The east building will have 26 revenue-generating suites and a club level of 550 seats. So by adding about 1,000 seats we incraease revenue by about $3.2M per year. About 7.5 year ROI...

All those that say Jones looks like a high school stadium, step right up. For others, if you think Tech is dragging down the Big 12, step right up.

You're pretty insecure at times aren't you.

Was there a track around there at some time? What seats are new?

The track field is location southwest of the Jones. behind the Electrical engineering building. I've heard it's also the location of the 2009 Big 12 track and field championships. Renovations have begun apparently.

In the picture, the structure on the right (east) side will be the new seats being built.

No, but that comment was extraoridnarily random. Even for Lonny.

I am talking about the FF field. There is a ring around the grass that appers to be a remnant of a track. Hard to tell though.

There was a track around the stadium. They removed it when they put in the field turf.

From another board...

..funds are in place for a complete renovation of the track stadium. The track surface is being replaced. The infield will have a nine-lane sprint surface added running north-south. West half of the infield will also have 2 pole vault runs, long jump and high jump pits as well. The stands will have a brick facade added to match the brickwork of Jones stadium. Additional seating will be available in the southeast and northeast corners of the track. A new meet officials building will be added in the southwest corner. The northwest corner will have a brick archway entrance with a brick column wrought iron fence surrouding the entire stadium area. Construction is underway with plans to be completed in time for Texas Tech to host the Big 12 Championships next spring (late April/ early May).

I'm very excited about the expansion plans...I just hope they can find a way to keep the double t scoreboard.

There not messing with either endzone. I think they will keep the double T. Perhaps make a newer one. But they got to get the east side done first.

Seems like a very low pitch in those pictures. Is that the case?

Thanks, but where did it go? There is not enough room from the corner of the EZ's to the beginning of the stands to have housed a track.

When they did that at DKR, they lowered the field and moved the seats in. I do not see signs of that at Jones.

yep. look at the distance on the ground from the top of the stands to the field. Then check out another steeper stadium like DKR or Kyle Field.

That being said, there are really no bad seats there, as opposed to the top of the Zone at A&M when the play is coming into the north endzone. I like the Zone, but I would not sit at the top of it, which is a big portion of their visitors' section. tech is getting a lot of the "curb appeal" stuff they have skipped for so long. Once inside the stadium, it is not too bad to take in a college football game...as long as you bring your brass knuckles.;)

Tech has not had a track at Jones Stadium in at least 20 years since the RPFuller track was built. I will check it out and see if it has had one ever.

Low pitch? What a way to use the soccer term.

Yeah the field is lowered into the ground. When they enlarged it before they built the west side. They moved the stands back and dug into the ground. The whole lower level of the stadium is below ground level.

Old pic with the old Astro Turf and no Field wall. But this is what it looks like when you walk in on ground level.

Newer picture with the field wall from field level looking up into the stands.

Fuller Stadium is where the track meets are held. I think they've been held there for some time now...

When Tech put in the field turf they also added a field wall which houses a new drainage system for the field. It comes out like a foot maybe more from the stands. There use to be an overhang...

I don't see a track in 1966. That is when the stadium took on its current shape and basic stands. it's cool to go back to the current pictures and compare the pressbox, the north endzone, ect.

I think by "low pitch" he's referring to the fact that the seating bowl at Jones is not very steep. It's more shallow like a baseball stadium instead of steep like a typical football stadium.

It has nothing to do with insecurity. It has everything to do with me saying if Tech fans don't like the stadium, they should help make it better and at the same time all the puke orange fans are welcome to make our stadium more worthy of their presence since they think they're superior.

The new seats will be added on top of the east side of the stadium. Future renovations will make the north end zone bigger and maybe they'll work on the south end zone one day. I want more seats, but I can understand getting more revenue with luxury seats first.

I thought A&M was hosting the 2009 Track and Field Championships?

Edit: My bad, A&M is hosting the 2009 INDOOR Track and Field Championships.
