well there is no arguing this one as of right now because the new district 13-5A is dominating and has a whopping 5 teams in the 7on7 State Championship field now! Klein Oak, Tomball, Klein, Spring, and Klein Forest, and just a bonus Klein Collins who is not one of those teams has gone undefeated in pool play the past two weeks then unfortunately lost in the semifinals for 2 striaght weeks as well. There are 7 other districts that have done their part and have 3 state participants. Here is a breakdown of the state championship teams SO FAR by district.
13-5A has 5 while Districts 4-5A, 8-5A, 11-5A, 12-5A, 15-5A, 16-5A, and 17-5A all have 3 teams that have already qualified. Districts 5-4A, 3-5A, 6-5A, 14-5A, 18-5A, and 21-5A have two qualifiers.

District 6-5A would have 3 qualifiers if we can just get SLC to qualify. :D

Sorry, we just don't understand the concepts involved. All this throwing and catching and stuff. We're going back to the wishbone. :D

Since the 7 on 7 orginated, is there a correlation between winning that tournament and later the state championship in December?

yes it has happened a few times. and there are the occasional exceptions to the rules, especially if you don't run your regular 11 man offense, but you pretty much guaranteed a winning record if you make 7on7 championship game

there is a slight relationship, but there are also several champs who either didn't make the po's, or flamed out in rd 1, too. et hasn't ever gone to the bcs tourny and they seem none the worse for resting. 04 slc somehow survived the embarassing no-show too.

I would love nothing more than to see some team bring back the wishbone and have success doing so. The triple option out of the bone is one of the more enjoyable offenses to watch when its clicking

Klein is 13-1. Only loss to Friendswood in our first tourney, no losses since.

Not a thing if you want to keep your pass incompletion rate low!

Carroll made a pretty good living out of such an offense back in the 3A days, winning three state titles in the process. It was a blast to watch. But we would not have to teach our offense line to block going forward - a now alien concept. Still someday when the defenses really have defneing against the spread really figured out, someone will reinvent the triple option out of the bone and defenses will have forgotten how it used tobe done.

I don't actually know Abilene's record but I'm pretty sure we're undefeated or pretty close to it.

Since the 7 on 7 orginated, is there a correlation between winning that tournament and later the state championship in December?well there was a negative correlation last year. Georgetown won the 2007 7 on 7 Championship and didnt make the playoffs.

You know farmer, I don't see eye to eye with you very often. Me being a T SIP AND A YANKEE fan and all, but you NAILED this one pardner. When Texas and OU used to run that offense, it was a BEAUTIFUL THING. I'm afraid between the spread, west coast offense, the run and shoot, read and react and the fact that they no longer teach sophisticated blocking schemes at the high school or college level, the wishbone is a dinosaur. Those golden days of Bud Wilkinson and Darryl Royal type TRENCH BATTLES are gone, never to return. I hope I am wrong. An Offensive coordinators favorite thing to say these days is GO DEEP. ;)
