Not many real-world applications at the moment except maybe the "wow" factor at a museum or history class at a university. I could see somewhere down the road if the costs were driven down tremendously this replacing traditional globes in classrooms... which be really awesome. I am pretty impressed by the technical side... the lens is used to not only project the image but also detects an enormous amount of inputs (touches) at the same time... which alleviates the need for outside projection. This is pretty easy on a flat surface but when bend that flat surface into a sphere it gets more difficult.
