1. Clemens- Still holds the top spot. Noone has beaten them yet. Should have an easy go of it against Seguin this week. Will be just fine in the playoffs if they can get past week one. Hope Henry is going to make full recovery and have much success in college.
2. Smithson Valley- Sits atop 26-5A. Coming off a big victroy over Madison the Rangers will play Roosevelt this week. Should be a small bump in their prep for the play-offs. If they can get past week one in the play-offs they will cruise to the semi'final before being tested again.
3. San Marcos- Sits in second in 25-5A. Might as well have a bye this weeka s they start preparing for the playoffs. If they can get past round one, look for them in the semi-finals.
4. Madison-Coming off a loss to Smithson Valley. Already locked up a spot in the playoffs. If they get past first round look for them in the semi's. Two of the top four teams should match up in the quarterfinals.
5. O'Connor-Still rolling through 27-5A. Toughest test in district this week against Jay. Jay plays some salty defense, but O'Connors discipline and execution should give them the edge.
6. Clark-Clark has also knotted up a playoff spot with their win over Marshall. Clark will probably lose out of the play-offs when they face SA again.
7. Jay-Will have their hands full against O'Connor this week. Their defense will keep this game close. The question is can their offense get the job done against a improving O'Connor Defense.
8. Reagan-Sealed the deal on their first winning season by smacking Churchill. Should make the playoffs with a win or a lose against Judson. Will have to be blown out by Judson to not get in.
9. Seguin-Locked up a playoff spot in 25-5A. That district should be called Clemens, San Marcos, and the also rans. Proved to be the best of the bad getting third place. Look for Clemens to beat them and then them lose out in round one.
10. Judson-Still have an outside chance, but must dismantle a good Reagan team to do it. I have seen crazier things happen. Will be pulling for the Rockets, but as realist I know there is not much of a chance.
All the top ten teams have either secured a spot in the playoffs or playing each other for the last spot this weekend. As always, the toughest teams they will see before the Semi-finals are all located in San Antonio. 27-5A should have no problem with the CC schools. The real games will be in round 1 when 25 and 26 go head to head.
Have fun with them. Give me your input, but realize I am right and this is the best top ten in the SA are.

That would put them behing O'Connor, Clark, And Jay. With the trio of Green, Guy, and Caflisch MAdison could score on any play, even a broken play. They may be the best trio in the backfield in the SA area. And I do not see anyone behind them in the top ten that could beat them. They are the fourth best team in SA.

Overall, not bad. Jay should be over Clark. Seguin is better than Reagan, Clark, and maybe Jay; seeing as how this is just a power ranking and you are a fan that is going to take a week or two to be enlightened by Seguin, I understand!

No, Seguin had the lead in the fourth quater. They throw a pick, Canyon takes it back. Seguin fumbles, Wilke (one hell of a RB) breaks out; game over. Seguin was controling that game, had that game, and lose the game.

Your list looks very good, I just still have a hard time giving Clemens the top spot. No offense Clemens, but I just don't think your competition has been as tough as Smithson Valley's. Plus, SV is a proven title contender and is battle-tested in one of the toughest districts in the State. I understand SC is unbeaten and therefore it's tough not to put them on top, but I also think Clemens and San Marcos will both be going home after bi-district. That's just my two cents.
Cue the SC "lack of respect" posts...

Yes, you're right. You have to play good for all 4 quarters against a top team. He said they were in control of a game and lost it in the 4th and I wanted to say you have to take it up a notch. A bad 4th quarter is not an excuse to throw around.

Madison beat O'Connor in preseason when one of the super sophs fumbled inside the Madison 10....still a win for Mavs...and Clark beat Jay...so the rankings looks right...
O'Connor vs Jay this Friday for the 27 Championship...Doesn't change who plays where come playoff time....
See the winner of Div 1 25/26 .. Seguin/Reagan? come round 2

I'm still amazed at how well O'Connor has done with such a young team. Key Seniors in Leadership roles with all the Jrs and Sophs. I think OC is only starting something like 9 seniors at the moment. Lost the starting FB and DE who were both Sophs to ACL tears, but get back the soph TB this week after being out several weeks with a shoulder injury. The key there is discipline and they've gotten better each week....Good Luck to all in Region 4....Let's bring home both the Div 1 and 2 titles to the SA area...

I don't know anyone who really would want SV in the first round, or any round! But, you are correct that a Mavericks matchup is better for the Buffaloes in the first round! If we would meet up with them later in the playoffs it would be better because it will give the offense 5 weeks to work without James in the lineup and hopefully uncover a few new wrinkles in the process!

SV has a loss to Churchill.... with a loss to Roosevelt that would be 2 district losses, putting Madison as the champ with a win. As far as J.Henry goes, everyone knows hes out. Yes it will hurt Clemens a little, but one guy should not make up for that much. If Clemens is a state-contending team.. they will have to play as a team and rely on what they have all year they're defense. Every post you bring up J.Henry being injured.... everyone knows; everyones upset that hes out, but you gotta get over it.... It just sounds like your getting your excuses ready just in case Clemens looses.

Well. if SM is better (which they are everywhere I look), there's obviously 5 others! :)

Duh, I forgot about SV's loss to Churchill! As far as getting ready for an excuse, what are you talking about, all I've talked about is how Clemens has come together since loosing him and played as a team like they are! As far as loosing James for the year, it would hurt any team and if you don't admit that, then I don't know what to say to you. As far as excuses if we loose, we won't make any! There are 4 good teams that will be in Div1 in R4 (SV, SM, SC, & JM) and either team could win the region!

Yesterday afternoon the principals from Reagan and Judson Along with the athletic directors met to discuss the possible scenarios that could occur depending on the outcome of Friday's game. I have not heard the outcome of the meeting. I do know the Judson coaches have told their players that they must win by 18 points to get in the playoffs. I have talked to a Reagan coach that says Judson must win by 21. Which is true? I do not know. I think That the only ones that know right now are the AD's, Principals, and head coaches. It should be intetresting to see the outcome of their meeting after so much speculation.

I simply stated my opinion that I didn't think they were better than SV, and I gave some reasons to back up my analysis. You're absolutely right that it doesn't matter what any of us think at this point, and that we'll all find out come playoff time.
Now, try to use some punctuation, and break down your thoughts into sentences. It makes things much easier to understand and will make you appear to have some sense of grammer and intellectual capacity. It will also make other posters give a little more credence to your opinions.

We'll stick around, you can count on it. As far as making statements about being better then most 5a teams, hopefully we will do that by playing 4 or 5 of them in non-district games and just let the score say it all! LOL But then we would just have to listen to the BS about how it was early in the season and that non-district game didn't mean anything! Right? I guarantee you this, in 98' and 99' both SC and SV could have beaten the overwelming majority of the 5a teams in SA, if not all of them, and if you watched any of our games or SVs those years you probably wouldn't argue the fact to much! In fact, we not only beat some 5a playoff teams those two years in non-district games, we absolutely spanked them!

We'll stick around, you can count on it. Didn't a SA team win the state championship that year(98'). Did ya'll beat them? Just messing with you. In the grand scheme of things the only difference between a 4A school and a 5A school is ussually a few kids. They should be very competitive. Unless you are talking about some of the larger 5A schools and some of the smaller 4A schools, but as I have stated before it is not the size of the enrollment, it is the size of the talent pool. They are completely different stories. You have so many factors that go into the size of the talent pool it is unreal.

I agree with you to an extent, but the size of an enrollment is in direct relation to the # of talented players that are available! In other words, if a larger 4a has 800 boys, 320 of them being JRs or SRs and a larger 5a has 1,600 boys, 640 of them being JRs & SRs it would stand to reason that there should be more naturally talented athletes to choose from. Maybe not twice as many, but certainly more. I think that this helps with the 1st teamers somewhat, but where it will really show it's help is on the reserve players that are ready to come in and play when a starter goes down! Also, having more kids on the team simply makes them work that much harder (both in practice and especially in the off-season in the weight rooms) to acheive a starting position! They know if their buddy gets stronger and quicker than them between this season and next, they will be watching from the bench!
All I'm saying is that some of the really good 4a teams can play with the really good 5a teams and win! I truly hope the Ferrara schedules some tough 5a schools for non-district games even if it means a couple of early losses in the season, because it will pay off for district and the playoffs!

I have heard he scheduled Wagner to open up with. This occurred at an AD's meeting I was at. I was shocked he wanted someone that will be struggling, being that it is a new school. But you look at all these large schools in the valley, why are they not state powers? It is not because they do not have the numbers, it is because they do not have the right, ethnic, social economic, etc. makeup. It is not the number of kids in the school it is who the kids are in the school. Lee is a perfect example, they have over 2300 kids and still cannot compete with most 4A schools.

You have a very valid point on the numbers game! In my mind I cannot see Wagner struggling their first year with the talent and the coaching that they have in place! I'm not saying they're going to be contending for a title next year, but I would be willing to bet they are a top ten 5a team in SA next year! I hope that if he scheduled Wagner that he also approaches Rackley for a game. That would be a good thing keeping the local neighborhood rivalry going between those three schools. I really beleive that they would be excellent games year end and year out!
Do you know if Wagner's JV played Steele's JV this year? I heard that Steele's JV had a pretty good year and the future looks bright for them. What about Wagner's year, are they looking good?

O'Connor's JV played Wagner this year. Wagner won the game late in the 4th quarter. I keep in mind that OC has a ton of Sophs and Jr's up on varsity and not playing at the JV level this year. Wagner had five or six kids that could start on almost any varsity program. The new school JV squad that impressed me was Stevens. They beat OC 28-0 and had a considerable size advantage. They should be a top 10 SA team next year and may challenge for a playoff spot their first year at the varsity level. Steven's has quite the sports complex...and I mean complex. Huge weight room and multiple sports fields and gyms....wow...Nice to see my tax dollars at work. How has the Steele JV squad done this year??

As I stated before my nephew plays at Wagner. They did scrimmage Steele and outscored them 5-2, but that is meaningless. You do not know if the one's scored on the two's or the other way around. There are many web sites in SA to check subvarsity scores. You can go to www.judsonisd.assistantcoach.net for all the Judson and Wagner scores, www.northsideisd.assistantcoach.net for all the Northside scores, www.neisd.net for all the northeast scores. And I am pretty sure the home pages at both Clemens schools have all their scores. I just looked up what records they have on the internet. It looks like Wagner and Stevens have played pretty much the same schools minus one or two games, and Steele has played an easier schedule in my opinion.
Stevens Jv 5-3-1, Freshmen games listed 1-2
Wagner Jv 6-2, freshmen A 6-1-1, freshmen B 7-1
Steele Jv 7-1, freshmen A 8-0, freshmen B 3-4
All have winning records, but they are against sub varstiy comp. It will be tougher when they step up to 5A or 4A varstiy comp.

The last I heard a couple of weeks ago was that they had lost one game to I think a 3a varsity team or something like that!
All those Sophs and Jrs on the varsity is a scary thing for the next couple of years! I think OC, as I've stated before, will be in contention for a city championship if not more in the next couple of years!

I believe that was against St. Anthony's with that Sohl kid that's running roughshod over their opponents this year.
