First off I want to say that LP played great, aggressive, and they are very good.
On that note I have a few points about the game.
-The Woodlands playcalling was terrible. I could not believe the lack of confidence these coaches showed in the players calling the most conservative game I have seen in a while. Also when they decided to throw the ball they called short passes that resulted in two disaster, partly by good plays by the LP D, and partly by poor execution. This is my problem with it; LP had at least 8-9 men in the box the entire game w/ the safeties playing up close for run support, why would you run a hitch or a screen pass? Almost everytime the Woods tried to throw deep they were behind the defense. Also if you throw the ball down the field and an interception occurs at least you have time to make a tackle and not let them get a huge play out of it.
-Special teams was a huge factor. LP only had ONE drive on the Woods D that ws over 50 yards. Why would you Pooch the ball to #8? I know that the returners are excellent but again it hows a lock of confidence in the players on those teams.
-LP fans were good for the most part, very spirited and excited, but there were some that I could not even believe what they were saying. I was sitting by a few that were comletely mocking and insulting a Woodlands Player that was injured because of a big hit. I thought that thi was very classless. There were other occasions during the game were this same kind of thing happened and there is no place for it in HS Football.
-Old Abe was not as intimidating as ya'll made it sound, it was a reat HS football enviroment but the whole intimidation factor just was built up a little too much I guess. the stadium was a lot smaller than expected.
-The Woodlands can play with the best teams in the state is they could adjust their playcalling to fait all their weapons they have on offense. #1, #22, and #29 are all threats and very fast. they roved that the friday night. We just need to mix them in with our recievers who are capable of big plays as well.
-Lufkin should go far in the playoffs if they keep up the way they
are playing. Good luck to ya'll and congrats on the district championship.

As a Lufkin fan, it is an embarassment that our own people would act that way. In truth, for a few on that side, that is what they live to do each game period. They would not sit on the homeside if you GAVE them free tickets to do so. With that said, it is only a small minority of the Lufkin fans that behave like that on the visitors side and they should be shown the gate and told never to return. Most sit there because it is the only way they will see a Lufkin game and some have sat over there for years and have never caused problems for anyone. Your not the first out-0f-town visitor that has witnessed this type of behavior from some of the Lufkin fans sitting on the visitors side and you probably won't be the last. The Lufkin ISD needs to realize what happens on that side of the stadium is a direct reflection on Lufkin. What our fans do over there is what the visitors will remember about Lufkin and it needs to stop.
The Woodlands has a good team, the game was really closer than the score, but offensive turnovers like that will kill a good team everytime. Our defense has capitalized on other teams mistakes all year, the defense is our team strength and our offense is potent enough to take advantage of those opportunities. I knew our team speed would be a big difference in the game.
The Woodlands should be good for a couple of wins in the playoffs, maybe more.

Oldmanwoodlandsfan, glad you made the trip and sorry for some of our fans acting as they did. As always your team is very good at running that sweep. We never give up that many yards ,but to honest LP was playing you guys up the middle most of the night. Now we told you that our D was very good and you found out the hard way. Hewitt will burn you if you go to his side too many times.Outlaw was letting his speed guys cover the corners, and you got good yardage. Ryan is the fastest we have seen this year, if he had about 15 more pounds he would be really a threat. He seems to go down easy when the pack hit him. What ,s up with Drabeck is he still hurting. Hope you guys well in the playoffs.

Thanks a lot, I know that meveryone has fans in their stands with no class, it is just always dissapointing to see. I'm glad most LP fans are not that way.
Drabek is not hurt anymore, we just WON'T throw it to hime, don't ask me why...

Well, I have to agree with you on every point. #1 was not %100 and he was are biggest threat. Shooting ourselves in the foot on Offense but with a great defense! LP fans on the visitor side, what can you say, the live for that crap. Our coaching, needs work. Commercials in between plays, annoying! Ole Abe, AWESOME! Congrats PACK on the title! All teams have a few to more then a few bad fans. I was on the visitors side and heard just a "few" people making comments that I felt were inapropriate but I saw THOUSANDS of other fans that were there to watch the game and that were RESPECTFUL. Any reason you can't comment on the many over the few? If I go to a Woodlands game and sit on the home side can you guarantee that I would not hear one stupid trash talking fan? Especially if I go there looking to find one. I doubt it. There is good and bad in every race, economic class, and in every HS Football team's fan base. That is just a fact of life. Just like winning and losing. You win some and lose some no matter who is 100% or not. Why even bring up that #1 was not 100%. Is that your way of saying that The Woodlands would have won if he was? Lane was nowhere near 100% last year when we played y'all in case you forgot. Just imagine what he could have done if he was. Maybe 300+ yards and 7 TD's.

Yeah i have heard about some of our fans on the visitor side but almost every team has a few idiots. I never hear anything like that on the home side. I did hear one thing that irritated me when i was going down at half. The Woodlands band was playing and one guy stood up and said watch this and when the band started running he yelled run forest run!! I looked at him like an idiot and shook my head at him. The Woodlands band was great and so was the drill team and i do not even know much about it but they are impressive. On Abe last night!! It was dead last night compared to what it is usually in big games. Honestly, it has been dead for all the games this year?? It seems like Lufkin fan's have become spoiled and just expect to win. The Lufkin player's feed off the noise i do not get it?? Lufkin fans are always great in the playoffs but not always at home. Abe has a great reputation because of the bottom line!! They rarely EVER lose there and the vast majority of the time they destroy teams by 21 plus points. Even the top 10 teams they beat there by at least double digits. Abe has earned that rep. You might have not been that impressed but your team still lost 42-17 and that is what counts the most.

The closer the game, the more it rocks - the game was really only close at 21-14, but for just a few minutes. I actually thought The Woodz playcalling was pretty good - you just needed 18 qb'ing the whole game. Without the D scoring 21, it would have been closer, but I think our O still would have put up more points. And, yes, the pooch kickoff was beyond stupid - but the main problem was just bad kick coverage.

It took me a day to let the emotions settle down. I will add my two cents...
Discount the Lufkin fans on the visitor's side. Last year, the Lufkin fans were the greatest; thus, one could conclude we saw the real fans. I can speak of one Woodlands fan in the stands which was inappropriate.
Woodlands racked up some yardage. This game was lost on turnovers -- PERIOD! I'm not sure it was unfair to put QB Dillon Pound in a situation (district win) like this; especially when he was the 3rd string QB. Not having a starting QB this late in the season is the root of the problem. Saying that, Parsons contribution was good for the team. I hope they figure this out in the playoffs.
Without TO's, we were 4 point behind. These teams are pretty good & will do well in the playoffs IF THERE ARE NO TURNOVERS!
We just witness a Woodlands "poor offense" put up some numbers on the "best defense" while stopping Lufkin's "best offense" in district. There are many good things that came out of this game; regardless of the score.
This is a wake-up call for the Woodlands! Play SMART! We had a chance!
Drabek? Not playing well. That one interception to him should of NEVER been thrown. I'm not sure if this is a mistake of the QB or Coaching -- as I think they give the QB the choice. Throwing an outside pass like that was not a good thing against this defense. I like the long ball against this team.
I still like blocking. We did pretty good. Still have a few holes which need to be fixed ASAP.

You sound like some Longview fan's!! ;) Last time i checked turnovers are a GIANT part of the game and Lufkin is good at causing and taking advantage of them. All great teams are!! If you lost 21-20 and you blame turnovers is one thing, but losing 42-17 and still saying that is very amusing. I would never say that if my team lost by 25 points I would say we got our butt kicked!! The defense gave up more yards then i could imagine last night and i was shocked!! but the big fact is they got it done by causing turnovers and holding The Woodlands to 3 second half points. The Lufkin defense completely changed their scheme last night and it was nauseating to me. They still got the job done in a BIG way. The scoreboard and history will say it was just another blow out at Abe no big deal. LOL It does not matter how they do it they just do it!! The Woodlands was the first team to get any decent amount of yards on the Lufkin defense all year. KF held TWS to about 100 yards and they lost 21-7. Numbers mean nada! The only thing that matters is the bottom line!!

I think its called a hard hitting defense that causes those fumbles. I knew it was a matter of time before they came on here making excuses. You got whooped!! face it. P.S. I remember their were some Woodlands fans on the Lufkin side last year talking smack as well, so their are bad ones in every bunch. The band was good.

Bottomline correct. The win goes to Lufkin. Congrads!
Just pointing out that we put up some offense against the best defense & stopped the best offense.
But as with Klein Forest, turnovers play a part. We have had our share of good fortune.

Giving up 21 points to the Lufkin offense is not stopping them. I would never say our defense stopped a team if we gave up some points to them. I would just say we held them to X amount of points. If we shut them out then that is another story. Either way I think your team can go pretty far in the playoffs.

You have to give credit to LP for the big plays on D, but they should have never happened is the playcalling wasn't so horrible. Our D was very impressive again and I am proud of how they played with being on an extremely short field most of the game.

Not trying to pick a fight but if those two passes resulted in catches(positive yardage, first downs or TD's) and if the guy did not have the ball stripped from his hands would you still say those plays should not have been called and the coaches made bad play calls. Never mind the fact that our Defense made some good plays. It was just bad play calling on the offensive coordinators part huh. What plays should they have called anyway? I have just seen too many people dog the coaches, the play calling, the refs etc after a loss but they hardly ever do it after a win. It can never have anything to do with the fact that another team just outplayed them that night and managed to put more points on the board. There always has to be the "bad play calling" thing or the "coaches messed up" or anything else you can come up with. And I am not referring to just our game. The same can be said for most of the "Ranked" teams that happen to lose a game or not dominate a game like they thought they would.

I hate to get into this stuff, First the Woodlands defense was the best we have seen this year, but came up short on what I expected to see, I was not overly impressed. The other thing, Klein Forest had 19 1st downs and 400 yards to The Woodlands 4 1st downs and 100 yards, but you didn't see them coming in here to say, if you didin't run the kick off back 99 yards for a TD and a 85 yard fumble return for a TD, we could a should have been closer or won. No, they took the 21-7 defeat as a loss and went on. I hate when people do that. Our kicking game made The Woodlands play on a long field most of the night and over 133 yards of defensive return yardage and 3 touchdowns don't even show up in our game stats except on the scoreboard. So what, the Woodlands had rushing yardage against Lufkin. The point is your offense gave 21 points to Lufkin while only scoring 17 for The Woodlands. I will give you an extra 100 yards rushing against our defense any day in return for three defensive turnovers for touchdowns and 21 points. We also did not have one of our other runningbacks for this game out due to an injury, so maybe we have an excuse for not scoring more than 42 points. I don't get it, you beat someone 42-17 and they talk about if we didn't do this or that or if we would have just scored more points....duhhh.....we may have played a closer game or won the game. Is it that hard to accept the fact that the little town of Lufkin can beat The Woodlands in football two years in a row.
I am sorry, I just get tired of hearing all the excuses for why we are 60-7 the past 4 years and how we are not suppose to be competing with and beating the big schools and what not. I can honestly say, that if someone beat my tail 42-17, I could not dig deep enough to find a justifiable excuse for that. Anyway, Good luck to the The Woodlands in the playoffs and I guess this may be our last game against you for a long time depending on how realignment goes next year. It's been fun.

I totally give credit to these players for making these picks, but the first one was right into his hands nowhere near anyone else, and the next was a great play by #11. These plays should never have been called though with 9 men in th box. You do not run a screen or a hitch, you throw over the top and then if the DB makes a great play and picks it your offense has time to recover and make a tackle. These plays should never have been called with the dafense that LP was playing.

The coaches probably watched tape and probably noticed Lufkin had given up a few screen passes for td's. Vs The Woodlands Lufkin was not their aggressive blitzing self so you are right screens and hitch passes would be harder to come by. So i agree with you to extent but Lufkin was blitzing at times and they probably were hoping they would catch them in one. That is the gamble you take when calling a screen. Hewitt just proved why he is one of the best if not the best corners in the state. He led the state in interceptions last year and already has 6 this year and most teams rarely throw to his side. He should be 1st team all state again. Game over let's move on. What happened to Collins did they lose that many players last year?? I know they lost their qb and other rb but i knew they had Goodson coming back?? Is he all they have?? The defense has really really struggled also?? What happened??

I have to say the LP defense was there and made the game. I had some concerns about the ref's but bad calls went both ways so that's a wash. I was threatened by an LP fan for booing the ref's call. I don't think I have seen that from any other location but, LP is the only other team in our district that has a strong following and sits on both sides.
During the tailgate, we met several LP parents, grandparents and fans and enjoyed great football conversations. By the way, I really like the programs and the player profiles. Nice job...
We had a poor showing because we were only given 1000 tickets and told that when they were gone LP fans would have the rest purchased before we could arrive in Lufkin. This kept allot of band and Highstepper parents as well as students away. We now know better.
I will be behind Lufkin and Klein Forest in their fight to the division II title.
Good Luck!

Duke - I think I posted on the other thread that I agree on the commercials - annoying - do other replay screens not have them? They have actually gotten better in terms of the sheer number, but the volume is way to high for them. Glad you had a good time and I think your team could make some playoff noise if you will go with one qb - what's wrong with not having 18 in the whole game?
On the screen pass play - I would have called it because that is the one play LP has given up two big td's on during the year - over-pursuit. I think the guys have learned though, Mandela sniffed it out and played it beautifully - I wouldn't try it again this year.

Hey Woodlands, is it just me or is Drabek still a little sluggish since his accident he was in? He just does not seem to be as quick, and not making cuts very well? I was very impressed with #5 receiver, that bou has some great leaping ability as well. Also, if the coaches would start faking the hand off to #1 and rolling him out for some short passes, that could be very scary!!!, that boy is fast!!! Good luck, and hope you bring the district a Div1 title!!!

Drabek has lost a step since the accident, also I don't think his love for Football has him wanting to play as much as Baseball. I think he is out there as a decoy now. #5 is our best WR and will be back next year with #18 at QB. HOPEFULLY they can form a one two punch with some experience together. I still think we need more help in our play calling, we are just to scared to take a chance on a big play.
