Hypothetically, this match up would be interesting to watch, but I don't know enough about the Abilene team to make a prediction, I think Lufkin's overall talent and team speed will cause problems for most teams, so I will give the Panthers the edge in this one. Don't really like thinking that far ahead because that stuff will get you in trouble.

I think Abilene, because of the air in west texas lol! I think there both good teams and it will have to be played on the field, when and if we both get there. No doubt both teams are very good. I like Abilene because I went there and have rooted for them through thick and thin, and they are playing good ball and starting to peak at the right time! We still need to beat M. Lee this week to go 10 - 0 and win the district bell thats more important right now. Then take it one game at a time.

Is the Lufkin defense as good as it was last year? I'm still amazed at the play #11 made at the end of the 1st half in the semi-final. He had a freakin torn ACL wearing a huge knee brace and ran down the sideline beating our receiver to the streak and picked it off. He may have only been 5 yards off of the receiver too. If the defense is as good as it was last year I may give Lufkin the nod to win it all.

Leonard Hewitt got his 6th pick of the year Fri. night against the Woodz, that's 16 in the past 1.5 years - including the injury - and returned it for 6. Hard to believe the qb fell for his trap. Drabek was open a few times during the game briefly, but it would have taken a great throw (which Potts could pull off) to get him the ball. Kyle had one catch for 13 yards against Leonard.

Evidently, there are some in Abilene don't know much about Lufkin either. I was talking to an Abilene coach at the 7 on 7 last July and he thought Lufkin had been 5A only a few years and didn't realize we had won a State Championship in 2001. There is so much distance that separates the two schools it is hard to know alot about each other. Abilene palys in the Little SWC and Lufkin down South on I-45 near Houston. No real reason to know much about each other since we never play.

As I said earlier, this is like fantasy football, there is too much in front of both teams to be concerned with a matchup like this. However, if both teams did make it to the 5th round to meet, evidently that would prove they are both very good teams. They both have good offenses with good quarterbacks and recievers, I think the difference would be defense and I would give that edge to Lufkin knowing nothing at all about Abilene's defense, because the Lufkin D is that good. I don't know about this thread beacause Lufkin will need to play people like Longview, Copperas Cove, Dallas Carter, Pfluggerville or Leander long before we would get to the 5th round.

I guess I don't like to talk about a possible match up that is so far down the road.

I know more about Abilene then most Lufkin fans because i have paid attention to both Abilene and Cooper considering i lived their for almost 2 years. Cooper was the KING of Abilene when i was there, but Abilene always has very good athletes. Abilene had a very good team last year but des not seem to be as dominant this year considering they lost a lot to graduation. It would be a good game but i would take abilufkin in a route. LOL Seriously, too early to predict a game that might not even happen but i would put Lufkin up against anybody in most years and feel that they had a great shot at winning. I am sure it would be fun to watch if this game happened but that is just too far far away to even think about. I have always wanted Lufkin to play an Abilene school because i have a few friends that live there and i could give them a hard time when Lufkin pounds them. ;)

Eagles52 - I have the highest respect for the Abilene Eagles Program and there is no way I would not treat you with respect. Coach Warren has a great program with Abilene High. You asked for an opinion, so I gave you my opinion. This was based on watching both teams play last year and a look at the results for this year. The Eagles got off to a slow start, but have come good in District play. My view is that should Abilene Eagles meet Lufkin Panthers - then I go with the Panthers of Lufkin. I added a note to the effect, that I think an Abilene Eagles vs Southlake Carroll is still a real possibility; as I predict this Friday's results will give SLC a D2 play-off berth. Please be assured I have the greatest admiration for the Abilene Eagles Program.
