Last year the Panthers had a an experienced offense and a young defense that both got hot in the playoffs. This year the defense returns, but the offense loses three 215 lb, fast running backs in Carruth, Gooden (Missouri) and Nwoko (Arizona). The Panthers look to sophmores to surround FB Sandoval. These kids are fast, but they are in the 160-175 lb range. The Panthers won't be punishing folks like last year, they will look more like Temple on offense from 07.

he is right they are fast . my son who he plays with them tells me they are stepping up as leaders. my son being a senior tells me not to worry about our offence that our offence will be just fine. Pflugerville has big shoes to fill but its like that every year. yes these backs are small size but boy can they run. also some of the defensive guys will get some snaps running the ball.
we will find out this monday. i will be at the practice seeing how these boys do.

but 4 teams from a District gets in theplayoffs. CertatainlyP-Ville can accomplish that. Remembering the State Game, P-Ville has quite a defense. That should keep you guys in the hunt. A lot of Katy fans are Okafor fans. He's the real deal.

With that D coming back in full force, your O isn't going to have to do much to ensure that W's are posted. I think they will have plenty of time to gel and mature before the playoffs get here.

Being a little on the small side could come into play when it comes to staying healthy. Their are some big hitters in your district.

Great offenses make great programs. That is why the teams with all the "talent" are not the ones that win state, save for once in a while, Northshore, Lufkin, Cedar Hill... Their offense is gonna have to come along in order to win district and to make a semi-final run at least, 26-5A ain't chopped liver.

I was glancing at last year's P-ville scores because I've heard so much about the defense, and saw that they gave up almost 21 points a game and held just one team under 10 points.

In high school ball, dominant defenses don't allow 21 a game or give up at least 30 four times. Granted, there is talent. But 21 a game. ...??

And I know that district is good, but not that great. 39 to SP, 31 to Round Rock? A

Very astute of you picperp. The Pville defense was not dominate the entire year as you have pointed out via points allowed. The defense was very young as evidenced by us having 8 full time starters returning. It really wasn't until after our first playoff game against Temple that the defense took off. I have been around football my entire life and I have never seen a defense improve as much as Pville did during the playoffs. It was amazing to see how well our defense played against Klein Forrest, Carter, Longview, Abilene and for 1/2 against Katy. The teams listed above all had excellent offenses and Pville shut them down, save Katy. I no longer have a dog in the hunt because my son graduated last year, but trust me when I say that Pville's defense should be one of the best seen in the Austin area for several years. Take some time and go see Pville practice in the next couple of weeks. Their defense looks like a college team with size, speed and nastiness.

That Longview win opened my eyes (along with the rest of the state's), and holding the 2007 Katy Tigers to 28 was an accomplishment. If they can carry that consistency through the entire season, give 'em 25-5A. But they can't afford any of those apparent brain-lock defensive games (the ones where they allow 30) because Westlake and Bowie will put up those kind of numbers. Can't wait.

Their defense got better by leaps and bounds in the playoffs, and they were the new players, the offense had all the experience. Great offenses with good defenses win in high school. If you can't put up points, then the great defense gets fatigued and gives up points to the great offense that constantly puts pressure on you, while their average defense is able to stand up to your average offense, especially if you are one dimensional. Lake Travis had not won many playoff games, but their offense didn't miss a beat in the playoffs, while their average defense stepped up and got stops when they needed to. You are not gonna win state title with just a great defense and an average offense. The best programs are known for their offense first, Carrolls spread or their wishbone under Ledbetter, Trinitiy's power running game, Liberty Hill's slot-t... The teams that rely on having superior athletes and a simplistic offense, usually get 40 plus put on them in a 3rd or 4th round game, where their offense is shut down and their defense gets outschemed and wornout, like Skyline vs Plano. I know P-ville will be good in district, but I just think Westlake might have to much firepower on offense and enough defense to slow down the sophmores.

Agreed, D-train. That's why I pick Westlake to win 25-5A.

yep 3 RBs like that are almost impossible to replace. Those guys were mammoths and very very good. I cant help but think Longview may have been a little scared against them last year.

I heard directly from a source who has coached against P-ville for 20 someodd years that this P-ville soph class is the best he has ever seen come through at that school. Given last years class, I think that says alot. If those kids get the opportunity to grow up a bit, (which their defense should provide that opportunity), then P-ville can be something special.

Longview's fans and players were in total shock by halftime. It was Pville's best game of the year. I'm sure many people around the state were also very surprised when they heard the score.
