Should be a very interesting game......Donnie Shorts at QB is one of the best.

I don't think Heights has what it takes to go all the way through 4 quarters...especially with someone like Lufkin.

Yeah, Harker Heights has most of the talent in Killeen......so, they will be tougher than you think. Ross Rogers is a great coach and their offense if they are clicking can be pretty good.

The logo is really sharp.....you'll see it on a bunch of vehicles. It's a sheild with an H in the middle of it. Pretty smart whoever created it.

what type of speed do they have? I am not sure if they can match up with the panthers in the speed category but dont know. there are not to many teams in the State that can match the panthers and play them for 4 quarters.

if the Panthers show up and play then this game will be over and the panthers win. not knowing anything about heights is will give them 14 pts.

adn that may be my lufkin biased but the panthers will be hard to beat. but this is the playoffs and anything can happen but the pack will play hard. And for second half adjustments there is no better coaching staff in the state than in Lufkin for making thos adjustments. and on the D side well # 11 side of the field will be on lock down for whoever comes out there. L. hewitt is the best corner in the state. you throw to his side it will get picked and returned for a TD.

Thoughts on this match-up...

As I've been thinking about this match-up, I think Lufkin will win but have some other thoughts. I don't think it will be a blowout like many think but a 14 to 17 point win for Lufkin. I'm not trying to get the Lufkin Fans on the board fired up here. Yes Lufkin has great athletes and coaching staff.

Harker Heights coach has won a State Championship in 4A while with A&M Consolidated. Harker Heights is only 6 years old and have been in the playoffs 5 of those 6 years. They understand the caliber of competition in the playoffs. This is their second year in 5A and they are in the playoffs.

If Lufkin comes into the game thinkng it will be easy and look past Harker Heights it could be tough. I don't think Lufkin's coaching staff will let that happen but stranger things have happen. Remember the playoffs a couple of years back...

In 2003 something happened to the team chemistry about 3 weeks before the playoffs began. There rumours around town about what happened. However, LISD never made any public statements about it so I won't repeat the rumours here. What I am saying is the signs were there beginning with the 14-7 loss to REL that year. Anybody who couldn't see what was happening was just plain blind. I think the Lufkin coaching staff learned some valuable lessons that year about managing the attitudes of the kids.

Fast forward to 2005...

Yes this team is young and inexperienced at the playoff level. However, the coaches have done a great job of only letting the kids focus on the next opponent. I submit as evidence a couple of radio interviews with the OC and DC on radio yesterday. They both admitted they haven't even thought about playing the Knights yet. There was still one more district game left and their focus is on preparing the team for Klein Collins. It was great to hear!

If you think Lufkin will be looking past Heights, guess again! The Knights will have to bring their A+++++++++ game to get past Lufkin. That is just a fact! No longer will Coach Outlaw let his teams look past opponents. They play them one game at a time. Harker Heights will get their shot, but the district campaign is not over yet.

To compare to a program like Harker Height's to Garland is funny to say the least. Garland is always very tough and is always capable of beating anybody on any given night!! and did yall forget Garland won a state championship in 99?? I am looking at HH's scores on the year and they do not look too impressive?? Cedar Park beat them 35-0 so how good can their qb be?? Do not get me wrong anything can happen in the playoffs but Lufkin has learned to not look past teams and 60-7 in the last 5 years prove that. Garland was the only non top 10 team at the time they have lost to in those 7 losses in 5 years. That should tell you that they beat the ones they are supposed to 99 percent of the time. If Lufkin loses the flip i guess anything can happen but i still like LP big but if it is at Abe it is over before it starts. At Killeen Lufkin wins 35-10 at Abe Lufkin wins 49-6. That is just my honest prediction.

Several Cove players (Atchinson ,Garner,Buckram) took a recruiting trip to A&M and several Lufkin boys were there also.The boys said it was unreal how strong and physically built the lufkin kids looked.Very confident also.

Do I think Harker Heights will pull off the upset? No. I just do not think it is going to be a 30 or 40 point blowout.

Lufkin's Offense - 1700 yards passing and 1282 yards rushing. The passing yards are spread out over at least 4 different receivers. The rushing yards are spread out over the qb and two rbs.

Lufkin's Defense - Allowing an average of about 150 yards per game. They are allowing about 10 points per game. They have had two outstanding games allowing -14 total yards in one and 16 total yards in another. The defense returned two interceptions and one fumble for touchdowns against The Woodlands.

Lufkin will be hard to stop from scoring and even harder to score against.

Trust me Heights has improved every week of the season, exception belton. The last game of the season heights played great D against a very athletic waco team, ask cove how tuff waco is....my point is this, why does everyone from lufkin talk about heights like they have see them play. How do you know what shorts will do? Bring this game to Buckley and we will have a football game.

Lufkin defeats Klein Collin @ Klein tonight 48-0 to finish 10 -0 in district 14-5A and is Lufkin's 22 district win in a row. Next game against Harker Heights @ Waco ISD Stadium next Saturday @ 2:00 p.m.

Panthers were firing on all cylinders tonight and looked primed for whatever Harker Heights will bring to the table next week.

No I really do think The Woodlands has better defense than anyone Longview played this year. Longview has a great team, but there are other teams that are as good if not better. I would really have to say that West Monroe and the Woodland's D are about even, with the speed going a little to the Woodland's(and yes, I have seen both play, my son lives in Conroe)...JT's and Marshall's D where good but not in the class of those two...and forgive Rclisle he is just excited, shouldn't of hijacked this thread.....

as far as HH goes, I have absolutley no idea about this team...if u guys are 5-5 and a third place team, u would need the Dallas cowboys on your side of the field to win..........

Actually Harker Heights finished at 6 and 4. I believe they are the third place team out of that district, but anything can happen in the playoffs. We proved that with a first round exit vs. Garland two year ago.

I don't know what HH brings to the field, but I know what Lufkin brings to the field. There is no doubt in my mind that we will be ready to play. If HH is ready to play it should be a good game. If it is close at the end of the third quarter then it will definitely be a good game. Lufkin has a tendency to blow teams out in either the first or third quarters.

If you haven't looked at the projected playoff brackets yet you need to. It looks like most (not all) of the competition is going to be in Div. 2.

Vondrell McGee (who has to be one of the best RB's in the nation) had 107 yds on 12 carries for a 8.9 per carry average which is on par with his 8.6 yd/carry avg. for the season. However, two of those runs were for 30 and 39 yds. If you take those two carries out, McGee was held to 3.8 yds/attempt. Chris Ivory was held to 40 yds on 14 carries for 2.9 yds/attempt, down from his 5.5 yds/attempt season average.

Now I know they only played until the middle of the 3rd quarter, but I hope this shows my point that if JT would stop giving up big plays, they would have a stellar run defense.

That may be true, but it is difficult to do. Lufkin has had the same problem. If Lufkin had stopped one or two big plays in two or three games, we would have held half of the teams we played to under 100 yards of total offense.

I am not saying that JT doesn't have a good defense, I am just saying that stopping the big play is nearly impossible and has to be factored in to McGees season average. I would imagine that a significant part of his per carry average comes on big plays. That is normal for any rb or wr.

What I said right there was a continuation of what I was talking about in another thread.

I was saying that JT tends to give up runs of 3 yds or less OR runs of 30 yds or more....... meaning JT usually doesn't give up a whole lot of runs between 3-30 yds. That's why I was saying if JT would stop giving up the big plays and could find a way to tackle someone after they get to or a little beyond the linebackers, then JT's defense would be a lot better (but then again, I guess that's pretty much common sense).

Lufkin is blessed with a ton of speed but I am afraid the 14-A playoff contingent may not go far. Don't get mad Pack fans, I hope I am wrong but here is what I am worried about.

Quite frankly, I don't think Lufkin saw anybody even close to what they will see starting in week 2. Even though they smacked a depleted Collins team last night, I did see a lack of decipline (un-Outlaw-like). Maybe they are just bored, I hope so.

Also, is there a reason Outlaw allows a player like #41 to kneal with his back to the flag during the National antham as he did last night? I know some kids mind is else where but this was diliberate. Maybe he is foreigner? Just was surprised at that and the Panther band blaring during the Collins Senior parent night intros 30 minutes before the game. Show class in victory as well as defeat. I wasn't at the game KC - so I can't comment on what you saw/heard. A little surprising you think Lufkin is not going to fair well in the po's. Sure, the district is down, but there are some decent teams that we also trounced - TWHS and KF for two. We'll see - but I feel better this time this year than I did last year when we laid an egg against KC for three qtrs. and almost blew district.

What disipline problems are you taking about, I didn't see any on our side. I did see some Collins guys talking trash and acting like fools with their team down 35-0. As far as #41, well the team had just ran out on the field and they were down in the endzone PRAYING, that is why he was on his knee.

Also, sorry about the band warming up during senior introductions, but you couldn't hear anything with that piece of junk sound system you have in that stadium, you can hardly hear that thing on the visitor side. Hence the reason our players were still in the endzone praying, they couldn't hear them announce the national anthem.

Quite frankly, I don't think Lufkin saw anybody even close to what they will see starting in week 2. Even though they smacked a depleted Collins team last night, I did see a lack of decipline (un-Outlaw-like). Maybe they are just bored, I hope so.

Also, is there a reason Outlaw allows a player like #41 to kneal with his back to the flag during the National antham as he did last night? I know some kids mind is else where but this was diliberate. Maybe he is foreigner? Just was surprised at that and the Panther band blaring during the Collins Senior parent night intros 30 minutes before the game. Show class in victory as well as defeat. No I really do think The Woodlands has better defense than anyone Longview played this year. Longview has a great team, but there are other teams that are as good if not better. If the Lobo team and coaching staff are as full of themselves as you are look for an early exit to Basketball season. Good luck to the Lobos and better luck to Lufkin.

Same thing happened at the Freshamn games, the pack was down 28-6 and got a 25 yard run and #20 from Lufkin was smacking away. Just kids I guess. Didn't see much smacking in the "b" team game when it was 35-6 Collins.

14-5a was much stronger last year. TWHS is not nearly the team they were last year. Collins lost everybody but Goodson and a couple of lineman plus was racked with injuries. Klein Forest was only team with enough talent to play with you and you killed them. KF was the biggest letdown this year.

As you know, I root for Collins first, Klein ISD secon and district 14-5a third. I hope to see you go far.

The only other real good team I have seen is Westfield and quite honestly, they should sweep everyone including the mighty pack.

Pack, pack, pack-----first of all, it wasn't Horn---they got drubbed by about 50...it was NM...and you can say what you want, brother, BUT, both of those teams would have given anyone a run for their money on those nights--and yes, even the mighty, invincible Lufkin Panthers...i was at both, i know what i saw....Longview wasn't "flat" or turned the ball over alot of times like alot of these Lobo fans would like everyone to believe....plain fact is, Rockwall and NM both had very good gameplans and stratagies to stifle the Lobo offense--they didn't miss a beat, looked really good in every aspect....these teams wanted it alot more than Longview, and we almost payed the price....i don't care when the 2nd teams were put in in the nac game...the score is what it was, and alot of this "struggling" with Nac. came out of your own fans mouths---i'm just going by what they said.....if you want to compare apples and oranges, let's do so----can you honestly sit there and tell me that Nac is just as good or better than Rockwall or NM?? You are right Bleed i had my fact's twisted on North Mesquite and Mesquite Horn. I also got Longview mixed up with Tyler Lee. Nac beat them in 99 not the Lobos i apologize. It was 92 when Nac beat Longview, and that is the same for Lufkin. I was wrong!! Either way Nac made 180 turn around this year and you would have to blind not to see that. I did not even recognize them this year?? I would definitely think they could play both NM and Rockwall tough. Ty for the info!! If you have secrets it will have to be something you have not run before this year because i promise you that Lufkin has been watching tapes all week. ;) I am sure yall have done the same. The Lufkin coaches will prepare the players but is still basically comes down to making plays no matter what the offense and defense the opposition runs.

The Lufkin coaches will prepare the players but is still basically comes down to making plays no matter what the offense and defense the opposition runs.

They prefer to pass over run this year because of their very talented qb and talented wr's. They also obviously do not have Lane anymore so they do not run as much as last year. There stats will not show it because they have had so many big leads that they have called of the dogs in the vast majority of their games and started running the ball for most of the 2nd half. Do not get me wrong Lufkin can still run it but they are a lot more dangerous with the pass.


The Lufkin defense just tries to out athlete you and they are very very talented. They blitz a lot and play 100 percent man to man. They take their chances and dare you to beat them.

LOL, True, this is a hs team no matter how good they are. Some seem to get a little too pumped up and excited and that is ok because it is playoff time. Enough of the hype let's just get it on and hopefully there will no injuries. I am sure HH is very aware of Lufkin's talent and speed and they are not scared or intimidated by them. They would not be a true competitor if they were scared and did not think they had a shot. That is why they play the game. I am just ready for Saturday i do not know about the rest of yall?? The coach for Harker Heights is the old coach for AMC. Heights is fairly new 5 years old only their second year in 5A other years they were 4A. They have made playoffs all of one year they have been in existance. They are part of the Killeen ISD although they are a separate city for tax purposes. They have lost to Cedar Park, COVE, AMC and what most consider a fluke loss to Belton. Well coached descent athletes especially at QB.

i've heard that Shorts is a really good athlete, BUT 5'9--160??? i don't think that he would last past the 1st quarter after the Lobo defense started delivering some knock-out punches...that's a little on the skinny side......and, as far as that goes, knowing Lufkin like i do, if Roberts gets a good direct "B-line" on that 160, it won't be pretty at all...plus, he will have to deal with the rest of the Lufkin D, as well.........not looking good----Lufkin by 55..........

Wile I am a LP Band member, I agree that the people who chanted that were completely rude and obnoxious and downright wrong. On behalf of the band, I would like to apologize to the HH team and fans, and even the lufkin fans, for misrepresenting our school because LP fans a known throughout the state to be high-quality fans. I'll do everything in my power to keep that from happening next week.

Favpack sup man?? I finally go to meet ol fav today. I went to the game with my sis and my oldest son and the next thing you know i am hanging out with wide and fav. LOL I met wide up there so that part was planned!!

Hey, I am still shocked after this one?? :eek: The Short's kid gave Lufkin hell. Lufkin must have had him sacked 7 different times and he still got away and made a play. The Lufkin defense gave up some yards but only gave up 17 points and 3 2nd half points so it they were not horrible. The offense forgot to show up for the 2nd half and the big fumble recovery for a td gave them life. This game is either a wake up call or a reality check?? We will see?? I sure did not see this game being close?? There sure were some questionable decision making by the Lufkin coaches at the end of regulation?? :eek: Either way they squeaked out a win and they did what they had to do. Maybe this will wake them up when this same thing happened in 2002 when a big underdog North Mesquite took them to ot in the 1st round. Lufkin went on to lose to SLC 33-30 in the state semis that year. One thing is for sure!! If Lufkin keeps playing like this we will be in Lufkin on Saturday's very very soon.


Oh, one more thing!! The who's your daddy chant at the end of the game by the band and "some" fans was completely unecessary!! :eek: Those kid's were big underdogs and just played their heart's out (almost got the upset) and many of these kid's were crying on the field. Lufkin barely beat a 3rd place team and they had the nerve to crank up that chant?? It was embarrassing and showed a lack of class in my opinion.

Those kid's were big underdogs and just played their heart's out (almost got the upset) and many of these kid's were crying on the field. Lufkin barely beat a 3rd place team and they had the nerve to crank up that chant?? It was embarrassing and showed a lack of class in my opinion.

Wile I am a LP Band member, I agree that the people who chanted that were completely rude and obnoxious and downright wrong. On behalf of the band, I would like to apologize to the HH team and fans, and even the lufkin fans, for misrepresenting our school because LP fans a known throughout the state to be high-quality fans. I'll do everything in my power to keep that from happening next week.

and hats off to HH, you guys are a great group of skilled players with great coaches and you fought hard till the very end. Best of luck to you next year.

OMG you do not know?? That guy was a trip!! With the way the game was going and watching Samuel L Jackson dance while shaking his thing i was thinking it was the TWILIGHT ZONE and i was going to wake up at any moment and it would be time to go to the game. LOL OMG is all i can say?? Ask wide!! He made me bust out laughing even when i wanted to kill my team. ;) He either hit the pipe or the bong at halftime but i am not sure which?? When it comes to wheat beer, the more crap floating around in it, the better. There should be enough carbs floating around to equal about 6 slices of bread.
