Turf is being put on Abe Martin Staduim...and people are fighting over was it a good idea to put turf or not. In my opinion I think it is a great idea and a good invention at that. Plus it will save money on mowing, painting, ect. People are saying how the money should go to new books and other sports...but if they sit down and think...all the money we will save over the years will help buy those books and help other sports. The field is looking like progress is going fast for the date to be finished was predicted do be in 120 days. Yall know my opinion and others as well...so put what you think about turf. Just no down-grading...please!

I think it's better for the players that are actually playing on it. I wish our district would quit wasting funds and get the turf instead of trying to build a brand new stadium. I would love to see a red-turfed field with black endzones! :D

so far i'm impressed with the new stuff. it is as good if not better than grass because of its consistancy. hope it holds up well. we are only 3 years in so don't know, but it is holding up great. it is better now than it is early in its life due to the tire shreddings which take a while to settle in.

the new safe turf is great but i the old hard as concrete astrodome stuff was horrible. that stuff ended many careers. i think it is a very good investment if it holds up like ddaddy said.

Trust me, the tire shreddings never settle in. That is the only negative thing about the turf.

The astro play is fine, the best playing surface for football imo. But Leander has the old astro turf, and i hate it. I think astro turf is the worst playing surface in all of football, so many injuries. I wish we would just go back to the grass field that we played on in the 90's and just trash this astro turf.

Yeah AC Bible's looked pretty bad when I saw it last year. It doesn't look soft at all after it's there for a few years.

You bet, artificial grass is the best idea for players, maintainence and generating revenue for the school. The fact that the football program generates the majority of the funds that support the other sports only means turf will be a winning investment for every sport. For an example, the Panthers played 15 football games last year before approximately 175,000 plus total fans and generated more than $200,000.00 in revenue profit back into the schools general fund, football program and other sports. Having the artificial grass only expands the possiblitiy of revenue for the school. We will host many 1A-3A playoff games, band competitions and other events will be held at Abe Martin in the years to come, you could not do that with a grass field. This will be the best sponsor money ever spent at Lufkin.

Turf grass saved CCISD's District Stadium last year. With three teams (Lake, Creek, and Brook) playing on natural grass and with lots of rain two years ago the field was an ugly, dangerous, quagmire. Several opponents actually refused to play on the field, and more than a couple of home games were rescheduled at other area stadiums at quite an additional cost to the district. A bond vote that included a new $20+ million dollar stadium was voted down and they came up with the turf grass and a fairly complete overhaul of the exiting facility just in time for last season. New pressbox, scoreboard, etc. and we now have a reasonably nice stadium rather than the embarrassment that was there before and the taxpayers saved beau coup dollars. Looks and plays like natural grass, holds up to the Texas downpours, much safer than the old-style Astro turf, and versatile enough to allow other events that will bring money into the district. I have actually been amazed at how many new turf fields we played on this past year. Seems like a lot of people like the new surface for a variety of reasons. If it turns out not to be durable there will be a lot of new surfaces in the near future.

i think that turf is easier to maintain and maybe in a couple of years it would have paid off,but the injurys are far more likely to happen on turf than regular grass.turf looks cool and everything, but i give it 2 thumbs down.with out a doubt.

I like what Williams Stadium has... I think the name of the turf is like "Real Grass" or something similar. It feels very comfortable to run on IMO.

As a player, one major difference that is good in turf compared to grass, is that the likelyhood of there being a ditch or whole, which could mess up your ankles while your running is less.

there are some statistics on turf vs grass which don't support the injury fear as expressed by phenom. hope they are right.

Sorry to change the subject...but what about Jumbo-Trans? I mean you can still talk about the turf...but just your opinion on both...?

I love the stuff Coppell was one of the first school in texas to get it back in 1999, ive love playing on it all four years..we went from astro turf to real grass turf, i got to play on both during my middle school dayz and my high school dayz, i like how real grass actolly feels like well real grass lol...our indoor practice feild is astro turf and i personally hated playing on it, it hurts to fall on it, and you can where cleats on it...

If your talkingthe newer turf such as the Astro-Play or the other newer surfaces that play a lot like naturual grass then yes turn is definits good. Though if we are talking the stuf flike they have in to dome,Thorne,Pasadena then no. That stuff is a knee or ankle injury just waiting to happen.

Saw several players slip on the new turf grass surface last year so I don't expect to see a lot of injuries due to twisted ankles, knees, etc. Problem with the old Astro turf is that it does not allow the foot to slide when the player cuts or get tackled and therefore puts tremendous strain on the weakest points, ie. knees, ankles, etc. Injuries are part of the game but they shouldn't be inflicted by the playing surface.

Saw a huge difference when the games were played in Rice Stadium...team had very few ankle problems all year and presto, first game on the old style carpet and we had at least 4 players leave the game at one point or another with bad wheels. Three games in a row on that carpet definitely took it's toll. Would have been nice to see our QB at full strength vs. SV; not sure it would have made the difference in the outcome but it surely made it easier to contain him and focus on the other two backs. SV sure put a hurtin' on him; one of the guttiest performances I have ever witnessed to see him keep bouncing (limping?) back time after time.
