There will probably be as many teams in the playoffs this year as were in last year...Smithson Valley, Madison, Roosevelt, I believe for sure...if New Braunfels can get adjusted to 5A, they might make a run...

I think you're right about NB. I think the last time they came up to 5a, they won in 265. Maybe it was the second to last time. In any case, I think the Unicorns will be vying for the top spot with Madison and SV.

Don't count out Roosevelt - very young team last year with very good talent.

I think everyone would agree with you on their talent level. But from what a lot of us saw last year, their games - especieally when they were down- degenerated into street ball. They will have to jump a few levels in the maturity department to excel this year.

This district will not run over 25-5A like they have in the past with the weak AISD schools with the addition of the Pflugerville schools it just got 100% tougher.

I would agree 254A got better with Pflugerville but they weren't weak before. They just couldn't handle Judson and SV on a consistent basis. No one else in Region 4 could either.Westlake,Bowie and Austin High along with Pflugerville are all good teams that could compete in any district.265A was in it'sn world for several years.Things are definatley evening out now.

When exactly was the last time Austin High had won a playoff game? 1940 or 1950? I can't remember too much success on Bowie's part either.

I think they both had pretty good teams last year-just ran into SV and Judson.Bowie has run into Judson many times.Depends on what you consider success.Has Pflugerville always won playoff games? I don't know their past records.Westlake has always been pretty strong.

Judson did not become 5A till 1980-81 season, they went 7-3 that year...but can't remember if New Braunfels was still in 26-5A, but I remember my brother playing them in '76 when Roosevelt (remember that cause my brother was the kick returner and got his bell rung in the Roosevelt vs. San Marcos game that year)was playing Seguin, San Marcos and I think New Braunfels...so with all that said..."I don't know if Judson played NB, sorry for a long winded answer":confused:

1997 - New Braunfels 28, Judson 7 ... and I know NB has beaten Judson twice in the 70's because I remember reading it in some Unicorn football book a long time ago... but I wasnt alive then so i wouldnt know personally
as for SV, NB has an overwhelming record against them, but none of those wins have been since SV started being really good. I think the most recent NB win over SV was in 1995 or so.

It looks like Judson has played NB twice...in 1996 judson won , I think 41-10 and in 1997 NB won 28-7...think that is the only two times they played each other...

Has Madison ever played NB before? If so, was it after Coach Streety left NB for Madison? If not, it would be interesting to see Streety's first game coaching against his old team.

1996- Madison 17, New Braunfels 10
1997- New Braunfels 21, Madison 14
Streety was already in Madison and coached against former assistant Tim Kingsbury.

Yes I remember that 41-10 game, that game was never in reach for NB... as for NB/Judson in the 1970's in going to see if I can dig up that book in the NB library, cuz i wanna say NB and Judson tango'ed in the 1970's too.

Judson and NB played in 1974 and 1975 with NB winning both contests 27-6 and 20-12 respectively. It was Judson's 1st year in the highest classification. The two met agains in district play in 96 & 97 with Judson winning 41-10 and NB taking the 97 game at NB 28-7. Do believe NB had a fairly decent QB that year.

Very doubtfull there will be 4 265A teams like last year.Judson will be there but they are 275A.SV,Madison and Reagan lost way to much offensive firepower to predict the same success.Last year was unusual as far as how good all of those teams were at one time. While 265A is still very tough we will have to wait and see just how good.

Great another thread where all of the Churchill and Johnson fans can come and hate on each other all week. Haven't we had enough of the Jaguar vs Chargers talk for one season. Can we talk about something like SV vs Madison, I mean someone has to have something to say about this game in two weeks, right?
I think the Madison/SV game will be better than I thought orginally. I still think SV has a problem with Askew, but have not heard a lot from him this year yet. Maybe Mads is savin him.

Askew has been very consistent this year. He gets his touches and makes his impact. Don't you worry, I'm sure you guys will be given a healthy dose.

Mind you, I thought Madison was clearly the better team at the beginning of the year. SV's defense is very good, while their offense seems to be getting better by the week.
Get SV to start playing above their age (cut down on the stupid penalties), and I think the Rangers are a lot better match against Madison now, than earlier in the season.

My synopsis of 265A
1. Madison-obviously very explosive.Does the QB have as much "moxy" as Erlich did if he is called on to pull them through himself. We will see./The Defense can be thrown on and a elusive QB can hurt them so it seems.
2. Reagan-only loss to a very good Cinco Ranch team.Walls is proving to be very efficient with the passing game and of course can run. That defense is good up the middle.A great safety(McCall) who might be able to handle Askew some. Not sure they have the speed sideline to sideline to handle Green or Roosevelt on the corners.Handled Sv but they are not as fast.
3.SV-defense has played great in most all phases.Interesting stat vs NB-Forester was 22-26 but only 145 yds-great tackling and very few yds after the catch.Superb special team play.Offense is a work in progress still.I am very biased but think Jacob Brown will win a big game for them before the year is over.Mathews and Hilston are getting open-hope it continues.
4.NB-I still like this team alot-if Wort get's healthy. They remind me alot of SV.Key game vs TR at home that I believe will determine their playoff fate.
5.Roosevelt-my alma mater-This week starts their audition for respect. They have the athletes. Can't wait to see what happens.
6. Mac-good team but I think they were a little over hyped. But if they beat
SV this week who knows.
Can anyone score enough to challenge Madison?will Sv's offense continue to improve? Will Reagan continue their offensive/defensive balance? Does TR live of to it's pre season hype-These are the questions after week 4.Some really good matchups left to play.

There are two really great games this weekend. I think Mac is pretty darned good. They could, if they are able to contain SV's offense a little, give SV a run for their money.
Big Ticket Game, Roosevelt vs. Reagan. What a fantastic match-up right when the district needed it. There are still so many questions floating around, these two games have a lot of answers to them.

New Braunfels did and I think SV,Reagan and Roosevelt possibly could play good enough defense to keep them in the game. But you are going to have to hold them to roughly 28 or less and score 30!IMO
I think only turnovers can keep them at 4 tds or less.
The one thing i do know from experience is that SV has one opponent to concentrate on this week and that is Mac.We better be ready for them because over the years they have given us very good games and I dont think this year will be like the last to years.I think they will give us a game.

The SV game is always one the Madison community circles on the calendar because the games are always good ones.
The SV program is phenomenal with Hill at the helm. Besides, the call to throw the ball late last year in the PO vs. Madison, I think he has coached to perfection. But hey, I'm just the specatator, and only that for a reason.
Hill's second half adjustments are like the Patriots after a bye week. The success of the program starts from the ground up from the fans, to pee-wee and pop warner. There is so much pride in the community and I think it shows up in every game that these kids play. I always root for SV when they aren't trying to take off the helmets with the orange M on it.

This years SV team knows they aren't the favorites and will not take anything for granted. They know 100% that each game will be a fight.Yea-maybe Johnson,Churchill and Lee may not go 10 rounds but still a fight.
The one thing that has impressed me over the short time following SV is that I have never seen anyone "take a play off".It just doesn't happen. They play hard for 48 minutes and then some.

I agree!!! SV has always had individual talent, just not this year as much!!!
