Southlake is about 5 miles from DFW airport. So about 30 minutes to either Dallas or Ft. Worth.

many topics have been on this. some say things such as coaching, good work out facilitys, ability to afford personal training/camps. Things to that nature.

Southlake is an affluent area. Like Highland Park, the people that live there expect to be the best in everything, and they do it.

They buy the Cowboys rejects and issue them fake ID's. ;)

There are many wealthy districts and school's across Texas and it does not guarantee a winning program!! SLC is well coached and they have a lot of talent to go along with the coaching. I guess it is the bs white stereotype that makes people say they only win because they are wealthy?? I have seen them play Lufkin twice and they are legit in every aspect of the game trust me. Both the Lufkin vs SLC games went down to the very end but SLC prevailed both times and i have nothing but respect for them and what they can do because i know how talented those Lufkin teams were they played. They are definitely one of the greatest 5a dynasty's of all time no matter how you look at it and it does matter if they lose in the 1st round this year. They are the real deal what else can i say??

hard work. The kids at southlake have really bought into the "Protect the Tradition" that Coach Dodge has incorporated. By watchign the dragons play, you can tell they are in great shape, and work very hard. Love em or hate em, you have to respect the way those kids work and how they play for each other.

Hey, that sort-of-happened in '74 when I was a senior at Dobie. Dobie played Smiley and got beat by two touchdowns or something like that. The players I knew talked about how good Smiley's RB was. They said they couldn't bring him down or slow him down. He was a man amongst boys. Well, three games later Smiley had to forfeit their games because the stud RB was actually 21 yrs old!
How 'bout that for a Texas high school football tale?!

Back in the day before there were rules about moving into a town and playing football, there was a story about the Oil Industry moving in the biggest and best kids to feed the Permian Football program. It was so bad that one year the Average Age for the High School Team was 23!

I believe that story happened in the late 40's early 50's. There are a lot of rules in place to prevent that type of thing happening again!

SLC's success comes primarily from two things; coaching and disciplined players. Those guys execute their game plan very well. The teams with the most "talent" don't always win. Usually the coach of said teams tries to rely heavily on that talent and gets himself outcoached.

all over the oil field, the wealthiest towns hired the dads with the best sons. abilene got a great one in jarrin john kimbrough of the streets of little haskell and to this day he is a pariah there. breckinridge was so over the top that they caused the uil to put rules in place about transferring. it didn't stop it completely, but it ceratinly isn't as prevalent as it was in the day.
