I believe we have no business being included in a preseason, national rankings list. This year's squad will be one that will work it's way to that sort of recognition. The talent is there but too many questions have to be answered, too many pieces have to gel. Trinity & Plano are deserving of their status going into the season. We'll have to earn it, in my opinion.

Hopefully we can do better with a high ranking and a national spotlight than we did last year vs. Permian. IMO teams shouldn't be ranked until after they've played a few games, let this year's team bust a grape before they bring out the anointing oil. Just my opinion.

I would tend to agree but then again the other top 100 teams in the country lost 1/2 of their team also and have some questions as to how they are going to respond. The Dragons have been in this spot several times during their recent run.
That top 25 will have teams dropping like flies once the season starts and they show that some were mediocre teams to begin with that additionally lost a ton to graduation.
Most of the FINAL top 25 arent even on the radar yet. You have to put top name teams on the preseason list because SOMEBODY has to be on there.:)
These polls are becoming jokes. Basicly this is a "Teams we heard of" poll. Most of these teams have or are about to participate in a high profile out of state match up.

Trinity #1...
Looks like John Curtis gonna be "Rocky" in this match up going up against Apollo Creed...John Curtis still pretty young-word is they will be starting a 10th grader at QB...
Bastrop, La #7.... Bastrop will be pretty good once again-they got some monsters over there....I believe though West Monroe this year has more talent...They will be in the poll before it's over with...
Nice to see De La Salle at #2....They could return 3 cheerleaders and make the preseason top 5....Same with St. Xavier (Ohio)....

Like I was saying in my other posts about Pahokee and Madison County...
Pahokee has about 600 kids in their high school, and Madison County has about 800 kids in their high school, and they're both ranked in the MaxPreps preseason poll.

Well coach Dodge is gone. That is the question mark. Some people believe it was no fluke that SLC was not up to their same standards Because of the coaching change. So Wasson has to prove he can get the job done to silence the doubters. When Coaches are more important to programs like SLC Katy and Trinity. That is why those three are successful every year regardless of talent. That is what is great about Texas football. If you give the kind of talent to a team like Katy SLC or Trinity that MNW had last year. They would be monsters.

Look, some people here were questioning if SLC would make the top 10 in Texas so how do you jump from that to the top 25 in the country. It is a bit of a stretch for me. Besides I think the KT's know a little more about how to rank teams than this national poll writer does and the KT's have two other teams in front of SLC on the state level. Who knows, maybe Carroll is a top 25 national team but I just don't see it.

It is just for discussion...It's a poll, has no bearing on actual games, but if you don't think the run that Carroll has been on influences state and national polls, your nuts! Katy has been the most dominent team for the last 10 year and has shown no sign of slowing down why arent they in there strictly on reputation.
The most important part to there run was Dodge. If he was there id have no prob. But when you lose a great coach its hard to maintain that status. As when Trinity loses Lineweaver they will fall a little and Same thing with katy and Joseph.

I agree SLC should not be on this list. But I guess it is compiled by sports writers, who probably know a whole lot more than I do.
One point however, is that this season will show if SLC does have 'pipeline' of players who are ready to step up into the 'big-time'. We are led to believe that there is one system throughout all grades in the Carroll ISD; so this season, more than any other without any returning skill players, will prove if SLC is worthy of always being included in the rankings or whether we have just witnessed a unique piece of 5A history, over the last 5 years which is unlikely to be repeated.

I don't think "returning half the starters" is much of a claim; it's the quality of the starters that you return. Are they a bunch of spares that are returning or were they significant contributors, that's the real issue. Trinity is blessed this year with quality returning starters plus a bunch of kids who were "alternate starters" and rotated in and out on both sides of the ball. Of course, that's no guarantee of future success. I think one of the key challenges for Trinity this year will be to see how they handle the pressure of high expectations. They're not used to being in this bright of a spotlight. We'll see in ten weeks or so.

Also agree, no need to go down the road again. However, some seem to never be able to let it go.
Here's a hint for ya too.
Not a Trinity fan or myself that brough it up.

Pretty funny that it was an SLC fan that rehashed it although they had no dog in the fight, but you can sure bet that if they did have a dog in the fight a fight it would be.

No joke. And you are right, my mistake. Should have said neither a Trinity or Katy fan brought it back up.
Trinity went through it with those fans back in 05 and it wasn't pretty as they basicly said the same thing you have said. No way no how Trinity could have stayed on the field or even come close to beating Southlake.

I'm going to revert to my " starter" days... a little boastful...I don't know how you can match future teams across state lines... but I can tell you the boys from Euless, as solid as they are, would find their hands full with this hungry Dragon bunch.
Nothing to lose, no more Dodges, we'd put 58K at TS and don't be surprised at the outcome!!!
Confidently,

06 was the epic battle between Trinity and Carroll
05 was when Carroll and Trinity both won a state title.
Carroll finished undefeated at 16-0 and Trinity finished 14-1.
Trinity had to hear it all offseason whenever the mythical mathcup was brought up. It got pretty heated.;)

That's easy to say knowing that it is impossible for both teams to play each other.
Outcome would be differnt this time around though. Trinity too much, too strong as an all around football team than what Carroll has this year.

That's the point, Trinity's starters are much more talented. 4 D-1 scholarships and counting:notworthy
Not taking anything away from Judson but Trinity's just more talented.
We now have 3 D-1 scholarships and counting :D

Tivy? SV? Reagan?
It's all how you finish. None of these teams made it to state.

Well stated. I think the more talented team was our 05' team, and they were more or less considered the underdogs that year. We have had two years under the spotlight since that 05' championship, and the young 07' team collapsed on national TV against OP....the outcome of the game was good for us, because the rankings and expectations weren't a factor anymore...the only factor was to get back up and concentrate on winning every friday night.
BECAUSE this is a veteran team, I hope they can handle it, and I know Lineweaver will at least keep their eyes off the polls.

Well it's good to know that all the Trinity fans have the right attitude, not worried about polls or ranking but just taking everything one game at a time. But I wouldn't worry about the team eating the poison cheese either http://www.hsgametime.com/dfw/sharedcontent/dws/content/topstories/stories/122407dnspohswhitmire.2cf09d5.html . And as long as they don't, who knows.... ;)

Because Judson is a team that will lose some regular season games. Any team that losses to a 2nd year Varsity team like Wagner should not be in a national spotlight. Trinity has a very good chance at going undefeted.Sv could have cried like you about not being number 2 in the nation losing by 3 points in the last 6 seconds but we decided to respond with a little more class than that. ;)
The day you show some class will be when you grow up. SV has a great program and you are the only one of their fans that show disrespect consistently. You really do them a dis-service with your posts. We only have to look at your profile picture to see your attitude. Your hate/jealousy with Judson keeps dragging me into replying. I am trying to ignore your posts but you keep dragging me in. Are you going to claim some teenager jacked your screen name again?

I guess the Judson Rockets are the scrubs again........that's OK because we will be at state AGAIN. How can Trinity be #1 and Judson not listed........remember 3 points!!
I dont get it either who cares they are all haters anyways;)

And so are the Judson Rockets, I understand. As someone wisely put it, you don't count out Judson until they've been beat in the playoffs.

Does the Truth hurt you that much? Judson losses to a 4a team last year and then to a 2nd year varsity team and y'all claim you should be nationally ranked....I don't care if you like me or not im not here to make online friends. And it is just hilarious that you try and associate your dislike for one person telling you the tuth on a internet message board with a whole fan base.I'll do you a favor there is an ignore function on this message board take advantage of it if you really can't take criticism. I posted facts and the fatcs are a team that loses to a 4a team and and a 2nd year varisty team should not be in the national spotlight state finalist or not. Thats it and thats all

Who knows, maybe Carroll is a top 25 national team but I just don't see it.the obvious answer has already been posted. these polls are stupid, made by know-nothings without the preparation usually put forth by even old dave. fishwrap is too good for them.

Its summertime. Lets let September roll around and some games play out and then we can discuss all this. I want to wait until after SLC vs North Shore before I decide what SLC has for 2008.
