View Full Version : D-1 playoffs, Region III

First round will feature two games, with possibly all four teams undefeated

21-5A rep Lamar vs 22-5A rep Westfield both are 9-0 with one game left

23-5A rep N. Shore vs 24-5A rep Pearland, both are 9-0, one game left

second round: (my predictions)

12-0 Westfield vs 12-0 North Shore, at Galena Park ISD stadium, North Shores home field)

I think the winner of that game, if it happens wil be GUARENTEED a trip to state final vs either SLC or Euless Trinity...there is no other team in region III that can stop Westfield or North Shore, and region IV appears to be soft this year in D-1

I agree with you. I think Westfield and North Shore will be the class of that Region 3 bracket for sure, but Pearland always seems motivated to play NS. Shore will have to be careful and not get caught looking ahead to the revenge game.

v2the4
10-29-2005, 04:16 PM
thats true KT2000...if Shore is caught looking ahead, then they will lose to Pearland, at their own ballpark. Additionally, they havent played anyone nearly have as good as Pearland this year, while Pearland hasnt really been battle tested themselves, but their district foes are better than North Shore's....

but regardless, I think if Shore gets by Pearland, then the winner of the Shore/Westfield game will more than likely end up in the state finals...but, I dont want to count out Lamar..but then again....beating the hell out Milby and Sam Houston doesnt count in the postseason

I am by no means saying the teams we play in our district are good, but who on earth has Pearland played in their district thats really any better? Ball is good and then there is nothing. At least Dobie and LP are usually ranked somewhere in the local rankings. I know that doesn't mean much...I do expect the Oilers to be fired up as usual and F. Whitaker to be at his best. Should be a good one. I believe it will be Friday the 11th at GPISD.

Neither in district foes are steller for Shore and Pearland. One thing is for sure, there is no love loss between the two and no fear on either side. Pearland will come to play and Shore can't afford to look ahead for a rematch without dealing with what seems to be an annual playoff event. Whitaker is much stronger than last year and really grew up against Shore in the playoffs last year as a sophmore. Mark this one in the calender because its going to be a great game.

The only problem with your scenario is that playoff games are played at neutral sites. There will not be a second round playoff at Galena Park ISD stadium with North Shore hosting.

When did we go from playing playoffs games in neutral sites to playing at home? Last year Pearland play at home their first playoff game now we are playing at Galena Park?

Its terrible when 4 teams 10-0 have to meet in the first round of the playoffs.
I wonder who was the genius at UIL to come with this great idea.

ktcarl and whoever else,
the first two rounds are at GPISD!!!!!!!!!!! Because we lost both coin flips last year. If you play the same team the following year then it is automatically played at your place. That is a fact. If we beat Pearland and Westfield takes care of Lamar it is at our place period.

That was the agreement with Pearland and Westfield if they meet, to swap the home sites every year. both games will be played at the Big House in GPISD. Don't count on NS being layed back against Pearland and looking ahead to Westfield. Pearland is tough and and Shore knows better than to take a playoff opponent lightly. I think Lamar will give Westfield a tough game. There are 4 undefeated teams in this scenario and all of them are good.

The entire Div. 1 bracket looks brutal. Last year Div. 2 was loaded. Looks like Div. 1 is the toughest road this year.

North Shore vs Pearland and Westfield vs Lamar now look more inviting to see than ET vs SLC. Lots of great football first round D1 region 3.

Just Like they had no problem with pearland last yr. if it hadnt been for the field goal of the crossbar and the failed 2 point conversion or p-land being stopped on the final drive at north shore 25 north shore mite not of even made it to the second round.

Good chance of the NS / Westfield winner going all the way. Both teams have
top notch defenses and great scoring offenses. Both teams are ranked high in offense and defense catagories in the area. The Chronicle finally put Shore in the states' top 10 today. Just as long as they don't rank them number one I'm OK with that. Interesting that some polls have SLC being knocked off. I think if they have a weakness it is with their defense. What SLC can do is just outscore their opponent in an offensive fireworks display but history shows that usually will collapse against a strong defense. It's getting crunch time.
Let's get it on..............

North Shore will be tested to the limits in two weeks. If they are looking forward to playing Westfield they maybe going home early this year.

I have followed both of these teams for a number of years and both are dominant this season.

I give the nod to North Shore because of the home field advantage but the nod is a close nod.

Playoff time....Westfield fans will travel so the "Home Field" sort of evens itself out. North Shore looked "Human" against the Woodlands while Westfield has rolled so far....so I'm gonna go with Westfield...for now...still a few games to go.

even though you have the same amount of fans there it doesnt mean you still dont have home field advantage. last year westfield had home field advantage because we played in their backyard. they know their field, especially since it was raining. our guys were slipping all over the place. now they are on playing on our home field. now to you that might not say anything but to a player that means everything, shore has not lost on this field since it has opened up and i think westfield has never played here. so as a player you are thinking to yourself they have to come to our home to beat us and if they do more power to them, but they will have a hard time trying to do it. it is totally a mental thing with high school football. and as for when we played woodlands that was a great defensive game for the shore we held the highlanders to only 7 points at which they scored in the 1st or 2nd quarter. and look at what they have done since that game. that game really set the tone for both our defense and our offense. now westfield has been demolishing these 22-5A teams but not as impressive as the 04 shore team but they are close to that level. but i tell you what that game is going to be great and the winner of that one will win state. the great thing about this thread is that we are not players so we can look forward to games in the future no matter who we play in the first round but dont get me wrong the
pearland game and the westfield vs. lamar games are going to be good. but i cant help but look forward to the UTvs. USC of high school football. Texas football is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know where people are getting the idea Shore will be looking to Westfield before Pearland. I can guarantee Aymond and company will not take Pearland lightly and will concentrate on one game at a time. Pearland is very good again this year. As for last years game at the Rig, Pearland got beat and if they were the better team they would have won. There are always " if's" about a game. Shore went to Spring stadium and got a butt whippin'. No "if's" from our side on that one. This is a different year and different teams. Region 3 will have the best 1st round in the state. Any way you slice it, there is gonna be some good high school ball being played here in 2 weeks.

Well, we did lose players to A&M, Tech, UCLA, etc. but the Westfield defense has actually outperformed last years team. This years team average allowed is 154.83 while last years was 250.

Before you mention the PAM game where Charles put 400 on 'em, let's back that game out and last year allowed is 218.

Well I wouldn't exactly call Pearland a slow growth area either, I'm sure new schools are somewhere in your future as well. Right now, just keep Fostett (sp?) ready for Shore and let distant future take care of itself.

By the way, last years Westfield D allowed 17 points per game while this years allowed 7.

I see everyone is overlooking 20-5A, I guess that because Willowridge's program has come apart at the seams......Fort Bend Thurgood Marshall does not have any playoff experience, so I can't make any bold predictions.

However, if you think playing this school is a cakewalk, they are going to be surprised. Your coaches better not be taking them for granted.

I have seen most of the schools play this year given the Thurs and Sat. games, mainly Katy, Lamar, Pearland and Marshall......

I was only impressed by Marshall and Katy....North Shore looks good. Playoff experience is everything, that's why I give it to Katy. I would gladly pay double to see Marshall and Katy.

Katy gets and easy playoff schedule

Due to hurricane Rita, the two remaining undefeated teams in 19-5A (Katy and Strake Jesuit) have not played, and will not play this year. Going into the final week, Katy plays Alief Taylor, and SJ plays Cinco Ranch. Should both teams win, then technically they "tie" for the district championship and the seeding for Div. 2 would be handled by coin toss.

To get a jump on scouting the first potential playoff opponent, the "toss" was made yesterday and SJ won making them the first seed should both teams win this weekend. If it holds up, then Katy will play undefeated FB Marshall in the first round, and SJ will probably play FB Clements. A Katy v. Marshall matchup in the opening round will be a good one. Other potential D2 regional opponents are Humble and Galveston Ball. Katy's already played Humble earlier this year, but you are mistaken if you think getting out of Region 3 will be "easy".

Cinco Ranch is playing their best football of the year right now and has a good chance to beat Strake. CR lost to Katy last week, but came into the game with two impressive back-to-back shutouts. They have the top-rated defense in 19-5A.

Voters have voted down any new high school considerations. I guess Pearland was tired of being everyones whipping boy over the years. Since the Heath era that has not been the case. I was there last night watching my son play. It looks really strange with that building in place of the visitors stands. NS stadium on woodforest now has twice the capacity of Dement. As we're talking about NSA not looking past Pearland, Westfield better not look past Lamar. I don't think they're just gonna lay down for them. They did give us our toughest test during our championship run. They actually put a team on the field considering they're HISD.

Div 1 is tougher this year than Div 2 for sure but that doesn't mean Div 2 is a cakewalk. You may have some Lufkin and SV fans that take exception to that statement.

A lot of us Katy fans wanted the Div 1 berth. A possible NS/Katy or Westfield/Katy matchup would have been great. Plus there was the possibility of a SLC/Katy rematch in the Final. Sorry we couldn't be there in Div 1 this season P1, but Katy won their games and the rest of our district didn't co-operate.

Dement Field - what a great memory. Last game was against Baytown Lee - Drew Tate was the quarterback - now at Iowa and making a Name for himself. Doing the Ganders proud.

Willie Gaston was NS quaterback - now a corner back at UH.
Alot good running backs for NS - Ester and Moore. Recievers like Chad McCullar (whatever happen to him - wasn't he a starting receiver at UH).

2001 - that was a great year for Football. NS played Madison in the dome in what is considered on of the best high school games ever played. Got beat by some guy named Vincent Young (whatever happened to him? - uh - just kidding).

NS has only lost 3 games since 2001. No home loses at GPISD - Let's keep it going.

Of Lamar, Westfield, Pearland and NS - who ever makes it out of the 2nd round - may as well make them the Champs.

Does your son play in the 7th grade?

Four heavyweights in the bottom half and four whatevers in the top. No disrespect to those schools or teams but it is ashame that the four undefeated teams have to square off in the first round while the others advance in the top with not so sterling records.

Really looking forward to the Shore game and the other Region 3 matchups in Div. 1.Right now the school board is looking at 5 proposals about the hs issue. I don't ever recall this being on any PISD ballot since 1986 but of course I may be mistaken. My wife teaches in the district and it has been said for years now through the "teacher grapevine" that as long as one particular school board member remains on the board, Pearland will remain a 1 high school town. Has held true so far. Agreed - can't wait for the Pearland/NS game.
