Bush's running + Leinart's passing = Vince Young

This was an interesting thought on Reggie Bush and the his heisman quest:

The last two weeks, Reggie Bush has rushed for 51 yards and one touchdown, and 97 yards and no TDs. He had two catches for 18 yards, and four catches for 40 yards with no TDs. He had one punt return for a touchdown. Can you explain why he's a Heisman candidate? His rushing yardage isn't great, his receiving yardage isn't great, he's ranked 36th in punt returns and 98th in kick returns. It seems to me that he's just been average-to-good all around, not Heisman quality. Or is "exciting" all that is necessary to be a Heisman winner?

Did you guys look at the leaderboard?

http://www.voteforheisman.com/results.php

Bush and Leinart combined have around 4200 votes! Young has, like, 16,400 votes!

Oddly enough...Brody Croyle (18,000) and Maurice Drew (17,000) are the leaders, with a combined 35,000 votes!!

In todays game...HYPE is all you need. They throw stats out the window. Ted Ginn came into this year as a favorite....and his numbers last year AND this year are less than average.

I agree with your hype asessment but not altogether. A lot of what is said about VY is based on his running stats, and those stats come against less than stellar teams. So stats are not tossed. Stats can and often are padded.

Two weeks ago one of my son's db's picked off a pass in a losing effort....a large lost...it was to his team's advantage to drop the ball as it was a 4th down play and he did not make it back to the opposing teams line of scrimmage. Still it was to his advantage to have the interception.

I somewhat agree about the hype and stats, but the main thing is production, "situational stats"! It's about showing up in the big games, making the big plays, throwing up 220+ yards rushing as a true freshman in a traditional rival game! It's also about consistancy...doing it week in and week out against solid opponents! It's about dominating, to a degree, on the highest level...under the spotlight!

Vince and Bush have, equally, done this, but which one has the tougher job? Which team (USC or UT) would still be undefeated without these guys on the roster?

And remember...Reggie Bush is a great kr, pr, rb and wr, but he does not lead his undefeated team in rushing, receving or passing.

However, Young does lead his undefeated team is passing, rushing and td's scored. And I bet you he'd throw himself some passes, if he could, so that he'd lead in receiving, as well!(< jk) :D

Yep....Take Bush out...USC still wins....Take Young out and Mack Brown is unemployed. THAT'S what the Heisman should be about.

That's what Brian COx just said.....except that's not the Heisman, that's the MVP in my mind. There is no doubt in my mind that VY makes the Texas team.

the award goes to the best player. If you've seen both play, more than once, it is easy to say it is Bush.
