ok all,

we have a Judson only thread...how about a 27-5a thread...who wins, how well does each team do and who are these teams??? Info, info, info???

Judson, Wagner, South San, Victoria Memorial, East Central, Highlands, and the CC duo...King and Carroll...how do they finish, who are their stars, types of offenses, types of defenses, how they did last year??? come on guys, give this 44 year old man some info to work with, want to go into this season with a feel for the teams...don't have one playing at Judson this year, but LOVE high school football...the last true sport in this world...you guys have the time, the energy and the information I need...This should be good for at least 25 pages...

Are there any Victoria, CC, Highlands, South San, East Central fans on this site?? I mean besides you RedRage, I know you are now pushing Victoria M...do you have any info on the team that you would like to share???

I think I'm the only full-time Victoria fan. There are a few others but they'll probably come around when the season starts. I've never seen anyone from the other schools. I know there is a Carroll guy, and this King guy (who's dreaming of a King playoff lol jk)

I'm not expecting anything spectacular from the Vipers this season. I don't think they'll beat Judson and Wagner, but the other district teams are a definite possibility. Carroll,East Central, & King are beatable. South San & Highlands will probably be the bottom teams. Carroll is constantly overrated and pad their non-district schedule with Laredo and valley schools that they know they'll beat.

The Vipers beat Port Lavaca Calhoun in a couple of 7-on-7 games this summer....but it is just Port Lavaca Calhoun and it is only 7-on-7. I am not sure who they are scrimmaging. I haven't read anything or seen anything. Since I no longer live in Victoria I have to rely on information from a couple of sources that email me sometimes & the Victoria Advocate website. The Vipers do open up at home against San Antonio Taft.

Ya they did but just because you lose one player doesn't mean you aren't good the next year.
They have alot of good returning players.
Travis Ferguson will knock your head off trust me he did it to me in middle school.
Jake Sims didn't do bad in his JV games so I wonder how the switch up will do for him.
Anthony Davis is quick and tough to take down.
That's why CC Carroll will be a legitimate threat next season.

Judson, Wagner, CC Carroll, doesn't matter.

Because they're Carroll and the City of Corpus Christi always kisses their butt...for what? They never do anything...I don't know. WB Ray has owned them the last few years.

The KTs aren't the best when dealing with Region 4. They'll admit that Region 4 isn't their strong point when dealing with schools outside of San Antonio. Maybe they know something we don't know, but the Top 10 in Region 4 should be Austin/San Antonio schools. No one south of that has proven otherwise.

El Campo is always good. They just never get recognition because they always played Texas City or La Marque in bi-district and they would lose close games. The one time they did get past the first round (a few years ago) they made the Division II Quarterfinals.

Corpus Christi as a city really doesn't care about football. Baseball is their sport....Moody (State Champs in 4A last year), Calallen (State Champs this year).

When I was in HS, we played King in Corpus. It was their homecoming game. I don't know why they chose us as their homecoming opponent because thats when we were good LOL....It was their homecoming and we (the visitor) had more fans than them. :eek:

Well, they aren't Judson. They can be beat. We nearly took out Carroll last season if it wasn't for a safety. King hasn't done anything since Pope & Owen in the early 2000s.

Sad is CC Miller. They look like they had 30 kids suited on the sideline. Their band is like 30 kids and their dance team is like 4 girls. That was bad for 5A. They are 4A now and it still bad. But they win more in 4A! :D

RedRage...wow just realized that victoria Mem is the biggest school in the district, over 3500 students...that's pretty big...Judson is just 3000...so you are now the team to beat...more students...better team, right? I mean that is how Judson was judged like that for years, now we just top 3000, so who knows...better pool to choose from...CC King and Carroll should worry this year...beat one of them and East Central and you guys could go to the playoffs as a Big 5A team...

There is a big difference with Memorial at 3500 students and Judson at 3000+. Judson has the community support & a long history. Memorial never got the community behind them because no one wanted consolidation. Memorial started with 4400+ students in 2000 and it has dwindled to 3500 in those 8 years because people are sending their kids to other smaller schools in the Victoria area.

Memorial is deconsolidating for the 2010 school year. We'll have 2 4A schools now from what it looks like. At least until people begin to bring their kids back to VISD and those 2 schools grow. I'm looking forward to 2010. :D

What's up with all the teams in 27-5A playing 4A teams in preseason games, East Central, three 4A teams...CC King, three 4A teams...CC Carroll, two 4A teams and Laredo Alexander??...Highlands, two 4A teams and Holmes??...South San is playing one 4A team, but they are playing Lee and Holmes??...Victoria Mem is playing two 4A teams, but at least one good team, Taft...

Wagner plays one, but it is Kerrville Tivy(who beat Judson last year), but their other games are Smithson Valley, ranked 18 and Roosevelt picked #3(I think by Dave Campbell)

And then there is Judson, we are playing 3 state ranked teams, Warren, picked #11(I think by Dave Campbell), Smithson Valley, ranked 18...and Pfugerville, ranked 17...

OK, what is wrong with this picture???

We've always played El Campo. It's like a little rivalry....they are only 45 minutes up the road. Plus, El Campo is no pushover 4A team. They would dominate if they were in Region 4 but they are in Region 3. Look at what happened when Calhoun moved to Region 4 from El Campos district? They think they are Calallen now cause they've won games the last 2 seasons. El Campo owned Calhoun all those years and would still own them this year.

Taft is new this year. They are pretty decent.

Moody....we used to play them when they were 5A. This is probably a guaranteed win for the Vipers! :D

king hasnt played a 5a team in the preseason since 05. and the weird thing is that the year where we were pretty terrible.
but my guess is its because of money.
i wish we could go to san antonio and play some decent or even below average teams because io dont feel that playing 4a teams gets us ready even though we lose.
last year wass a great example
king beat gp and gp went deep into the regional finals.
the level is just different

It could be travel and expenses like kingwrecks says. Victoria has always been the only 5A school until you reach Houston, Corpus, Austin, and San Antonio. We have a crapload of 4A schools around us and we'll soon be 4A anyway. We don't have the luxery of having all the 5A schools around us like San Antonio. That is why you see a lot of NEISD vs NISD in pre-season games. We have played Cy-Fair, Pearland, Clark, Marshall, and Austin area schools in the past but maybe the recent gas prices forced us to play closer to home a little.

This sounds bad, but I'm ready to close the door on Memorial HS. I'm ready for the 2 new high schools to open up. The debate now in Victoria is whether or not they should be named after the old schools (Victoria HS & Stroman). I'd welcome that any day as a former Sting! :cool:

Also, you have some rivalries that have been around for years.

Like Carroll ALWAYS plays Gregory-Portland in the "Battle of the Bridge"....I think that is what they call it. I think they even have a cup they hand out to the winner.

Well with this district change, money will not be, or can not be the issue now...they will have to travel to SA for games at least every other week...hope all the CC and Victoria taxes are paid up, so the kids can travel??? I know us Judson parents, fans, and residents are paying, boy, are we paying!!!

Victoria has always traveled. Its never been a problem. We are the only 5A school in the area. Corpus on the other hand has had to travel more in recent years. Back in the day, the only place they had to come to in district was Victoria. All the other teams in the district were in CC. Now with Moody,Miller, & Ray dropping to 4A all the CCISD teams have to travel more.

Why the drop in enrollment in CC school? Moving to the suburbs? No growth in CC area? Understand, the 4A non-district schedule because of rivalries and $$$$. There are going to be some great games and some surprises.

I believe its because all the growth is in the King & Carroll districts...and of course the suburbs...more in the King area though. I believe they have more students than Carroll for the first time ever.

my thoery is why not close down miller and/or moody and move the students.
i think that would make cc schools much more competitive in sports even if those 2 schools are particularly bad at sports

Saw Paul Wood from Wes Oso and Terry Ray from Miller this past weekend playing basketball in Denton. How would you rank them in football?

Not sure about Wagner...will tell you that my son was the starting left guard last year and he was 6'6" 270lbs. and he was for sure the tallest, but not near the heaviest...the heaviest lineman for Judson is coming back this season...Amere Townes (sorry if spelled wrong) but he is easily 320 lbs. and probably the #1 offensive lineman in San Antonio, probably top ten in state...so good luck CC King, you guys will need it I am pretty sure...

Ok good, now info...what position, size, jersey number, how will King be??? Don't ya'll run the "Run and Shoot" offense? How is the defense, will there be a large number of seniors starting?? How big is your O-Line?? How fast is D-Line?? what does your quarterback look like, runningbacks?? come on, info...I am willing to share what I know...don't have kid there, but do know many of those playing...coached a lot of them in pre-middle school days, including our running back Chauncey Harris...he should really come into his own this year...extremely quick, finds holes very well and getting the size he needs to be dangerous, could make 1500 yards this year if given the ball enough, probably won't, but Judson likes to use the "max back system", many runningbacks, different styles, different speeds, different sizes...keeps defenses on their toes...just when they think they got the runningbacks style, we put in a different one...

we run the offense. literally. we pass 5 times a game.
we have 7 defensive starters and 6 offensive starters
biggest guy on oline is 275 smallest 195.
most guys on our team are under 6 foot tall.
most of the non starters haVE ALOT OF VARSITY EXOPERIENCE THOUGH, AS IN OUR RB wr de qb and secondary. but we will have about 5 people playing signifcant time both sides of the ball.

Great thread wrecks...not too much info, just enough to peak interest from other posters...
FYI
Judson finished #4 in the district last year during the regular season...they were not playing well...a whole bunch of inconsistency...a lot of players that had not played together for much time...they knew each other,loved each other, but many had played JV and sub-varsity the year before...so they lost games they should have won by getting mad at each other, I mean the defense would be really upset with the varsity and vice versa...but then came the playoffs, in my 44 years I have never seen a group of guys become more of a family in a short period of time than this team...

so, all that said...any team, any district, especially this one...if the team can play as a team and cover each others back...playofffs can happen for King...just got to believe...

Judson learned not to sleep on teams especially Wagner.

My Dad attended Carroll I grew up a Tiger at heart and still root for them when they aren't playing Judson....My Mom went to Ray....IDK her....
Although it's not the greatest facility, I'm looking fowards to playing at the "Rock Pile". Lots of tradition and just a great atmosphere along with lots of Judson memories(Churchill, Clark, Holmes, Yates, Eisenhower) and success at Alamo Stadium.

I actually wanted to be on the sideline of Alamo Stadium but since I'm a senior I won't be able to but I'll still go to the game!

As late in the season(week 9) as this game is...Judson should(and will be) firing on all cylinders by then...I feel sorry for EC, early in the season they might have had a shot, but by then the offense will be set and should be cookin' by then...so we will see...

PS...me and K9 will be up on the top row watching(futherest from the band we can get), come join us...

RR- with this new schedule, the number that travel will vary, but truly believe that if Judson is undefeated at that point in the season..."if we build, they will come"...not just to home games, but road games...parents this season know that this team and this teams defense is probably going to be the best in the state, hands down...scoring against us will be tough as long as our offense does not make silly mistakes, kind of like we did at the beginning of the year this last season...we will win many games...

Let me tell you what I know...Judson probably has the best defense in the state...if not, for sure top 3...the offense is going to be the question, should have really strong running game...it will be ,once again the cornerstone of the offense...very fast backs, most with some Varsity experience, good size...QB's are all very fast, proabably 4.4 speed for both of them...if the O-line can gel, it should be fun...talented WR's, but probably won't be used much, maybe quarter of the plays will be pass plays...

A lot has been said somewhere in this thread about the new 27-5A. It won't be a cakewalk for the Rockets. Several of the teams have 15-18 starters returning: King, Carroll, SS, Highlands, EC, and Memorial's coach is in his 2nd year of revitalizing the Vipers, and Wagner has already defeated the Rockets. Traveling to CC schools could be difficult. All of the above could be a mute point, if the Rockets develop offensively and the players remain focused and not become overconfident by reading the media and internet threads.

I agree, Carroll should be a hand full and playing in CC makes it harder. We at times have poked fun at the teams in 275A, but my hopes are that teams all bring it. I know that Wagner will be another hard game as well as EC so Judson had better stop thinking that by showing up they have already won.

That would be like asking Alpha Phi Alpha to change the Sphinx it is not happening. The stadium had to change because it was a health hazzard and it has to be shared with Wagner.

I really don't know what to expect out of them. They SHOULD be better after a year under Finley. From what I've heard, a lot of the players have been in the weight room all summer staying in shape and getting ready for the season. I'm just hoping for 5-5 at this point LOL

A lot has been said somewhere in this thread about the new 27-5A. It won't be a cakewalk for the Rockets. Several of the teams have 15-18 starters returning: King, Carroll, SS, Highlands, EC, and Memorial's coach is in his 2nd year of revitalizing the Vipers, and Wagner has already defeated the Rockets. Traveling to CC schools could be difficult. All of the above could be a mute point, if the Rockets develop offensively and the players remain focused and not become overconfident by reading the media and internet threads.

Carroll will not be an easy win trust me I grew up playing these kids in MS and I know their level of competition. When I came to Judson it was set higher but you still don't want to overlook any team no matter what you record against them is.

To be honest most of the valley schools I have seen have amazing bands and I noticed the Viper band does come to Buc Stadium for the Buc Parade every year and they are always one of the highlight bands so Rage has a point.

I'll be honest I think they are going to be 3-0 but the Battle of the Bridge is always a toss up game. No matter how good either team is it's always a tough game to choose between

Actually it's CBYFA I played for 5 years for the Tiger and yes we did have playoffs. We went every year :D lol The Mustangs were their too but they always got beat :D

I can hardly wait for the season to start...believe that Judson will need to bring their "A" game every week or what happened last year against Wagner will happen again this year...Judson overlooked Wagner and believe that is what cost them the last half of the season...it kind of took part of their heart and boy did they get "the razzin' of their life"...knew that Wagner would be tough in the near future, but they just looked by them and did not bring their "A" games that night, it was a tough loss for them to swallow...pray they are game ready every week...GO JUDSON!!!

They had a talented senior class last year and a great coach...Coach Gibbens will have them ready...they should give everyone a tough time...including Judson...They were in every game last year at half time, they just need to learn to play four quarters that comes with experience...they will be in every game this year if their juniors can step up and push the younger kids...:confused:

Yes they are!! I'm a little biased but, the present juniors did not lose a game from the 7th -9th grade. When they were sophmores, 14 of them moved up to Varsity. Of which 5 of them started (2 LB's, 1 CB, 1 RB and 1 QB). They were just underaged. The next two years is gonna be rough for the surrounding schools!! When they're seniors they're gonna be the team to beat in SA!!!

I watched those kids, and they surprised all of us. The QB from Woodlake that year goes to Wagner. So did another player from Woodlake. So i think Wagner grab the cream of the crop from that years 8th graders in the district. Morgan came after that group of kids, the coaches were Bailey, Mccullough,Anderson(at Judson), & Green (just left Judson). They had a pretty good staff. I think the closest game they had as Freshmen was against Madison, who they beat by 21. If your nephew wants to throw the ball he shoulda went to Alamo Heights!!

They had good JV and Freshmen teams but IDK how the varsity will play out as they make the move up.

King vs Gregory-Portland---GP (I think this could go either way. GP is SUPPOSED to have a good team, but they have really fallen off the last several years)

Carroll vs Laredo Alexander---CARROLL (they like to beat up on Laredo teams in non district. It makes them feel good about themselves)

East Central vs Steele---EAST CENTRAL (Don't know too much about Steele. I'll give the nod to EC)
