North Shore! Questionable This Year?????????

I know that "Da Sho" usually has great teams that beat up region 3. I think that part of it has to do with the enrollment(4215) which is one of the largest in the state. I wonder what would happen if Galena Park ISD decided to add a third high school. Lets see how good the mustangs would be year in and year out. I've yet to fugure out the enrollment gap between Galena Park (1743) and North Shore (4215). I have a buddy thats a coach there, and I have this same argument with him. Back when Beaumont only had two high schools, West Brook could dance in the numbers game with North Shore. Actually in 1994 when North Shore first got into the district 22-5A, West Brook was D1 and North Shore went D2 for the playoffs. The addition of a third high school in Beaumont in 1997 caused us to have some down years. However Stump has brought us back. We are one of the smallest 5A schools in the state, and I feel we can hang with anybody. I also think we will beat North Shore this year with their new 5'6'' QB taking over for McGinty.

2 weeks of practice. Experience playing teams like Judson. So you know what to expect the next time.

Undefeated in district is unimportant. What your record against good teams, like katy NS Falls.

Both NS and BWB will have great non-district schedules.

We've talked about North Shore playing Katy/Ike/CyFalls/LaMarque/Southlake Carroll. What a ridiculous schedule! But West Brook has Westfield/Ike/Katy so they'll be prepared for district also. With two quality common opponents (Katy and Ike), we'll have an early gage on who should be favored when they finally meet up.

Both teams should cruise through district play and be aiming at a whale of a tenth game, West Brook at North Shore, on November 7th.

I think both teams could be 7-2 going into the game and it'll still be the best game in the state that weekend to decide a district title. Can anyone project a better Week Ten matchup?

West Brook has a great QB and a great RB coming back, so they ought to score points like a pinball machine in that district. North Shore will be, I think, more defensive minded. Should be a great game.

Enrollment is'nt so much a factor as is participation. LaMarque, for one, has lower numbers overall, but they have more kids come out for football than 80% of the houston area schools. As Ns started winning consistently, the kids all wanted a piece of it. So, the program grew from there. As for the disparity, GPISD uses I-10 as the primary dividing line. While the NS area has space for development, GP is pretty much built out.

i wonder ummmm what would happen if... north shore was a 2A school and they played in the rio grande valley...... who cares! i really could care less about why your numbers are the way they are etc etc.... stop whining about it.... who cares! katy has low numbers like westbrook....so whats your excuse? ... and anytime you go one round further... you separate yourself from the rest by that margin...until the state finals.... so thats another weak argument..you lost to clements..and look what katy did to them the following week..... well i guess we will see week 10..... but until then im sure these kind of excuse based, we get no respect based, this site doesnt know what they are talking about, i wonder what would happen if..., etc etc posts and excuses will keep coming... oh and about the enrollment gap... its not hard to figure out..... galena park is landlocked.... there is much more housing within NS attendance zone within GPISD than there is in NS... you could redraw the lines, however... it would probably make no sense....because you would have kids that live 3 mins from NS high school going to galena park, a school in which they live 15-20 mins from.......got it? galena park is a small community and the numbers arent there on the south side of I-10.... plain and simple..

A campus for 9-10th and then a campus for 11-12th,.etc..........And actually Katy has about 250 more Kids than West Brook. We would be much better if we could take 250 more kids from Ozen.Im sure there would be about 10 atheletes out of that bunch......All im saying is cut North Shore's enrollment and by 30% to 50% and lets see if you would be a region3 powerhouse........probably not. Numbers do count for a program like NS......Heck if you put Houston Furr in the valley they would be a top team......and you say that West brook is "not" questionable.......thats your opinion and your entitled to it...... :notworthy

Enrollment doesn't play as big of a roll as you would think. Look at Lufkin, you will see that they arguably have more talent year in and year out then MOST teams in the State and they are hovering around 2200-2300 kids. Westbrook most years wouldn't be able to keep up with the type of speed and talent they produce. Lufkin despite having less kids at the High School, their Varsity roster boasts 80 kids. While teams with similar Enrollments like Humble(1 year after split) and Westbrook only boast around 50-60 kids.

I think we have the edge in coaching but NS has the edge in athletes and usually at the beginning of the season it takes a young Katy team some time to gel and hit on all cylinders and if an opponent has a lot of athletes they can present enormous problems. Just look at 2003 when Lufkin whupped up on Katy at the first game. It took that Katy team until the playoffs to start being a great team. with Converse Wagner in the fold, we'll see how many more Judson can get. I know you were close in 07, but nobody remembers 2nd place. Did you see how Wagner was ranked in the top 5 basketball polls all year...........thats a hint to how new schools change things

I think it took him a while to win the title because when he took the job there was a lot of turn over in the coaching staff, he finally found his guys. Sure the offense will struggle early whos doesnt. But to say Katy starts slow is innacurate when they havent lost an early game since 03'. I know many teams that would love to start that slow.

Humble is a team that has proven that they can play with the big boys, we may not beat them very often....but we always make it interesting. Respect us or not...it has no bearing on the fact that our boys are going to go out there and show you how to play Smash mouth football... Just ask your head coach if he thinks Humble is as big of a push over as you'd like to paint them.

A few pros? We have 6 NFL players, and 1 CFL player... thats more then a few.

So Humble not showing up in the beloved Dave's magazine is no surprise...its the same magazine that picked us to miss the playoffs and finish 5th or 6th last year...had Humble played the brook at Turner...it would of been a district championship instead of 2nd... The coaches poll won't put humble in the Top 20 either because we don't have the name recognition to go with success...plus i don't believe we deserve it just quite yet...not that the coaches poll even really matter anyhow. But as far as reasoning goes...This year is a year where the 10-25 could be just about anyone...The state across the board is extremely young , in fact after the top 9 you could put anyone up there that returns a good number of starters and had a successful season and their would be little to dispute. Fact of the matter is, most polls will go with the safe picks...the usual suspects. I commend the 5a staff for putting together a poll thats "different". Something where they put their names on the line, instead of gathering their poll data based on a Question sheet, Coaches poll, and AP poll.

Should Humble be ranked? Maybe not...Maybe they should. Only time will tell. here is one thing i know though...Our boys will knock the opponents teeth out to prove they deserve to win a game, FORGET THE POLLS....we are after a District title this year.

Name recognition. Are you serious? I know your'e from New Caney/Humble piney woods, but you could of made a better case than that. Mr Crow server!!

You should come check The Brook out vs Ike on Sept. 19 @ Thorne stadium. Then you can make an honest assesment of both teams.

I thought the same ting for a while, but i can onnly think of two years really that we started slow and became a really good team later, that was 02' and 03'. Both teams were at the helm of coach johnston. Joseph i believe has not lost a predistrict game and only lost 1 district. I think it took him a while to win the title because when he took the job there was a lot of turn over in the coaching staff, he finally found his guys. Sure the offense will struggle early whos doesnt. But to say Katy starts slow is innacurate when they havent lost an early game since 03'. I know many teams that would love to start that slow.

Why? There's a lot of inexperience on Katy and a lot of reloading to do. I think we have the edge in coaching but NS has the edge in athletes...

This was the main point I was trying to make in my post.
I wasn't meaning to say Katy ALWAYS starts slow. I was trying to make a comparison to 2003 with a reloaded team playing against a team that has Katy outnumbered in the athlete department.

And on the Joseph/Johnston note. Johnston would have beat Clear Lake in the R3 Final in '04 and maybe had a different outcome in the '05 State Game.

In my opinion, unless Coach Johnston could heal the injured then the outcome of the Clear Lake wouldn't have changed. Katy lost that game due to having so many key defensive players out that day. A healthy Dalton in the state game might have helped also.

well said.... thats why people respect the bruins...because of their program and fans like yourself.... and i disagree with the not giving you guys a second thought....the bruins are always tough.... no matter what... yes we at NS get attention....and i think thats what is eating at this guy....but if you look at it... NS posters havent been chest thumping.... or dissrespecting anyone...we arent crying about respect... or anything like that... we have one long NS mustang thread that was started by a mustang....but thats it.... so i like i have said... i have always thought the bruins had a good program... i think coaching changes have set you guys back a little...but looks like things are back on track..... so good luck this season...cant wait to see you guys up close and personal at gpisd later this season....and dont worry about the one bad apple..... most of us posters who have been around here a while have seen apples like these come and go..... we can look past that and see brook for what you guys are.... and thats a team that will compete for the region....:eek:

Are they excuses? I was just making a comment on what KTCarl said about Katy winning had Coach Johnston been there. One thing for sure is that there was no excuse for Falls' performance in the final against Cedar Hill (I told you to stop trying).

Thanks, man! We are back on the right track. I look forward to seeing a great game at your house in November. I will most likely be for the district title. Either way, I expect a great, hard fought game from both teams. Good luck on your season. That preseason schedule ya'll have is a whopper! It will prepare you guys for a long playoff run.

Yeah.That still doesn't make sense. GPISD wants to keep North Shore a football powerhouse..There is a need for a 3rd highscool. Why do you think North Shore keeps adding. A campus for 9-10th and then a campus for 11-12th,.etc..........And actually Katy has about 250 more Kids than West Brook. We would be much better if we could take 250 more kids from Ozen.Im sure there would be about 10 atheletes out of that bunch......All im saying is cut North Shore's enrollment and by 30% to 50% and lets see if you would be a region3 powerhouse........probably not. Numbers do count for a program like NS......Heck if you put Houston Furr in the valley they would be a top team......and you say that West brook is "not" questionable.......thats your opinion and your entitled to it...... :notworthy

Why? There's a lot of inexperience on Katy and a lot of reloading to do. I think we have the edge in coaching but NS has the edge in athletes...

This was the main point I was trying to make in my post.
I wasn't meaning to say Katy ALWAYS starts slow. I was trying to make a comparison to 2003 with a reloaded team playing against a team that has Katy outnumbered in the athlete department.

And on the Joseph/Johnston note. Johnston would have beat Clear Lake in the R3 Final in '04 and maybe had a different outcome in the '05 State Game.

The 03' team was as talented as 07' i truly believe that. But after losing Murphy the captain of a defense it took a long time to find a combination that matched. Half way through Triche stepped in and did a good job. Lufkin was a great team and could have done that to Northshore that year.

In 05' would Johnston lost to SV before state like he did in 02'. Joseph is the best defensive mind in the state. What did Johnston do. Did he call any plays?

I went through that program, Johnston brought the attitude and was a great motivator. He was great at bringing kids to there full potential. But as an X's and O's Joseph is the mastermind.
