i notice when threads evolve they are often locked. is it a function of the topic, the controversy, or the change itself that leads to lock down? a weak off-season thread, i'm guessing, but it has come up several times recently. and do you guys get hit counts on which you could base some advertising income? if so, do people like me who come and go frequently look better on the counts than someone like lonny/tool who is probably on only once or twice daily for longer hours?

That name pisses me off. Texas Hammer is too close to Texas Headliner at a glance.

Threads get locked because we get off topic. Some thread titles generate more viewings, but the number of posts always depends on people saying something because of what somebody else wrote.

Controversial stuff makes for quick lock downs and that's the main culprit.

I don't get paid to post here, but I should! :D

Post counts depend on your personality. Some people read more and some talk more. It all comes back to hours on the board, how in-depth you post, how fast you type, and how many topics you want to talk about. I vary when I'm here, but it's usually for a while in the evening and at night. The amount of time I stay is determined by how much activity we have. Even I don't care to post on some threads.

dragonsdaddy,

A good title will draw more people to click on the thread and a bad title might not induce the same action. Threads get locked because they go so far away from the initial flow and intent of the discussion to the point where there's little hope of steering it back on course.

To your question about advertising...It's a combination of both. Generally, advertisers pay on the basis of page views. Pricing is usually structured on a cost per thousand pageviews basis, or CPM. However, they do like to know how much time the average visitor spends per visit because that's obviously more opportunities you have to be brainwashed by their ad. Repeat visitors is another stat they like to know...will your traffic be sustained over the length of the contract? Lately, we are doing fantastic on all three levels.

Blame Jim Adler. He's the one that gave me the idea. Besides, I can't help you've had a million different screen names and you have one close to mine, now! :D

When are you going to put me on the payroll? I'm your best customer! :D

I knew you were 25, but I thought you had some other one's too.

Here's a lawyer question, how about when you stopped posting in 2002? ;)

Under the direction of his attorney my client would
like to assert his 5th amendment privilege.
Further your honor...we would like envoke the motion..
and have a short period to speak with my client in
closed quarters.
