Jones arrested on felony drug chargeUpdated:

(AP) - Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

Jared Hicks and Benjamin Cook were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges. Jones was being arrested on a cocaine charge.

Jones was being held on $2,500 bond at the Washington County jail on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance. His arraignment was set for Aug. 11, two days after Jacksonville's preseason opener against Atlanta.

Jones, a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round pick in 2005, failed to develop into the go-to receiver Jacksonville thought he could be.

Last season, coach Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones' demeanor and work ethic, making him inactive for three games. In the offseason, the Jaguars signed free agent Jerry Porter and traded for former first-round pick Troy Williamson

My first reaction is to post "loser", but then I'm asking for some mercy on Terrence Kiel who had his problems.

Clearly Matt never decided to go to work after college. Maybe he turns it around, but I'm sure the Jags cut him.

Ya... I understand that.

I also think the Jags/NFL will cut him. I think the NFL has a "DONT SCREW UP" policy in place right now and I dont blame them.

NBA went down a few notches over the past decade because of many so called character issues that turned off the "PAYING PUBLIC" and I think the NFL took notice of that and is going to work to try and keep their image as clean as possible.

PS. Cedric Benson gets into trouble (X2) in Austin, Tx and now Matt Jones get into trouble in Fayettville, Ark. I know you can get into trouble anywhere but maybe these guys should stay away from their former college towns.

They need to grow up and leave the college lifestyle behind.

Agreed.. If I was getting paid freaking millions to play football in my 20's and 30's. Man, I would think I was the luckest freaking man on the planet Earth and I wouldnt do jack to ruin it.

These guys dont realize what they have and how much God has blessed them with the "gift" of being a professional athlete.

Some people are dumb. Probably a good thing that he got caught though. Now he has a chance to get his life back together.

If he was doing coke in college then Jacksonville's front office did a pretty crappy background/character check on him. As far as Cedric Benson goes, what did he do? DWI or was it drugs?

Two DWI's less than 30 days apart.

Well that'll get you locked up.

One of them was boating while intoxicated, right? That's a lot more serious then driving a car while intoxicated.
