What channel WILL that game be on? Definitely going to be a good one.

But I remember watching Varsity Inc. once or twice. It wasn't as good as Two A Days which sucked in it's own right.

23. John Curtis (River Ridge, La.)
Last season's record: 12-2, Class AA champion
Key players: RB Kenny Cain (5-11, 210, Sr.); DL Walker Asburn (6-2, 255, Jr.); LB Jonathan Pippin (6-0, 210, Sr.); DB Jonathan McKnight (6-0, 170, Jr.); LB Matt Stansbury (5-11, 195, Sr.)
Outlook: Labor Day weekend will be huge for the Patriots when they open up with ESPN RISE FAB 50 preseason No. 1 Trinity of Euless, Texas, at Cowboys' Stadium. The defending Class AA state champions, who have won four straight titles and 22 overall under legendary 38-year head coach J.T. Curtis, have seven starters back on defense with four returning on offense. Curtis, who is the second winningest prep coach in U.S. history with a 455-48-6 record, will rely on 2007 top rusher Cain plus newcomer quarterback Evan Ingram (6-1, 195) to lead the offense. On defense, Asburn returns after being named the MVP of the 2007 state final while McKnight should continue to progress as a major college prospect. He started as a sophomore last year and is the younger brother of USC sophomore sizzler Joe McKnight.

I personally disagree on the basis that in at least the last 4 years if not more, John Curtis has only lost by more than 4 points once(10 points), has lost 3 games total, hasn't allowed more than 24 points in a game, and most importantly has won 4 straight titles.

#1 Joe McKnight is soft and all hype at USC, most over-rated player that has done little to nothing in college football, he's all hype and a soft runner.
#2 John Curtis lost to Longview, which was basically a very good 4A squad. Trinity is a college squad and will man handle this little private school and their veer offense. You actually think they will beat Trinity running the Houston veer? Longview was pounded by P-ville 35-14, running the wing-t, while they muscled all over JC last year in a tight win.

Not trying to make any excuses(that ain't me), but I hope JT gets John Curtis in Dallas Sunday night...Let em get a good nights sleep, get up early eat a good breakfast and get ready mentally for a "battle" that's coming....

Not taking anything away from a great Longview team last year, but that loading up the kids on the bus at 2am for a trip to Longview for an 11am game didn't work out so well for JC....JC looked alittle flat to me in that first half of the Longview game...I thought JC looked and played alittle better in the 2nd half...

This should be a war....

JC should be pretty decent this go around...Not sure it will enough to actually win the game, but they will most likely make it interesting...

Again I don't see Trinity manhandling John Curtis, in addition to the fact that Trinity traditionally starts the season slow, I challenge anyone to find the last time anybody has just whopped John Curtis' a$$, I bet you it won't be recent. Then taking in to account the typical first game sloppiness, the game being held at an abnormal time(11a.m.), and the matchups there is not significant evidence to suggest the above. With seven defensive starters from a defense that allowed 8 points per game for John Curtis and Trinity's defensive prowess, and 2 smashmouth offenses it adds up to a close game that should go quickly with relatively few possesions.

Last time that I can remember JC just being "handled was in 2001...

OP Walker(4A) beat John Curtis 20-0...JC played 4A then...John Curtis then beat OP Walker in the State Playoffs that year 33-0...JT made some adjustments....JT Curtis a pretty good coach, got to give him that...

In 2002 OP Walker and Curtis played twice....Curtis won the first game 28-25 and then Curtis beat OP Walker in the 4A State Title game that year 16-14...

OP Walker normally has plenty of talent here in the city...

I'm confused (nothing new) about schools in Louisiana. You said John Curtis is a private school? So, do the private schools play public schools there or what?

Mr Evangel
08-08-2008, 04:38 PM
Yes, Private schools and public schools both play in the LHSAA. Evangel which is also a private school has played many Texas teams. We have been whupped and whupped up on some. Schools that we have played have been Longview,SLC,Lufkin, Dallas Carter, Marshall, and Texas High. We play Lake Travis this coming year from Austin. John Curtis is in our same classification, they beat us last year 27-10 I do believe in the semifinals. The last time before last year that we played JC was in 99 in which we held on to win 28-27. JC has played OOS games before in Longview and Hoover Alabama. Three of the strongest teams in La are JC, West Monroe, and Bastrop La. Now we will play at least two of them which is Bastrop and JC. We have played WM several times in the past and are 7-1 against them.

This game with JC and Trinity will be a war,,,,,,,,,,,, I am going to have to side with JC as I am rooting for my state.

Privates and Publics battle it out over here in all classes...

In fact John Curtis lost to one of our 2A publics last year, St James...(16-14)...Curtis came back and beat St James in the 2A state finals in 2007(28-14)...

"St. James Parish (French: Paroisse de Saint-Jacques) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Convent. As of 2000, its population was 21,216"....I believe St James Parish has 2 public high schools...Parish is about an hour from New Orleans-they take football pretty serious over there...

Before you were around St James and Evangel Christian hooked up in the Dome for the 3A Title in 1996...Evangel ended up 15-0 and was ranked #21 in the USA Today poll that year....

St James has had some great teams also...

"GLORIOUS LOSS
Evangel 28 St. James 27
(December 13, 1996, New Orleans, La)
One of the biggest football games in the history of State Champinship games held inside the Louisiana Superdome."

Don't put all your stock of our program into a game that we just didn't come to play for. Pflugerville wanted it more and it showed. It wasn't because we were some "good 4A squad." Learn your damn facts before you go spouting off that we weren't up to par with the State of Texas last season. Pflugerville went to the freakin State Championship for God's sakes.

Not to open the Public school vs. Private school can 'o' worms; but this could be a trap game for ET. Private schools can recruit, and have the best kids at all positions. We have weak spots that we can't recruit to fill those spots.

I don't like the idea that the publics and privates are separate (which I agree with,) but it is okay to play an out of state private.

John Curtis won't have 13 or 14 D1 prospects like a certain Miami team had when they make the trip to Dallas....I promise you that...You can rest well...John Curtis be lucky to have 2....

John Curtis has had years where they've had 6 or 7 D1 prospects...I can remember several, but this ain't one of them...

John Curtis still gonna be pretty good...

On TV they said that a few buses left River Ridge at about 4 AM or something. The team actually stayed in Natchitoches and practiced at Northwestern State. They didn't have a bad drive at all. Either way, it's just cajun making excuses for a Louisiana team losing another game to Longview they shouldn't ahve.

Seriously. A "good 4A squad" which was one of 8 teams left playing? Who beat the snot out of Leander who beat Pflugerville? Yeah, the team didn't come to play against Pflugerville. Every time Longview would come back, they'd make a mistake and give it up again. They pulled within 7 at the half and then allowed a big play which they shouldn't have. Then after big plays, they'd fumble. It wasn't like it was a complete mismatch, even though the score said otherwise. If Pflugerville played against the same mistake-free team that played against Curtis (no turnovers, very few penalties, etc.) then I think the outcome would have been different.

My only point was and still is I thought JC looked alittle flat against Longview in that 11am game...Longview was the better team regardless and I'm sure Longview had plenty to do with Curtis looking flat...

I'll say it again though...I hope JT gets Curtis in Dallas the night before....That's better than traveling halfway then loading up yet again for the rest of the trip or leaving at 2am in the morning...If you can't see that-don't look...
