10. Uses only public transport. Eats only organic food. Vegetarian and buys only recycled consumers items.

9. Have an electric vehicle, whose battery represents a greater environmental hazard than the gasoline used in the same car.

8. Drives a Hybrid Car and diligently recycles. Refuses to buy bottled water in plastic bottles preferring the chemically treated public water from a faucet.

7. Refuses to use grocery store plastic bags, preferring to a reusable cloth bag, made in a Chinese sweat shop with underage labor.

6. Is fan of teams that wear green uniforms.

5. Green consumer, after all the money spent is green.

4. Does not have time to sort trash. Everything goes into a black garbage bag.

3. So what if a few trees have to be cut down to build a new freeway.

2. Start drilling off-shore and in the Arctic now. Removes every bit of grass in the yard and replace with concrete so there is parking for the pick-up, boat and RV.

1. Thinks recycling is using a bike more than once. Owns the biggest gas guzzling truck money can buy. Thinks there should be a pump-jack on every street corner. Eats meat at every meal.

Yes it is... I even bought some of those crappy bulbs to see what they'll do... The demo at Walmart was cool but the bulbs suckola... That's my try... Drill, invent... conserve... coal... wind... oil... gas... nuclear... little squirrels on a bike... You're telling me that the good folks of the USofA cannot fix this problem? I don't believe it... How come the mercury filled bulbs, that are hazardous to our heath are okay and we can't twist on a few more nuclear reactors or build more refining capacity because of some damn moth or rat?

We're friggin' nuts...

The whole GREEN fiasco is just an organized way of fleecing the sheep-like public of their funds and making a few guys and gals enormously rich.......like the non-green and highly hypocritical Oscar and Nobel award winner and constant blow-hard AlGore, who is only close to toxic gases when he opens his pie-hole and speaks......

GREEN....this....;)

I am not certain I buy into the Global Warming caused by humans etc. but I find myself growing more and more green as I get older. It's responses like this that puzzle me.

*I'd rather not suck the exhaust from a tailpipe, so it stands to reason to me, that less smoke=better.
*Littering is bad, and obviously can take years to degrade and very likely can cause harm depending on what it is.
*Energy use just seems to make sense from an economic standpoint as well as conservation, to real geo-political issues.

So, is the last year I traded my quasi gas guzzling Acura TL for a Honda Fit. I helped my mother in law research her new car, the Prius. I try to recycle what I can at home and work. I have become very concious of my lack of energy efficiency and tried to maximize it when I can.

I also try each and every time I go to my car or from my car into a building to pick up a piece of trash and dispose of it properly. I got the idea after passing by the same can of spam for literally about 7 months of being in my work parking lot. Not a big difference in the grand scheme of things, but you do what you do, right?

I applaud you for your efforts. I think most people, in their own way maybe not even realizing it, do at least one thing on the "green" list. But I also think some of us are tired of living in a "buzz word" world and tend to feel it is getting shoved down our throats. To me, most of this stuff is common sense and nothing new, except the weird light bulbs, which by the way, I have. But the fact that it is now the "in" thing to do to be "green" irks me. And it is all because of the buzz word.

I tend to tune out things the minute I hear the word green. Tree loving hippies used to get looked on. But now, if you're not green, the artic meltdown will be all your fault.

To be honest, I think they need to bring back some of the old school ways of making people conscious of how we treat our world and get away from the PC crap. Remember the add where the little boy had his own steering wheel and did everything his dad did including the smoking. That was a strong statement. They could adapt that and use it for all sorts of things these days. But the one add that will always bring me to tears is the one where the American Indian is standing at the side of the road with a tear when the person threw trash out of their car window.

To me these go allot farther than telling me to live green.

I'm a RED girl. :D

I understand what you are saying. I try not to be a cliche and have only told a couple of people about the litter thing, until now I guess. The others were kids on a Mission trip. I agree about the modelling behavior.

Actions speak louder than words. I have always been interested in alternative building/fuel etc. Like you said a lot of it makes sense, but certainly a lot is nonsense. How do you tell the difference? Is it better to be safe than sorry?

I don't know how to tell the difference. I try to learn, but at the same time, try to do what makes sense to me and try to teach my kids to use their heads. By the way, littering is one of my pet peeves. I am glad you picked up that can. Like I said, they need to bring back some of those harsh but true ads.

I don't know what the answer is, but it does not appear that being wasteful and intentionally not doing things, because you think it's political, is the best choice.

That probably applies to a lot of things though.

Just to clear things up a bit....when I refer to GREEN I refer to the global hype/machine that is constantly generating fear messages over the news and the internet, and is marketing ways to "get green" for profit.

I am not referring to regular people being personally responsible and filling their recycling bins for trash day or picking up a piece of trash blowing by their home.

The the former is dishonorable...the later is quite honorable....;)
