

Moreno a long time assistant coach at Donna is now in charge of the tribe and he has done an excellent job in his first year...IMO had Chavez just gone in there and kept on working and not taken away the programs the kids worked with he would of been succesfull....Chavez made to many changes that didnt need to be done and it affected the team.....the talent was there for Chavez to keep the program going...

This year will be Morenos true test...he had a sr team last year but he did a great job rotating players alot...I feel confident about our skills guys....in Donna it has always been about the line and it just so happens Moreno was the O Line coach....if we can get our O Line to be solid we should do well again this year....

VMS just had an arguement saying that the toughest district to play in this year is 32-3A.

I don't like this site's district strenght rating. I don't think 32-5A is tougher than 31. There is some good strength at the top but it falls of badly once you get to the B-ville schools. Just plain awful football in Brownsville.

Going to the Harlingen games in the 1990's we saw it all the time. That was back when Porter was mired in the state's longest losing streak. We counted fewer fans than players one year. Pace was bad, too. Hanna used to get out an OK crowd back then.

You know what other school was terrible? Donna. I remember 63-7 type buttkickings, year after year back then. They always had better support, but the football was terrible. That's why I laugh when they talk about being a traditional powerhouse. They were just plain miserable for decades. I was at the game where they beat us for the first time since the 1920's.

yea my first game was in 90. i was like 3 or 4 months prolly. porters' never had a crowd, except when billy joe garza was QB, but hanna had atleast 100 people show up....

decades....how bout more like one decade....from the mid 80s to just past the mid 90s we had a terrible decade of football....other than that...weve been playing good fooftball.....harlingen does have our # though...

Los Fresnos' success has been due to Ford. They were a pretty stout 4-A team when he was running the show, then fell off when he explored options up in North Texas. Competed just fine with E-E. They picked right back up when he came back down. All the credit in the world to him, he's got a great thing going down there.

Actually, they moved from SB/Harlingen area in 6th grade.

As a matter fact, the TEAMFALCON website started because of those two. I wanted to highlight JR high players moving up the ranks.

We were neighbors and I would watch them workout in the middle of summer so I walked up and asked them, "what are you guys doing?", their response, "We're getting ready for football".

That's when I started the website, to recognize the efforts of our young football athletes......and well, the rest is history.

Benavides' family bought a house in North brownsville (Benavides family from Brownsville), and since LF school district covers 50% of Cameron County, he was zoned to LF. Benavides has been going since 5th grade.

Oh Absolutley, in coach Ford's first year (2002) at LF, the Falcons went 11-1 and beat EE 44-20, in 32-4A to become district champs.

Then he left, the following year EE won 21-0. (2003)

Then we moved up to 5A in 2004.

RGC (besides LF) is the only team i see making the playoffs from those 4....

and personally, your QB won't have time to make decisions with SB's line in your backfield everyplay.

like i said, as long as marquez progresses they will win.

PLC does not deserve that Top 10 ranking. They are so overrated that its not even funny. EE beat them 2 years ago and an overrated Calallen beat them last year handily. PLC just got lucky that the UIL moved them out of Region 3 and into Region IV. El Campo, Lamar Consol, Bay City would still be owning them if they were in that district still.

PLC will do fine in their weak district, but it'll be another 2nd round loss IMO.

I wish I was gonna be on hand at Boggus. Taking down CC Calallen is no small thing. A lot of folks were picking McHi as near tops in valley 5a and Harlingen pretty much beat them all over the field. They scored on their final possession to bring it within a touchdown. Cards with 3 turnovers recovered.

Gonna be a good one.....these two might be the class of deep South Texas this year.

The whole is rarely greater than the sum of the parts over there, whereas Harlingen is usually the opposite.

South fans are teh suck. HHS fans packed Boggus even during those awful 98 and 99 seasons, the first losing ones in over 20 years. South fans won't show up unless they are picked number one in the valley. Someone told them they would suck this year so they already decided they did.

I can't stand South folks. I mean, I despise Greyhounds, but I respect the passion they have for their team and the way they supported them through thick, thin, and years of crappy football. The South people are just too lame-o to really dislike.

The atmosphere is just so different at the two Harlingen games. South games are like a Treasure Hills social gathering, but you better bring your football knowledge and passion to a Cardinal game.

No cheap shot. SB was really bad for years and Prez knows it. Actually, not really bad but just not very good, which was almost worse. Just could never get the job done. Pena has done wonders for that program and the rivalry is actually a bit more fun now that it isn't so lopsided.
