View Full Version : The DNC and Obama speak....special 2 for 1 offer

Well, for all you who think I'm a card carrying ultra conservative, I just got my first mailing from the DNC and Obama asking for my financial help to "break the gridlock in Washington".

I'll skip the meat of the letter as it was typical political speak meant to roust the faithful followers into action...typical stuff, no matter which party you are referring to.

I'll focus on the donation page where it gives the details of how your precious dollars will be utilized. (BTW, this is specifically a mailing from the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee......DSCC)

Obama's quote is, "Stand with me now and support the DSCC so we can elect the biggest Democratic Senate majority in decades - and bring about the change Americans so desperately need". Typical stuff.

Here is the kicker, the donation page says, "Every Dollar you contribute by August 31 will be matched and doubled. How Your gift is doubled. For every dollar contributed by August 31 as a result of this request, a group of Democratic senators will raise an additional dollar - effectively doubling your gift".

It shows where you can check boxes where your donations of 40, 55, 100, 250, 1000, 2500 dollars or OTHER will double your total donation, thanks to the efforts of these senators........

1. If, just in case, no one gave a single dollar, would these Democratic Senators not raise any money at all?.....out of spite, maybe, just to show the faithful who's boss....

2. If, just in case, the donations were record setting, can they guarantee to raise the needed amount so that the donors contribution can truly be doubled, as advertised?

3. What if, just in case, the contributions came in the last two weeks of August and they had to really hurry to raise the money and couldn't....how would they save face?

4. If, in anticipation of many donations, the senators raised tons of cash, but only a limited number of donations came in, say, half the amount raised by the senators, would they then return the half of the money raised that was raised on the idea that it would be matching funds, or would they keep it all under false pretenses?

5. Does anyone with something resembling gray matter actually believe that their donation is the trigger for the amount, accuracy, motivation, and disposition of the matching money raised and that their donation is the motivation that got the senators out stumping for funds to begin with?

6. Does anyone with gray matter think that there are US Senators who are sitting around waiting for donations to come in so they can get out and stump for matching funds, or that they will only get out and stump for them if the doantions come in, or that anything they do, donation wise, is monitored by anyone in the DNC other than the letter opener person who stacks their check in a pile to go to the bank?

I've always said that the Democrats cater their whole message to those too ignorant to understand that for every dollar the Dems give them, they'll take back 2 and tax the rest...this is just proof that they indeed cater to the ignorant, and I'm not one of them, because I get it.....do you?

Moveon.org, the foreign money machine will provide the matching funds in each Dem Senators name.

The bagmen are very busy right now moving cash.

Well....this thread is VERY popular....isn't it? :D

Wonder why it's being untouched?

Nobody cares?

Sorry, that's what the whole movement is about right, caring.....making change....so why the silence from both sides about a thread that brings facts forward about campaign finance and how it's being conducted?

Well, I got my John McCain letter today, I'll start a thread on it so people can't say I'm attacking Obama and being unfair.....

Carry on with your silence....it's quite deafening.

Could be because ALMOST everyone knows the 2-for-1 deal is working...;)

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/07/obama-shatters-mccains-fundrai.html

After hearing that John McCain broke his own monthly fundraising record in June, Barack Obama's campaign couldn't contain its own news that the Democratic contender raised twice McCain's June total. Obama hauled in $52 million last month, collecting twice his own May total, in addition to besting McCain.

If you had read my posts, you would know that the 2 for 1 campaign was for re-electing Democratic senators, sponsored by Obama. It has nothing to do with Obama's fund raising.

My post has nothing to do with effectiveness of the campaign....mine was on ethics and the accountability of raising cash based on matching the contributions of individuals and the possible ways for it to go wrong and be false advertising.....unethical if you will.

Come on, guys and gals, actually read my posts and see what I'm talking about so I don't have to do this and explain the obvious....;)

BTW, the 2 for 1 campaign just started.....who knows if it is working.....you got some info..... ;)

McCain spent 20 Mil last month, in the next few months before the convention you'll see him dump virtually all of the money he has fund raised to the convention. Since he accepted public financing he can't spend any of the money he raises after the convention so it wouldn't be smart not to go on a major add buy now. So far Obama's only major buy will come next month, he just dropped 6 mil on really pricey ad time during the Olympics. Because he did not accept public financing, the first candidate in modern history not to, he can spend whatever he raises, whenever he wants. McCain from after the convention until November will only have 84 Mil to spend from public financing. There's a good chance were gonna see Obama raise that amount in a single month come Sept or Oct.

And as for the ethics of the whole fund raising blitz it seems perfectly fine to me. The FEC now has stringent rules in place regarding where and when candidates can raise money, where any amount at or over 200$ has to be disclosed, this thanks largely in part due to the McCain Feingold bill. Obama's campaign also will not take a single cent from any PAC or anyone tied to a lobbying firm. The great news for Obama and any of his supporters is that 73% of that 52 Million from June came from people giving donations under 200$, 45% from donations of 50$ or under. That likely means that all those people will be donating again before November, I know I'm one of them and will be likely chipping in another 20$ when I have the change to spare.

Did you read the deatils of the 2 for 1 thing.....many chances for improprieties, or the appearance of improprieties......maybe good marketing, but not a chance I'd take....but that's just me.
