This has all the makings of a great game -- who takes it and why?

I say JT.. I just have issues with Longview.. But I guess it would be kind of kool for them to go all the way this year...

I still have to root for JT though..

I have a feeling Cujo will be up for this one. So I am going with my gut feeling and predict the Lions to Upset the Lobos in Longview by a TD.

John Tyler 28

Longview 21

I voted for Longview even though I smell an upset. This is a big game for Longview - and just icing on the cake for JT's great, but unpredicted run. I still think JT wants it more - and if the Lobos come out flat - something could be wrong in LTown - just not sure what.

I predict a great game with Longview refinding their inner spark and drive and just having too much for JT this year. The Lions will roar in the playoffs -- but I don't think they take down Longview at Lobo stadium.

Longview - 28
John Tyler - 21

Longview is do to play a great game and they are at home and they will be pumped up. I like Longview by at least 14!! At least!! If Jt wins this game i will be a believer that they are back. I do not see it happening. I actually think this one could get ugly. I will say 31-6

Yes, absolutely Longview should and will be up for this game - but they've played flat two games in a row - so, question marks can come in. Even if the JT kids want it more - Longview would have to play flat to lose IMO - and I don't see that happening - thus, my Lobo victory prediction.

PurpleNation

I know the Lobos will be up for this one but I believe the Lions are still playing for respect and they will leave it all on the field. The Lobos can not come out flat against Cujo pr JT will pull off the upset. I believe either win or lose for Longview they will turn it up a notch in the playoffs and take the Div 1 crown.

LongviewLobo209

Longview will show up for this one. Dont look for Coach King to show a whole lot, since we are about to go into the playoffs. They players will do what it takes to win. It could be a big defensive battle, because JT has defended the running game well. The difference will be a couple of big passing plays by Longview that will give them the victory.

My Prediction:
Longview - 24
John Tyler - 13

I'm envious of LV and JT. This will be such an exciting game. I'm almost tempted to go to your game instead of ours. I miss the old East Texas slug-fests, and this should be a great one. Good luck to both teams. No injuries.

I say Longview returns back to earth and utillizes the explosiveness they had in the first 7 games.

I don't want to make any predictions or have any expectations going into this game, I just want to sit back and watch (hopefully) what will be the best game of the year. However, if JT does happen to win, this game will be VERY VERY close and will come down to the last mins of the game...... probably with JT making a defensive stand.

The thing I'm worried about most is, if JT wins, I'm very afraid of a colossal letdown the next week in the playoffs.

Man I can't wait . . . can hardly sleep. If the Lobos are as pumped as I am, man watch out!! I am gonna (going to) stick with my original prediction of 38-13 . . . Why change at this stage of the game . . . Either way, I'll still be supporting JT, Marshall, Kilgore, Texas High, Jacksonville, Tatum, Gilmer, Daingerfield, Jefferson, Palestine, Canton, Van, Troup, Arp, Big Sandy, Harleton, New Diana, and Waskom; and oh yeah, LP of course, unless or until they play us . . . Good luck East Texas!! Let's power through the playoffs like last year - represent!! :D

JT, Cujo, the Lions. This team has nothing to lose. They have nothing to prove. They are where they are through hard work and determination. My gut tells me They win but my brain says to stick with a proven powerhouse over the last few years. Both teams have my respect and even my envy as they still get to play with the old East Texas teams. It reminds me of my old high school days. The atmosphere will be rockin. Good Luck to both teams. This one will be decided by a field goal and in the final seconds if my hunch is right. Longview will pull the win but they will have to fight for it.

Cant wait to hear how it turns out. Much Love to both teams!!!

Any guesses on what the new district will be? I'd love to have Lufkin back in good old 12-5A. Think of how much crazier that round-robin distrit would've been if JT had been this good a couple of years ago.

Oh man that would have been the toughest district in the state wait it already was even with 4 teams but if Cujo was a power then like they were in the 90's then man what a war that would have been.

I really feel that Cujo will win this one with defense. Plus John Tyler's massive O-Line might be able to wear down the smaller guys in green up front. Vondrell if the man among boys but I will go with Kerry Madoxx as the hero to win this game. I believe he has all the tools and with a couple of big play threats at WR Madoxx will get the job done.

Madoxx 200 All purpose yards

Vondrell 100 yards but on more then 20 carries.

Good analysis. I agree...Maddox will probably get good yardage, but I'll have to say that he gets sacked 3 times. Size is good, but Longview's speed off the edge is great.

My guess on Vondrell will be 20 carries for 150 yards and 3 TDs. But, I dont' think he's every had more than 20 carries in one game.....ever....

Yes Longview will come hard off the edges and if they rattle Madoxx then this one could go the big green's way. I see Ivory being the hero for Longview if they win but JT looks real good upfront but they have not faced the best backfield in Texas yet. What might be the deciding factor is the arm of Freemen if he is on then that will open up the running lanes for the best RB in Texas and McGee could have a big game. But my final prediction even though my brain saids Longview my heart feels that Cujo has resurected

L'view has been workin' too hard to let this one get by them. If they will begin thinking like they must win instead of they are going to win, this will not be that close. They have all the tools to make this one ugly. JT has had a great "welcome back" season, but The Lobos entered this year with destiny on their mind. I think they have something to prove going into the playoffs. Don't be surprised to see them dominate, but we will have to wait and see which Lobo team shows up.

I can see why many of you are putting confidence in JT, but I just got through talking with a JV player who said that they have been fired up since yesterday. He said that the practices the past few weeks have been too light and now they're killing them. They haven't been unloading on anyone in practice, but he said he could just see the pent up frustration. He says he thinks if Cartez doesn't knock someone into another timezone, he might have an aneurysm. There are just too many weapons to stop at once. David Robinson has really proven he is a deep threat, the heir apparent to Malcolm Kelly. If they get the party started with a few quick passes, the second they bite on the pass, Von or Chris will take it to the house. I donno...it just sounds to me like we're going to see a blowout.

Call me a homer...just my prediction

Tyler Lee.....in order of troubled season.... difficult schedule,
poor tackling, poor blocking, turnover plagued and key injuries.

Now as for the topic at hand....I've seen both of these teams play
in 2 games each and if anyone thinks this game will be a blowout
then they will be very sadly mistaken.

John Tyler has a very stout defense....probably MORESO than the
Lobo "D". Of course, JT hasn't faced an offense with Longview's
explosiveness.

With that being said, this game will be a 4 quarter war....count on it.

I'll take Longview....winning it late.... 24-21.

I played aganst against Lee all of my years in Highschool. I have seen what they have coming up and I know Coach Owens is a mastermind. Remember he took a team in 1995 that couldnt tie there cletes up and turned them into a national power and a State tittle contender every year. Owens knows what he is doing and that QB next year Marcus Jackson is not to shabby no he is not Hill but he brings an extra weapon with his feet. Plus you have Tyler Fleet back and you have Cuba coming back. Have a little pride Red Raiders with fans like you I know why they are 3-6. Lee will be back that JV runningback is a hoss.

I understand but we just don't know, people were saying that it might even be worse and I agreed with them since Jon Williams, Preston Hill, and Jason Williams all Div-1 Caliber (I think thats right). Anyways, were not too sure but I know Owens is one of the best coach in Texas but that doesn't always matter with that but matters with the players how hard they play. 3-6 wasn't Owens Fault, It was some of the players have been lazy for sure. I don't blame them, I encourage our team to go to playoffs again and have a challenge against Tyler John Tyler next year.

I have to go with Longview. Until 2 weeks ago, I thought they might march all the way to the title this year, now I am not so sure. I think alot of the good teams go thru a lull around week 7, knowing they are good, and anxious for the playoffs. They lose focus. The way JT has played this year, I think the Lobos will be wide awake for this one. Should be a great game!

Well thanks BG :)

JT's not back on top yet, however; we still have one more test to see just how good we really are.

I hate making predictions, but since everyone else is doing it, I shall say JT will win this one in convincing fashion: 2-0 :p

Seriously though, it seems like throughout this season, whenever two VERY good defenses face off against each other, the game turns into a barnburner and the points start racking up. So I really have no idea what the score will be even though I think it'll be very close and will be won by 8 pts or less. I honestly believe the team that has the most luck on Friday will come away with the victory.

I'll be waving at you and the rest of LV's posters from across the stadium, so watch for me ;) (I just wish we were allowed a whole side to sit on, it's not fair that we have to sit in what feels like a little corner section of the stadium :p )

Rclisle41....

I hope that your right....about it not coming down to a FG....but
JT is very formidable on defense....imo.

Look I'm a Longview fan/grad too and the fact Longview is at home
will be an advantage....to be sure.

Anyway....I've scanned this entire thread and unless I've missed it,
I haven't seen a score prediction from YOU....what do you say???

I say 31-21.

Yeah JT seems to always have one of the worst special teams i have ever seen. Especially the fg kicker!! They are right up there with Ike. That could kill them in the playoffs and in this game!!

I actually heard Smoaky say that JTs kicking game is pretty good with the exception of those field goals missed in the Kilgore game. It might not be as bad as we think.

Assuming you're talking about the name/chant Cujo, and not me personally....

In 1990, Odessa Permian came to Tyler as the defending State Champion on a 17 game winning streak. Well long story short, John Tyler beat Permian, and also countered Permian's "MOJO" chant with their own "CUJO" - obviously referring to Stephen King's rabid dog (which sorta fits since JT are the Lions...... yes I know a lion is a cat  ). Anyway, JT went on to go to the playoffs for the first time in 5 years, and so the nickname stuck, and became the "spirit" that propelled JT to be one of the best teams in the state in the 90's. If you had seen or been a part of some of the miraculous games JT had during that era (e.g. JT/PESH 1994, JT/Waco 2000), you'd understand everything that name can embody.

I'll be waving at you and the rest of LV's posters from across the stadium, so watch for me ;) (I just wish we were allowed a whole side to sit on, it's not fair that we have to sit in what feels like a little corner section of the stadium :p )yea, i agree Cujo...we should make the bands sit down on the track to create more room like they did this year at Texas-OU....wish we could meet some how, but i'm afraid of all of the people that will be there, it might not be possible.......have a safe trip

Some Lee fans are historically known for these kinds of things, cocky and misguided. They lived in JT's showdow for so many years and they thought they were over the hump, and were the rulers of Tyler, but fate reared it's ugly head a brought them crashing back down to Earth. Histroically good programs do have off times but they don't typically don't stay down for too long. Besides people do seemed to forget what highschool they went to, you know when a team is winning.

But this should be a great game....i think it will have a slow start with two good defensive teams....everyone has been questioning the Lobo defense but they were actually back in form last week...they are the top defense in the district. JT will score some point but not enought to keep up with LV, 27-14 Longview!!!!

15-20,000 is a BIT steep for a Lobos home game. I don't know where bleed got those numbers....The capacity for Lobo Stadium is just under 11,000, and there were roughly 12,000 there tonight. It was a great atmosphere. JT has nothing to be ashamed of, they should give a good showing in the playoffs. We shall see how everything pans out.

The stadium holds just over 10,500 (that equates to approximately 5,000 plus on each side) . . . Using this as a measuring stick, there was at least another 3,500 to 4,500 sitting on the hill. There was at least 15,000 attending this game, if not more!! Pretty good croud for Lobo Stadium. :D

Lobo9498

I don't see how you got 3,500-4,000 on the hill. Didn't look like THAT many. It was nowhere near what we saw at SFA last year. Last year, you could NOT see the hills at all. They said 12,500 officially. There were several empty seats in the greenbacks b/c of season ticket holders that did not attend.

I dunno what I was thinking, I guess I hadn't been to Lobo Stadium in a while. I thought the fense that seperated the LV drill team and band section was on the 50 yd line and that the visitor side was only half a field.

Oh well, it was an awesome atmosphere...... before the game started at least. It's just too bad the game didn't live up to all the hype. But it was cool to see 5,000 - 7,000 fans already there an hour before the game.

To all the Longview fans - when was the last time that stadium was that full for a regular season game?

Lobo9498
11-05-2005, 12:47 AM
They moved the Viewettes the the opposite side of the band, and cut the student section in half to accomodate more visiting fans earlier this year. And, the stadium was packed last year against Lee, but we didn't have fans on the hill. That is the first time ever, i believe, that there have been people sitting on the hill.

It was cool to see them on the hill, but I'm glad I have season tickets. I don't have to sit on the hill when we're at home. I don't think they'll do it ALL the time, but at the last home game, against Rockwall, I did get to thinking if they could use the hill at times. Rockwall had a big crowd for that game too. But, not quite the size of tonight's crowd. I am just curious as to how many of those "fans" were actually fans of JT LAST year? I know some are true fans and live and die for JT football, but I highly doubt that all of those fans were Lions fans last year. They were probably Lee fans and jumped ship. Where were all of those fans when the Lions went 2-8 last year?

BigArab
11-05-2005, 01:15 AM
I think the best way to solve this problem is add on. Forget the hill....think horseshoe. The small section for the Lobos bushes could stay, but other than that, Collins and Marable need to be thinking expansion. We are lightyears ahead of a lot of teams in terms of playing, but lightyears behind in terms of facilities.

I think all the fans you saw remaining in the stands at the playing of JT's school song were their true fans and were around last year. And to be honest with you, there were A LOT more fans staying for the end of the game than I thought there would be. Maybe though this blowout loss will convince the fairweather fans to stay home for the playoffs, cause there's nothing I hate more then fans leaving before the game is over.

I actually haven't seen either kid play. I'm going on what I'm told by a friend of mine in Longview. He said that Wilkerson is definitely ready to tote the rock while Moon has a lot of learning to do. From listening to games, it sounds like Moon really gets stopped a lot. Sounds more like Mark Johnson is the better RB. Who knows.

I was VERY impressed with how many JT fans were still in the stands. I know we were ahead big, but I still hate to see our home side clear out early. I stay at least until the final buzzer, and am usually walking out as the school song is being played. I hope JT's players don't take the loss too bad. They are still a very good football team, and if they come out to play Saturday, they should take care of business. They have NOTHING to be ashamed of. 2-8 last year, to 8-2 this year and District runner-up. I had figured they would at least be the 3rd place team with Longview and Lee this year. I never thought they'd be contending for the District title. The QB y'all have is very impressive. Our D just was too much for y'all. And the offense was just clicking like it was earlier in the year. Good luck in the playoffs. I hope to see all 3 12-5A teams represent well. Last year we had all three teams: Longview, Lee and Mesquite, alive in the 3rd round when Mesquite and Longview got knocked out. We know what Lee did. Should be a very interesting playoff season. The preseason and District were exciting. Playoffs could only be better.

Aubrey is one of my neighbors--he is no longer on the team due to disciplinary reasons--not going into it on this website......don't know if he'll return for next season..he should though...been playing JV for the last month....said Wilson wanted him to get alot more snaps and playing time rather than sitting on the sidelines with his thumbs in the air.............

Moon hasn't been to impressive in his backup role, he looks timid and unsure. But I remember a unkown kid named Vondrell backing up Jerrel and he didn't look too impressive either. And we know how that one turned out. So I wouldn't be surprised to see moon turn out to be very good.

I have seen wilkerson a few times and he is bigger and looks very promising. I think he has a problem running east/west though. I remember the coaches were on his but big time in the scrimmage earlier in the year for it.
