I personally hope that IKE will win against Hightower, because if they don't it can cause a swing in morale for the kids. I think it will be a back and forth game much like Humble vs. IKE last season.

IKE over the last couple of years has been very talented, yet the early losses have taken a toll and a mood setter for the rest of the season. I truly believe had IKE beaten Humble last season during week 0, they would of gone 10-0 and on their way to a state championship in 07. Why? Because the coach even admitted it took him a while to get out of that slump mood put on by the loss to Humble. If you watched IKE the previous week against NS...you could tell the wind was out of their sails...they never bounced back completely...it continued on to Lukfin. Finally...they faced a weaker opponent and gained confidence again and showed their true colors at the end of the season. This season, they are in a bit more of a competitive district with the Humble Schools...All of which are deeper talent wise then the Spring Branch schools...a drop in morale could garner them a loss from 1 to all Humble ISD schools.

I depend on IKE being the cream of the crop, the competition pushes Humble to get Amped for district play(fans mostly)...something thats been lacking sense 2005 when Westfield left the district.

I think Hightower will win, but that is me siding with the part of me that doesn't want to be wrong...Don't get me wrong, a Win over Hightower should be expected by IKE fans...They are capable of making Hightower look silly.

I personally think that hightower will edge them out...and enter the regular season respectfully with a 2-2 Record.

hightower has the talent and speed to really test Loston and Co....It will be a fun one to watch.

I think this is the year this group of great athletes finally rise to the top in their senior year. They took their lumps as freshmen and sophmores, were very good their junior season, and the cream will rise to the top as seniors. Although the IKE versus Hightower is a very good matchup, I believe BIG IKE wins by a greater margin than most fans will expect.

Kenny Guiton, one of Houston's better quarterbacks last year as a junior, will have three tall, very fast, and very talented receivers to throw to in Gregory Timmons, Jazz Reynolds, and Craig Loston. Hightower will have a good D, but I just don't think they can cover every IKE receiver. Plus, throw in Curtis McGregor with his combined talents as a receiver and running back plus Guiton can run too, Hightower will not be able to concentrate on just the pass or run. IKE will have some BIG BIG plays against the Hurricanes.

I believe a lot of local high school football fans will be very surprised by IKE's defense this year. Almost all of the defensive line and backs return from last year and they each now have one or more seasons of starting experience under their belt. IKE is adding a couple of young and talented linebackers to go along with the returning starters on D. We anticipate the D to step it up several notches from last year to complement IKE's explosive offense.

This team was very excited about bringing THE SWOOP back to campus last season. This year, they fully realize this IKE team has the golden opportunity to SOAR LIKE AN EAGLE! The IKE players are not about to let each other down.

This should be one of the best games in week zero in the Houston area. Both of these teams should be ranked in the top 5 in Houston, if not the top ten when the rankings come out later on this month.

I cant really say who will win this game because it will be the first for both teams under new coaches. Shane Hallmark, formerly defensive coordinator at Hightower, takes over for Gene Johnson, who headed over to Cypress Ranch.

Hallmark will continue to run the spread offense behind three year QB starter AJ Highsmith, who led his team to the area quaterfinals as a sophomore and the regional finals as a junior. Hightower has five returnees back on offense and eight back on defense, and this years defense appears to rival the Hightower D's of 2003 and 2004, which finished first in greater Houston in fewest yards allowed and second in fewest points allowed.

Lotson will have his hands full with hurricane WR Darius Johnson, who has size and speed to go along with his 12 td receptions last season. RB Landon Hamilton is a slasher, but has blazing speed once he gets in the open.

The defense is led by hard hitting FS Colton Valencia, who is being recruited by Texas, USC, LSU and all of the other major schools, and all three starting LB's from the regional final loss to North Shore return as well. Hightower is a tad bit undersized on D, but they are lightning quick and will lay the hat.

Hightowers main advantage will be on special teams, as K Jake Kane has 60 yard FG distance and will make touchbacks all season.

Again, its way too early to call...both teams will show nothing in their respective scrimmages the week before they play, with Hightower taking on another top team in the Pearland Oilers....

I will give Hightower the slight advantage going in due to it being a game at Hall stadium, on their home campus.
