You've been breathing way too much of the southerly wind flow of pollution coming from Pasadena, Deer Park, and LaPorte

Goose Creek Memorial will take you down.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit, despite Lee's lack of experience this year.

Lee does have a regular season winning streak on North Shore to protect after all. :)

Would it be that big of a surprise for Seven Lakes to beat Lee?
Lee is picked to come in 4th, barely edging out powerhouses Sterling and Channelview.

If Lee had an experienced qb, then I would say they have as good a shot as anybody in the district to beat North Shore, but Olin has run into a dry spell after 6 straight D1 caliber qb's. I think the Ganders are going to try to establish the running game more this year. I don't think they have a choice really.

Lee still has the athletes to score on a lot of teams. The depth and the lack of experience at qb will be the keys.

The defense will not be as good as last year I don't think. The defensive backfield will be very talented, but the front 7 lost a lot of talent.

An Olin coached team can give anybody fits. He is a good coach and has put a solid product on the field every year. What happened to Lee's move to 4A
or is that to happen after this season or, even at all?

They could eventually drop down in classification I think. I think all of the kids that decided to stay at Lee despite being zoned elsewhere are what is keeping Lee in 5a right now.

Those power houses from the 60's have all dropped down - Galena Park, Texas City, LaMarque and possibly Lee. Interesting the way that occurs.
I just remember the original "Little SW Conference" comprised all of those teams.

There may not be many Lee fans here, but I will throw out what I know here either way for those planning to catch Lee this year.

Practice should start next Monday for Lee, because we had spring practice this year.

Looks like Olin has decided to go with Tim Jirrells at quarterback. He's the better passer, Jarret Havins being the better athlete overall. Havins will line up at the slot receiver if Jirrells stays at qb. Jahwran Goode, a college level receiver if he stays eligible and healthy, will be at wide receiver with probably Trace Theiss at the other receiver slot. Sophomores Williams and Mcguire could also compete for time and are good athletes.

CJ Mixon will be at running back after being on varsity as a freshman last year. He broke his leg after one game last year unfortunately. He is a good athlete and should be capable there.

The line will have three year starter Austin Riley at one tackle spot, junior Tim Smith is a returning starter at the other tackle spot. Xavier Ruben is another junior that started some last year at guard. Those three average about 6'3" 280. They should all play somewhere in college. The other two slots are unknowns to me.

I'll get back with the defensive side at a later date.

I have a dilemma....I'm a specialist in Goose Creek CISD and travel to the majority of the campuses each day.....do you think it would be in poor taste for me to wear my Mustang jersey??

Just kidding!

I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Olin last school year as he held the door open for me coming out of the media center. What a nice man. I let him know I was a NS alumni and he talked to me about our rough schedule we have coming up.

WOW a believer! It has been a long two years, but I think that this is going to be a good year for the Spartans. I am predicting 7-3, making the playoffs. The talent is there to move the ball and be successful, and Scott Joseph has the defense flying around and hitting. This will be a breakout year for the program.

I'm a tiger fan and on another site I predicted 7-3 for Seven Lakes and everyone thought I was smoking. I just have a gut feeling about the spartans, the could have won 4 games last year but feel victim to youth and lack of experience...Should have beaten Clements and Dulles...plus I'm a little biased because O'keefe was my DB coach in High School....he has the resources and the experience returning and I just have a feeling he will get it done.

Yeah everyone is taking the Spartans lightly. A writer from the Katy Sun called their success in the 7on7 tournament "surprising" or "unexpected" or something like that. Texas Prep Insider ranked them 51st in the 64 team field. It is just a case of not knowing and not watching the kids and the program grow. O'Keefe is a really good coach and is expected to rely on his passing game this season rather than his natural tendency to grind out a 14-10 defensive battle as he has been known to do throughout his career. He has the power to win some 35-33 games instead, and we all hope that opposing teams will overlook Seven Lakes this year.

Alright, alright...
To get back to the lecture at hand here....:D

Now, Lee's defense....

The Ganders have back 7 guys that started at some point last year. They are losing dt JT Cleveland, de Rakim Cleveland and ilb Anthony Gray, which is a pretty sizable chunk of the defense.

What they have back are Zac Zellars, who started as a sophomore and was out for all but 2 games last year as a junior. He wil start and be productive at one end. Darren Montgomery started some as a junior last year with all the injuries. Donovan Raymond started at the other end spot because of all the injuries. He is undersized for end, but not sure if he will stay on the line or move back to linebacker.

At the linebacker slots they have outside linebackers Collin Bieschke and Treion Murray back, both started last year. Bieschke is a senior and Murray a junior. Murray is on the sprint relay team, so he has speed, although a bit undersized. In the defensive backfield you have Trenton Warren, who started as a sophomoe last year, back to man one spot. Thomas Bates, UH commit, will lock down a position back there. Who plays safety and corner this year is something I don't know at the present.

My starting lineup would look like this.

de Zellars
dt Montgomery
de Raymond
olb Murray
ilb Avila
ilb George
olb McGuire
cb Bates
cb Jackson
ss Bieschke
fs Warren

That's without seeing them practice and knowing who all may have transferred or what not. I'll have a better feel for it once the practices roll around.

OK, let's do it your way. On offense, Seven Lakes returns one offensive lineman, senior Devin Shaw. He has started for two years on the varsity. Shaw is at OT, standing 6'5" and weighing in around 315 (depending on when his last meal was). He has been working hard and is getting a lot of good looks from several D-1 programs.

Senior quarterback Dalton Livingston and senior WRs Anthony Kendrick and Steven McCormack have all started for two varsity seasons. Junior WR Christian Duda started last year. The 6'4" Kendrick has committed to play his college football at Kentucky, while McCormack, who ran a 4.5 in cleats on grass at the UTEP camp, is holding an offer from Army. At 6'1" and 190, Livingston has thrown for over 2400 yards and 18 TDs, while running for 7 more scores. He has received the attention of South Florida, Central Florida, Texas Tech, UH and SMU.

Here is the link from 5A Texas Football that says the Spartans have the 9th ranked recieving corps in the state:

http://www.5atexasfootball.com/GridironGuide08/08unitrankings.htm

The Spartans also will also enjoy having three very good running backs in senior Dominik Harris and juniors Leekus Green and Ellix Rome. The Spartans do have holes to fill on the offensive line, but Cameron Rison looks to be the starter at TE. He is a good blocker who had a great summer catching the ball in 7on7.

On defense, the Spartans return ILB Zach Voss, an all district selection for the past two years. Voss is 6' and 220 and a vicious hitter. The other ILB, junior Brad Snowden, started last year. Other returning starters are senior safety Lyle Beloney and 6'2" senior CB Clay Almeida. The other mention should go to NT Jacob Salida. At 6' and 285, he looked in the spring to be the immovable object that the Spartans' 3-4 defense needs to compete in 5A.

Well, I can't really tell you much about Seven Lakes. I've never seen them play. I'm sure it will be a good game.

I'm reluctant to really say much about Lee either at this point. I will have a better grasp on things once I see a few practices.

Lee seems to be a lot different than most other programs. Anywhere else you would have a good idea of who is playing from who played last year, who is on jv and freshman, etc. Lee has so many guys quit or move or get kicked off the team rom year to year, you never know what you're going to get.

Nice looking team there.
That receiver looks like a stud.

I don't think Lee will be out executing them any time soon. Lee has more speed than Seven Lakes, but speed isn't always the deciding factor.

Should be a good game.

Yeah, the big guy, #9, is the one committed to Kentucky. They want to use him as a "tweener" - sometimes at TE, sometimes at WR. He has grown up thinking he was going to play college basketball, but there are a lot more 6'4', 220 lb. basketball prospects than WRs out there. #3 is the guy who has been offered by Army. He has been clocked sub-4.5 several times and is crazy. Will dive for anything. We are excited that the coach says he wants to focus on that part of our game. I know that Lee has a history of putting it up, so this should be fun for the spectators and players alike.

The Ganders travel to Orange this weekend from what I hear to take on the LCM Bears.
I should hope that Lee does pretty well.
They were without their top two playmakers on offense against Deer Park, so the offense was atrocious, with atrocious not really being a strong enough word.
The defense was extremely quick and impressive though, so that's something to take from the scrimmage.
