I'll post our new Top 25 tonight...there will be quite a few changes thanks to the SGP upset over ET...that really shook things up for me.

It has to make Imac and SGP both look better.

I think that a new number one and number two should be debuting tonight.

Westfield needs to be number one and Katy needs to be number two. After that it is anybody's guess.

I agree with number 1. I don't think you could put Katy at no.2 though. I think SLC or Lufkin gets the no 2 spot.

They're not going to put somebody else at #1. It has to be SLC until they get beat.

What I love is the Houston Chronicle does not have North Shore ranked in the state's top 10. I consider that a good sign for Shore. It's always been bad luck if they rank you number one.

ya and I think that is ridiculous. You should reward teams for taking care of business. Carroll does not deserve the number one ranking after how they played last week. If they play well in week 10 they can get the spot back if the other teams don't.

Off topic: Am I the first fan to argue their team should be lower in the rankings and polls?

Westfield and Katy have been pretty consistent and so has North Shore. Everybody else is inconsistent.

I predict top 5

1) Sring Westfield

2) SLC

3) Lufhin

4) Katy

5) Longview

That state ranking in the Houston Chronicle is the AP rankings. Their rankings are the local ones which have NS at #4 behind SW, LP and Katy.

Dave Campbell's State Farm poll has:

1) SLC

2) Spring Westfield

3) Longview

4) Katy

5) Lufkin

SLC found a way to win a game that they could have lost! A true Champion will find ways to win. Was I happy with the play of the Dragons? The defense was outstanding! If you take away the 9 points that the offense scored for Grapevine then the score is 28-14 or worse because Grapevine was playing like they could win verses playing like SLC would win. If SLC scores on its first two drives and does not throw an interception for a TD the other way then the score is 17 - 0 going into the 2nd quarter. This would set up another SLC blowout. The overall stats show that it should have been a blowout!

Should SLC lose the #1 for a close call? No, only in a BCS type of voodoo poll. SLC has not lost and until someone does beat them they will still be #1.

That being said, if SLC does not take care of business this week and win by a bunch then someone else might be able to be concidered #1.

KT2000 has said before that SLC should not drop until they get beat. I will be shocked if that happens. I think it will be
1)SLC
2)Westfield
3)Lufkin
4)Katy
5)Longview
6)Northshore
7)Abilene
8)Trinity
9)Plano
10)Cove

I think the biggest jump will be SGP and the biggest drop will be Trinity. SGP is playing Grand Prarie this week which is a rivialry game but SGP should dispose of GP fairly easily. Trinity has to play IMac for the District Championship! That will be a great game and a lot of people from other schools will be there to "scout" these teams to see how they match up with other protential playoff opponents. (SLC). If SGP goes up then IMac has to go up because the only loss that SGP has had is to IMac.

No way SLC drops from that top spot until they are beaten. We evaluate the overall body of work and not just one game.

I prefer that Carter isn't ranked high in most state polls because it gives them the chance to upset teams that are ranked higher and they seem to earn more respect when they do. I hate when we are ranked high and lose to someone who we're supposed to beat because it hurts worse. That has been the case in the past few years. I think this years team is one of the best, but underrated teams that Carter has had in along time and that can be good for them. It will be interesting this year because there are more great programs this year than I've seen in a long time. The competition is everywhere in all the regions.

The schools in the DISD will never get the respect in the state polls until they start getting past the first or second round of the playoffs on a CONSISTENT basis. I used to coach in the DISD and I'm not slamming them -- it's just a fact. I have tons of respect for Allen Wilson because of his past accomplishments but he has the talent at Carter and needs to get it done there. If they can't do it with Wilson at the helm, then it can't be done!

Close wins or losses when you're suppsoed to blow somebody out takes a toll om your rating.

Does it really make a difference where a team is ranked at this point? I mean we'll find out who is really # 1 in about 6-7 weeks. Both of them.

Judson has lost 20 points in the power ratings this year.

That's true what you say about the DISD schools, but with the talent that Carter produces they'll have a shot with any elite coaching staff. Coach Wilson has done a great job this year because he found out that being stuck in his old ways isn't always good. He has changed his philosophy somewhat and has implemented more passing by continuing to operate the Wing-T as well as incorporating a spread to mix things up a bit. I think he has gotten a lot better as a coach at Carter and has a great shot at winning it all. I don't want Carter to get more respect in the polls, but what I want is the wins in the post season and then the respect that they deserve year in and year out.

Thats a good point. He has improved as a coach. I remember Wilson getting bashed by the Cowboy Country at first because he was soooooo one-dimensional.

He also changed his defense up this year too, and it is very noticeable. They have 4 shutouts this year so far compared to none last year.

For that matter does it really matter where a team is ranked at ANY point in the season. You have to succeed in the playoffs to "earn" any right to be "ranked". ;)

if et is there, shouldn't both sgp and imac be too? maybe not yet, but they are very deserving.

SGP is playing Coppell this week and from what I read Coppell still has a faint pulse for the playoffs. If SGP wins and Trinity wins correct me if I am wrong but they say there will be a 3 way champ for 6-5 A. If anyone knows the ins and outs of this let me know.

dragonsdaddy
10-31-2005, 06:31 PM
wouldn't a 3 way tie only be important for determining the seeding of the d-2 teams? and with head to head in play, sgp couldn't finish ahead of imac, so are going to be second seed regardless.
