View Full Version : Consol/Cove.. My take and so long...

Good defensive game. Consol gave up 2 stupid TD's on an interception and a punt block.
Consol D shut down Cove's overly-lauded QB and RB. Darn near all game. Cove's only offensive TD came via a long pass early, blown coverage.
Cove's D did a good job of trying to shut down Consol's O passing game or so it appeared. the fact that the consol QB couldnt' hit the broad side of a barn, well..... Consol's O line did a pretty good job with all the Cove stunts. Once again, though, the Consol O-line had a few key holding and offside penalties. If we had continued to pound the ball running with Palmer, we win. By doing that, you don't throw the INT. In addition, both Cove and AMC had kicks that missed badly for cove and missed by an inch or three for Consol. By pounding the ball with Palmer, you avoid that 4th and 1 and try the field goal. The coaches this year got so concerned that we were only a running team that they 've been force feeding this passing offense even though our best QB was hurt. Give me a QB like Heights or cove or shoemake have and our line to block for him and we win state.
Cove, your offense is not that good.
Consol, your coaches need to figure out what plays to call and not waste so much time. On the last drive of the game, one of Consols recievers catches a pass for 2 yards gain, but keeps the clock running. Burn the time out. You have to know when to Not catch the ball.
We did not have our best QB in there, but our best was injured. But, he's not best by much. Our QB hit one long pass and pretty much nothing more than 10 yards after that. The kid just can't pass for **** tonight, but apparently the coaches think the QB position is plug and play. Palmer had his best game of the season. Should have kept feeding him the ball. There were times where I was sure he was stopped only to see him weasel his way out of tackle after tackle.
Cove O did an incredible job burning time in their last drive of the game. Our D couldn't stop their running back quickly enough and they effectively won the game by running and burning a good 5 minutes off the clock.
The pick in the endzone to end the game was good defensive coverage on an very underthrown ball. If that ball has 5 more yards on it, we're in OT.
Cove fans, you've been telling us all how great your O is. They are either average or Consol has a GREAT defense.
I agree with Aggie. Consol coaches burned a lot of time at the end of the game. That was a shame. But, that wasn't the reason we lost.
We gave up an INT for a TD and a blocked punt for a TD. Spot the other team 14 points they didn't earn and well... Game over.
I've said all along that sooner or later, we'd spot a really good team a big lead and we'd not be able to come back. Cove played a smart game. Give Welch some credit.
If Cove had a decent kicking game, they'd be hell to stop in the playoffs, but their punter is really really bad, or at least he sucked it up pretty bad tonight.
Oh and this is kinda funny.... the Cove players "barking" after warmups was fricking hilarious. If that is supposed to be intimidating, gimme a break. Kinda a special olympics thing in my opinion. But, if you guys get off on it, so be it. The kids on our side were laughing.
Cove, your defense and kick defense won this game. Your O didn't do much with the critical exception of burning time effectively at the end of the game.
The better team did not win tonight. But, I am biased. I predict that AMC goes further into the playoffs than Cove. But, my only other prediction was apparently flawed.
On the earlier brought up subject of officials, there were some incredibly bad non-calls for interference tonight that went against us. But, if our coaches had kept feeding the ball to Palmer and stopped trying to pull some lame *** version of the West coast offense, we win. Period.
I take my hat off to cove. More opportunistic, took advantage of the situation and did what they had to do. I'll be interested in following their playoff run and I can't wait to meet up with them again next year.
Peace to all of you. I am a man of my word, I keep my Promises. I'm out and it has been a lot of fun.

AMC beat'em everywhere except where it counts. Great game and AMC coaches had a great game plan to keep the ball away from Coves offense and was very successful most of the night.
Two blown plays (an interception in the Red Zone & let a blocked punt happen at the 15 yard line both time Coves Defense scored)) by by AMC's Offense which made the difference in the game. Cove is a great team and took full advantage of the two mistakes.
Last play of the game should have been called as Pass interference Cove defender pushed AMC-Detron Lewis out of the End Zone right in front of the Ref. Then Cove's DB Atkinson stepped infront of the ball after the other Cove defender had pushed Detron Lewis out of the End Zone. Should have been a 15 yard penalty and AMC gets another try at the end zone. Doesn't mean AMC would have scored with another try but the game should'nt have ended on a blown call by a ref.
Congratulations Cove on the district championship and the AMC Tigers should have gained a little confidence out of the game too because even though they were out scored in the game, AMC out played the Cove Dawgs which are the #8 ranked team in the State.
Great Game to watch - but unfortuantely somebody had to lose.

Wow what a bad way to go out dude!! On the one hand you say COVE Offense is not that good then you turn around and say the O did a good job of controlling the game when they had to. The better team did not win tonite...my,my,my that sounds like sour grapes to me!! Offense, defense and special teams makes a complete team. When the O is down then the D picks it up. That is what happened tonite. You did not lose by accident you got beat. COVE is the 13-5A champions and have not lost since 2003!! Why would you assume AMC is better??? Perhaps if they were they would have won the game. See you later guy and I will be on the college side rooting for VTech. My son plays Texas high school football but VTech rules :D GO COVE, Go Vtech!!!

It's sad that A & M fans are making all these reason why the little tiger got beat. Face it Little tiger fans the better team won in your house. Now who's your Daddy in 5A? The DAWGS. Yes barking get us off. I did'nt hear much noise from your side line. I thought maybe the little tiger fans were at a funeral. Also put some money into your stadium, it's has to be one of the worst in the district. Cove fans almost did not have enough room to watch the game. Yes, A & M is a GOOD team and your D played very well but the better team won as a team. When the O is not working the D steps up. That's a sign of a good team. We will now focus on Belton to complete our regular season and then prepare for the playoffs. I wish A & M the best and remember who your Daddy is. Go DAWS Go!!!!!

A&M's Stadium is pretty much brand new.......I wouldn't be talking about Cove's Stadium with their deer stand as a press box.

Wow centex, your anti Cove BS is getting really old. We have one of the best stadiums in the district, if not the best. And the press box is almost brand new. It must suck rooting for a team that can't beat the team you hate most.

You must not get out much cause even with the improvements it's decent....but not that best in the district. Waco and Leo Buckley are the best........

Brand New?? The stadium opened in 1989, that's 17 years of football and CSISD has made no improvements or renevations to the stadium expect for a new scoreboard, hardly brand new

Well compared to Cove's it's brand new....
1. Waco
2. Killeen Leo Buckley
3. Belton (it's newer than Cove's)
4. Cove
5. Bryan
6. Temple
7. A&M
They are all good........Bryan's is probably better than Cove's cause it's concrete and larger........Cove's reminds me of a revamped Paul Tyson in Waco.

i'm not sure when Cove opened their stadium but I know they have had renovations done in 2001, 2002 and 2004. Like I said Tigerland today is exactly the way it was in 1989 except for the scoreboard and in 1989 Consol was a fairly small 4A school. Definitly an outdated stadium but one of the best playing surfaces

A&M and Bryan's field are very nice grass turfs.
I went to A&M Junior High when Consol used to play their games at Kyle Field.

i didnt like the kind of turf at Waco ISD cause its not the same kind of grass turf as ours....i havent played on beltons since they got the turf....have to wait till next year....cove's stadium is all around good.....we treat the vistiors very well....it pissed me off that at AMC we had to get dressed where they wrestle at....there were only like 15 fold up chairs for our team and the rest had to sit on the floor....

My ranking of District 13-5A stadiums:
1. Waco ISD (one of the best high school venues in the State)
2. Killeen's Leo Buckley (very nice stadium; perfect for AAAAA football)
3. Belton (new and has a traditional high school feel)
4. Copperas Cove (an older version of Belton)
5. Temple (needs updating)
6. Bryan (see Temple)
7. AMC (looks like a 1980s AAA stadium)

I started High School at Cove in 1976 and it is the SAME stadium, stayed pretty much the same until Welch started making changes in late 90's. A new stadium was voted down several times. . . .
My personnal rankings
1. Waco (no contest here, best in the area hands down)
2. Belton, now that they've got the turf
3. Cove got turf, video scoreboard (although it's to loud)
4. Leo Buckley , better with the new turf ,early season games
suck for visitors with the sun
5. Temple great seating cap., poor parking, needs turk & scoreboard
6. Bryan ...ok
7. AMC....updated version of Georgetown crappy field, great if you wanna
make a movie with a 60's HS football theme. 5A school and seats end at the 20 yrd line.......just kinda give's ya a giggle

I believe the only thing that is wrong with Cove's stadium is the Stands.. To small. everything is else is top of the line. Brand new jumbotron, concessions and locker rooms. Overall its better than beltons now

For Belton we need a jumbotron and bigger band stands... the marching 100 use to be 100 people, now its like 250, so they need some more room. other than that i think its purdy good

we could extend the home side a little bit...but nobody this year was able to fill the visitor side even with our band on their side....

It is not the same stadium, its not even the same field, only thing the same is the location. AS I said before Cove has made many changes to the stadium under Welch..aluminium bleachers, pressbox, scoreboard, turf. But yes Consol is in definate need of additions and renovations. Tigerland Stadium was nice 4A stadium in the early 90's but is a pathetic 5A stadium in this day and age with ISD's sinking alot more money into athletic departments. Keep in mind that it was all a sudden surge with these state of art high school facilities popping up in the late 90's. Not many 5A shools have made no renovations or even built a brand new stadium since 2000. CSISD just has not been able to put alot of money into athletics. College Station is one of the fastest growing towns in the state and CSISD has had to spend alot of money over the last few years with completely renovating the high school and building several new jr. Highs and middle schools. Also the "Robin Hood" has really taken a toll on CSISD. I don't know the exact numbers but A&M Consolidated has had to give Bryan ISD a very large amount of money over the years with Bryan being such a poor school district. There is talk of Consol and Bryan building a new stadium and sharing it. Problem is Consol would be paying for well over half of the stadium and have to share. Thats not sitting well with many
supercentex
10-30-2005, 09:04 PM
Consol even when I went to school there was having money problems....they are one of those schools that have plenty of money..but the robin hood really hurts them. So, I can see why they haven't improved the facilities.
