View Full Version : Finally getting my tablet
Dell released the Latitude XT Tablet back in December of last year which has N-Trig Technology enabling multi-touch (up to 10) and pen input technology but the problem was Vista doesn't have built-in support for multi-touch and, up until yesterday, Dell had no specific drivers making use of the multi-touch features so it was basically a glorified REGULAR tablet (1 input at a time). Well... the drivers are now available and my tablet is being shipped. I already have a sale lined up for my Thinkpad, which I really liked, but I can't afford to have both. I am pretty excited. Should be here some time next week.
Here is a quick video demonstrating some of the NEW features.

And for those Mac fans out there... here is a video of a Mac tablet. It DOES exist, and has existed for a while now.

This kind of stuff is the future of laptops/notebooks regardless of what software platform you choose to support.

It would normally cost $2,500 the way I have it configured but I know an employee who is getting it to me for $2,000 and I have a 20% off code that I applied as well so after all that non-sense it comes to around $1,800. Expensive, but a pretty good price.

That's some pretty coo stuff... I've long wanted Apple to do one... Maybe soon... Rumor has it that they are working on a device larger than an iPhone and smaller than a laptop... Maybe that's what it is... The Apple tablet you referenced is a third-party adaptation of an apple laptop...
I like that multi-touch and agree it's the future interface...

I like the idea... Hurry and get it implemented folks!

They have been rumoring to be doing that forever and you are right, that tablet is actually a Axiotron Modbook. They take a Macbook Pro or a Macbook and add a Wacom Active Digitizer behind the screen. I really hope Dell, or someone in general, comes out with some Apps like the one shown in the video. The technology is there, now the drivers are there, now just need some cool applications. I am pretty excited. It will be like having a bigass 12.1" iPod touch. Gonna have to stock up on the microfiber.
Is this the same thing that they showed about a year ago demonstrating tables at restaurants? You order directly from the table? Looking at a lot of the scrolling stuff, isn't that done on the iphone?
