View Full Version : Media types want controversy (surprise!)

Listening to some of these guys talk, you can tell they are really playing up the controversy angle with USC-Texas-Virginia Tech. The media never enjoy the status quo because controversy sells, and you can tell they are looking for any excuse to stir things up. I don't think USC and UT are going to give them the chance to do that though. Both of those teams have met and conquered every challenge they've faced so far.

They are pointing to VT's game against Miami this weekend as the measuring stick. Miami has around the 50th rated total offense in the country, so this should be a low scoring game given Miami has one of the best defenses as does VT. Personally, I think VT's game against Florida State is the better game to evaluate them in with respect toe USC-UT because the 'Noles actually have an offense.

When USC comes from behind to win a game (multiple times this year), they "just played with the heart of a champion" but when Texas does the same thing those same people think we should lose votes.

Probably because Arizona St. and Oregon and Notre Dame are a lot better teams than Oklahoma St. don't you think. ;)

Did you ever consider that the rest of the world knows Va Tech deserves to be ranked above Texas? It's based on ratings...and controversy that the rest of the football world agrees with is going to get ratings......ALL of Va. Tech's games will overshadown Texas...I wonder why? Perhaps they are better opponents than Texas? Just perhaps....

That's the funniest post I've read......in the last few minutes. "The rest of the football world agrees", you must be calling the Hokies home page "the rest of the world".

You'd do well to ditch the hater blinders, keeps you from seeing the whole picture.

Imagine someone from Texas telling someone to take blinders off. LOL. Burnt Orange clouds the vision of the whole state.

Some of you guys are worrying too much about Virginia Tech. If Texas wins out, VT is a non-factor and the Horns will be in the Rose Bowl... period. It is mathematically impossible for VT to jump Texas based on the computer polls alone which means there would have to be significant swing in the human polls. If Texas wins out and wins by good margins, the human polls may shift a little but not enough for VT to jump.

Most BCS experts are on record as saying that if Texas wins out, it is virtually impossible for VT to jump Texas. Frankly, I'm more worried about the hangover I'm gonna have when I wake up than I am about VT.

You are dead on right about this and I think that's what has the "haters" stirred up. They know if we win out, we got the Rose Bowl, and the haters are going nuts.

Yeah but Okla st is beyond brutal!! They barely beat God awful teams like Army in the non conference schedule and got absolutely destroyed by average teams like A&M and Nebraska i believe?? Notre Dame is far from a Okla st this year without question. I forget the other team that played USC close but i promise you they were 10 times the team Okla st is. But Hey, I think Texas is very legit!! but you could sure understand the doubts after this game. I was shocked!!

This truly is a product of the media... especially ESPN. Hard to blame ESPN. They are a business and as a network that carries VT games, it is in their best interest to hype the Hokies up as much as possible. The thing is that a vast majority of the country doesn’t buy into ESPN's generated hype. All the recent polls show Texas and USC to be the nation's clear favorites with VT in the distance.

The media has to hype this. If Texas and USC are a clear #1 and #2 and there is no hope for anybody else, there goes you drama and all of a sudden, fewer people are watching Lou Holtz babble like a nursing home mental patient on College Gameday Final.

The same thing happened with Cal last year. The controversy that surrounded Cal was a complete creation of the media. The same is true with VT this year. All you need to remember is that the suits at ESPN can say what they want on air, but they all know this race is all but wrapped up and the final BCS rankings will show as much. Texas or USC will have to lose or play a close game against a bad opponent for either to worry about their Rose Bowl trips.

I've never seen the BCS standings have as clear of a #1 and #2 as they did last week. USC and Texas will play if they take care of business like they are favored to do.

I think USC, UT, and VTech are all very very even and that is why there should be a playoff. I think the top 8 should play. Just like in hs 1 loss should not kill you. I have seen 1 loss teams prove they are the best. I am not saying it woudl happen this year but you never know. PLAYOFFS only make sense.

That is why i hope for mulitple unbeaten teams so they will look dumber and dumber and they will finally have to give in. I was sad Georgia got beat today!! Not because i like Georgia but because i hate this BS i mean BCS system!! It is even more garbage then the div1 and div2 that the pathetic UIL created in Texas hs football.

I don't think you are going to get that this year. Virgina Tech is traditionally a team that struggles in the second half of their seasons. I do not see them beating Miami or Florida State should they meet in the ACC title game. I also don't see UCLA winning out for the simple fact that they still have USC on the schedule. Alabama is not a great team. LSU should beat them.

I really think there will only be two unbeatens at the end of this year. That is good in one way becuase I believe Texas will be one of those unbeatens and that will mean a trip to the Rose Bowl. However, part of me will be ticked because having only two unbeatens left and playing for the NC will in many ways validate the joke that is the BCS..

My true hope... Texas wins out and VT, USC, UCLA and Alabama all lose a game so there is like a massive 7 team log jam to see which 1 loss team goes to Pasadena. The controversy there would be epic.

I know... it's funny. :D Texas didnt just barely come back and win however. They pretty much blew out Oklahoma St. Oklahoma St (Homecoming game) and they came out fired up on all cyclinders and Texas had somewhat of a hangover coming off the Tx Tech game. Texas still blows them out.

I also think its totally funny how teams like Florida St play crappy for weeks against totally inferior teams and they're still labeled a "Good team." I'm sorry but teams like Wake Forest and Maryland arent very good at all and both took Florida St deep into the 4th QT.

But, Nebraska (who is a very average Big-12 team) destroyed Wake Forest 33-3.

Plus, Iowa St (Big-12) destroying Iowa (Big-10) apparently doesnt mean anything to these ACC clowns.

We'll see how it all shakes out. I still seeing Florida St losing to (Clemson & Florida) and even Miami losing to (Va Tech & Virginia).

I also see Ohio St, Tx Tech, Colorado and Oklahoma all being top #25 teams come Dec. 1.

Funny thing how the story of the week last week was brad smith rushing and passing for more than 200 yards each.

This week Vince shatters that record, nobody sais anything.
Why, guess it is just another day at the office for vince.

Ya... please do. I liked what Herbstreit said today. " Va Tech hasnt proved to me they can play outside their home stadium like Texas did when they traveled to Ohio St and won a huge road game." :D I think alot of the voters feel the same way.

HAHAHAHA...OK a top 25????

Just like I see Florida St and Miami barely being top #25 in a couple of weeks. :D Their both going to lose games and drop.

Heck.. even the voters are starting to say that Florida St isnt looking good. Go read it.

But, oh no. Look whose starting to pop in the top #25 votes but Oklahoma. Colorado just popped back and should probably stay there until the Big-12 Title game against Texas where they will be about #22nd going into it.

Florida St will probably be about #20th when they play Va Tech in the ACC title game. Florida St is going to lose to probably Clemson & Florida dropping them very far. WATCH slip-knot. :p

And you have to like what Herbstreit said today... " Va Tech hasnt proved they can play a tough game away from home." Wow, the 1st game of the year and they almost lost to NC State away from home !!!!! hahahahaha

Va Tech barely beat NC State !!!!!!! Dang I just looked at the overall college rankings.. Va Tech barely beat NC State by 4pts and NC State is ranked #43 in the country !!!! What a joke...... please slippy !!

I would say a lot but I won't I will just say this since you are talikng about polls and what people think.

Go take a look at the Coaches poll and the Harris Pole. The gap between UT and USC got bigger between this week and last week but the gap between UT and VTech got smaller...so you are right dude the voters are starting to see :D

MIAMI up to 5th and FSU up to 8th so yea the voters really don't respect these team like you say dude.

Talk about no respect for the BIG XII Texas Tech dropped one spot in the polls and they won!!
