This has not been decided yet. Depends on who you believe. It is based on positive points. Right now, Churchill has 14 positive points based on 14-0 win over Judson and Reagan has 21 positive points based on 35-14 win over Churchill. Judson has zero positive points, but plays Reagan on Friday night. The maximum number of positive points you can get is 21 no matter how badly you beat someone. Question is: Does positive points seperate the team with the least amount from the other two or does it award the spot to the one out of the three who has the most positive points?
Judson says district minutes support that if they win by 15 or more Friday night, they're in. NEISD says district minutes support that Judson must win by 21 or more to get in (maybe). Sounds like the district minutes are vague and it depends on who's interpretation is accepted as the correct version. I cannot imagine that either interpretation will be accepted without a fight or maybe even intervention by the UIL. All of this, or course, is assuming that Churchill beats Lee, which is a fairly safe assumption.
From what I've heard, Judson's interpretation is the most fair. They say that given a tie between Reagan, Judson and Churchill, that the team with the fewest positive points is automatically eliminated and then it goes back to the head-to-head matchup between the remaining two teams. If that is the case, then Judson needs only to beat Reagan by 15 points or more to get the last 26-5A playoff spot. If Judson wins by 13, then the Rockets are automatically eliminated and then it goes back to head-to-head between Churchill and Reagan, which Reagan won.
Using NEISD's interpretation, Judson could beat Reagan 41-21 and Reagan could walk off the field in celebration of their first playoff birth. (Here is the maybe part) Judson could possibly even defeat Reagan 63-0 and still only have 21 positive points which would leave them tied with Reagan in the positive points category. Then what?
No matter which way you look at it, it is impossible for Churchill to get in. So which interpretation should be used? This obviously will be decided before the teams step on the field Friday night and it will be interesting to see the outcome. Which way do you see as the most fair?

I thought all districts that used point differential took it across the board. In a 3-way tie, you play the other 2 teams and it should be like this:
Judson -14
Reagan +21
Churchill +14 and -21 = -7
That's why I said Judson needs to win by 18 to get to +4 and make Reagan drop to +3.
What you said could be true, but it's a weird way of doing it.

You are counting positive and negative points. It used to be that way Lonny, but this tended to lead to teams running up the score intentionally. In fact, in the 80s when Danny Padron was one of the offensive coaches at Clark, he took a timeout with a few seconds left to get one more score in against Jay, who at the time was down about 20 points and this lead to a coach punching or trying to punch Padron out after the game. It was ugly.
The key to this current deal is the 21 point cap on positive points, so there is no way for Judson to surpass Reagan in positive points. JISD and NEISD both have their points on this issue. Which interpretation is most fair though? I beleive Judson's is, because it is a way to get back to the head-to-head, which is the most fair. If Reagan had only beat Churchill by 7 and Judson beats Reagan by 10, then Reagan would be eliminated and then it goes back to the head to head between Judson and Churchill, which Churchill won. And if grandma had a beard she would have been grandpa.

Really to much energy being spent to see if an average judson team at 5-4 makes the playoffs.
Even if they squeak in. Done in 1. What a Judson fan to do? :D

I did not think they could do it having to beat them by 18, but 21 they do not have the offense for that. The defense can keep them in this but the offense would have to play lights out and that has not happened all year.

Sorry 88, I still remember the late 80's and early 90's pretty well, so it does just feel like a few years ago that NISD complained their way to playoff victories.
Bottom line is this is the 3rd spot in the district (albeit a competitive one and probably tops in the state).
You know Churchill has to be mad. If they had this knowledge a couple of weeks ago who's to say they wouldn't have tried for a late TD against Judson to get them into the tie-break scenario. I can't believe this is the best way for a three-way tie to be decided.

There is a very funny irony to the saga of the two-tier playoff plan the first year it was used. Aldine, winner of the "small" 5A Finals, had a larger enrollment than the Dennis Parker-coached Marshall, TX winner of the "large" 5A Finals.
Now the ultimate irony:
The two-tier system proposal was speerheaded by Northside ISD because of what they felt to be the unfair enrollment advantage of Judson. Interestingly, the first school to benefit from the two-tier system as the third-place team in the district that had the Northside ISD teams were the Southwest (ISD) HS Dragons (primarily by virtue of a win over a then-undefeated Jay), coached by none other than once and future Judson coach Jim Rackley. I got a real laugh about that at the time, and I made sure to congratulate Rackley on the accomplishment (albeit 10 years later) the first time I met him just a few weeks before he was named Head Coach to replace DW.

The first year of the 64-team format was 1982---the year that Judson beat then-top dog Churchill for the first time. The first year for the 96-team format was 1990---the year of Aldine, Marshal, TX and the Southwest Dragons that I was referring to previously.

Heard from the Judson ticket booth guy today that the magic number is indeed 21 for Judson to get a postseason appearance. It should be interesting if Judson manages to have a lead of 14 in the 4th quarter. Does Reagan then try a time consuming ground game and play for the 14 point loss instead of passing to win the game?
On a side note, I didn't realize how many kids Wagner took from Judson, the parking lot is probably less than half as full as when I was there.

Judging from your post, I'm guessing you haven't seen a Reagan game. (I'm not insulting or anything like that, just going to tell you how we play.) Reagan - because it is a running team usually goes a long with a time consuming ground game. Some scoring drives will take almost a quarter. Against Churchill, because we sometimes scored so fast, we weren't able to establish the time consuming drives. But when we played say SV, we controlled the ball quite a bit.

Well, 5 years ago is when we opened and Judson beat us to the tune of 40-7....should be an interesting game. Judson putting everything together for one last stand. I really don't think your going to have worry about the plus points for Judson in this one! If SA Reagan plays like they did Saturday against Churchill, then Rackley will be selling hotdogs at the Alamodome again this year!
I'm still scratching my head and asking myself HOW did Churchill beat Judson? I mean Churchill looked horrible in the 2nd half!
If there are injuries on the Rocket squad will they be ready this weekend and will it make a difference? I'm hoping the Rockets overcome and succeed! ITS JUST NOT THE SAME WITHOUT THE ROCKETS AT BIG PARTY!!!

Had Reagan beat them by 13 or less they would still have a chance. If this were a tie for 1st or 2nd they would have a chance if Judson lost or won by less than 14. But since this is a tie for 3rd, only 1 team will go. Reagan has the most points already, and only Judson has a chance to have more positive points than them.

Its gonna be HUGE. Either Reagans first win against Judson AND their first trip to the playoffs OR Reagan loses again to Judson BUT still makes playoffs OR Reagan once again loses to Judson and misses out on possible first playoff appearance.
If Reagan wins it will be the first time since 1976 that Judson hasn't been over .500 AND Judson will miss the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 years, only the 3rd since 1982.

If only the 4 playoff teams were here this year. SV, Judson, Madison, and Reagan all have good teams that could go far in the playoffs. Churchill, Roosevelt, and MacArthur all have teams that could do decent in the playoffs, and would be district champs in other districts. Lee is the only team in 26-5A that doesn't fit in, but then again they have that magnet school so part of their population can't even play. They should be 4A.

SAISD wanted Lee in their district but I think Lee would become a powerhouse there....Mac I think might've imploded because they might've known that they weren't playing for anything. Personally, I'd take a 13-10 Judson win. Sure it would be nice to make the playoffs, but Judson's had their glory there.
THEY HAVE 28 STRAIGHT WINNING SEASONS! That is the third longest consecutive winning seasons streak EVER in Texas HS football. That is worth playing for. That is not something that can be started over easily.
So Rockets, bottom line: Get it together and WIN THE GAME! You do not want to be known as the first group to NOT have a winning season since the legendary Diamond J was first slapped on the helmet in 1977. There have been Diamond J teams that have not made the playoffs, but NONE that have not had a winning season.
Take pride in who you are and the great history of your program and WIN THE DAMN GAME! DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE SCORE, JUST PLAY HARD AND WIN!

They have finally adjusted to the different offense, most of the injured players are back, and they have been told that they don't want to be known as the ones that ended this streak. They KNOW they don't want to have the WORST Judson record since the 2-7-1 season in '76, all they have to do is play hard and it will come. But as a player at Judson you set your goals on state, not on a winning season. If you win state you will have a winning record, but that is not a primary goal. I know there are teams that shoot for a winning season, but Judson shoots higher than that.

Wait, so if they lose it'll be a losing season for them? Gee, that may be pretty bad...and definately an inspiration. In the event we do lose, I want it to be close so we make the playoffs while preserving Rocket Pride and Honor....but I also want us to beat Judson for the first time.

Like I said for Judson on Sunday: The Rockets need an all-out Apollo 13-style "Tiger Team" effort from the fans, the support and spirit groups and above all the team. The exam's on Friday.

75% of the band kids I talk to don't want to go to the playoffs. They said they want marching season to be over. I just tell them to shut up and quit the band if they don't want to go to the playoffs.

If that's true then this might explain why the Band has seemingly acted disengaged from what's taking place on the field in recent years. As a former Rocket Band member, I find that kind of attitude pretty pathetic if indeed what you're saying is true. In recent times, in registering my disappointment in their lack of true and original contribution to the goings on in the game---in comparison with earlier times---I've had to bite my tongue at times in not saying something along the lines of wondering why they even bother to come to the game. Now, I will say it.
Sad....so, so, sad.....

They always complain that they don't even get to watch the game. I don't understand how this is when they are in the stands almost the whole time. Even if they are playing music, their eyes could wander over to the game. I have never been in a marching band so I don't know what its like, but they apparently dislike it a lot.

I have it from one inside source actually that this may very well be the case, in which case the attitude starts at the top. I remember two years ago in the last game of the season with Roosevelt, while TR was driving down to retake the lead, one of the Band directors decided that this was time to bring some members of what I presumed to be the Stage Band (or whatever it's called these days) down onto the track to "serenade" the crowd with a few non-football-related songs. In addition to being a rather bizarre move, it was downright rude and distracting, I thought as did several other people---some of which had kids (Seniors) in the band the year before. To me it almost seemed like some kind of in-your-face gesture for whatever reason. Even if it wasn't intended that way, that's certainly how some people could construe it.

Judging from your reply, I'm guessing you didn't read my post. (I'm not insulting or anything like that, just going to tell you how most teams play when behind by 2 TDs late in the game like the situation I presented.) You stated yourself that some drives take the better part or most of a quarter due to the ground game. If Reagan does find itself down 14 with 6 minutes left are they going to stick with that grind it out ground game that drains the clock? I would assume they would but I'm just saying it will be difficult to watch a team play to lose to win. Hopefully Judson will be up by 35 late in the 4th so it won't happen. :)

They definitely have an element of prejudiced people. They might have Klan loyaltists, especially with the German population of Comal County. I still say we should have some good proof instead of hearsay from friends.

Lonny their are a whole bunch of Germans in San Antonio. The Germans brought many good things to Texas, especially south central Texas. This whole discussion is about the white population at SV.Period.....SO lets just sumize because theres so many whites, that they must hate blacks ,and hispanics, etc. This is not uncommon for a hill country school in Texas.Boerne,Kerville,Fred,Dripping springs,Wimberley etc.The list goes on,thats just the way it is.Maybe everbody. but Whites dont like to live in the beautiful Texas hill country.

I was trying to play it down the middle. I said to not listen to just hearsay, but I'm not going to completely dismiss the notion that it exists because we all know it does. Bad feelings towards others exist everywhere, so I'm not trying to single out the Rangers fans. The Germans have done a lot of good for Texas. A good portion of the other race's population can't afford to live in the Hill Country. There has been a large-scale flood to the suburbs and the country by white people for a long time. Some do it to escape other races and some want privacy. Even the minorities I'm friends with don't want to live in the slums. They want to be middle class, too.

Reagan is 6-4, and won a heck of a lot more than last year. Clean upstanding school? Have you been in Reagan? Please, before you throw the envy thing at me....make sure you can actually use it.
