Oh they are for real alright! I think they have a very good chance to go - all - the - way! Because of there defense. They are a swarming defense and will smother you. Then the offense which has come together nicely! which will march the length of the field or will strike in one fail swoop! Abilene High has a very balanced team this year, make no mistake this is not last years team, but is every bit as good, if not better! I see the Eagles in the state game this year and maybe even bring it home for all of Abilene to see. GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #1 Bring it on home! :D

Abilene is getting better. Cooper is terrible, but a 40 point win over your rival is always a nice accomplishment.

Cooper is having a down year, but there's no excuse for taking the worst loss in the history of the series against your arch-rival...especially in a shutout. I sat on the Cooper side with a couple of lifelong Coogs and they were almost in disbelief...they knew Abilene would win going in, but they expected to at least put up a fight. Cooper played tough for a quarter and a half, but pretty much self-destructed just before intermission. Cooper put together a couple decent drives, but never really came close to punching one in. Sitting amongst them, I could feel the Coogs' pain.

On the other hand, Abilene looked really good. They made Cooper pay for their mistakes and they had a nice offensive gameplan. They ran a couple of plays that I'd never seen before...at least not out of the formations they ran them out of. The Eagles ran the ball pretty well and Taylor Potts had a solid night through the air. Potts does have a tendency to throw into traffic and he seems, at times, to lock in on Leong no matter what the defense is giving him elsewhere. Still, he's really good and the Eagles look like a legitimate playoff contender...they were impressive.

The talent pool at Cooper is not what it has been in the past and it's tough. Believe it or not, last night's 40-0 win over Cooper was Abilene High's biggest margin of victory in the series. The previous margin was 35-0 in the very first meeting in 1961. Cooper still leads the all-time series 30-14-1.

Mansfield Summit (7-1) beat you 31-14 and that was a sign of the future.
You beat 4A Brownwood (2-6) 21-14 and that wasn't good.
You beat Del Rio (3-5) 28-6.
You beat SA Central (3-5) 30-17.
You beat L Coronado (1-7) 31-21.

You beat teams from weak districts and a 4A team. You lost to a good team from a bad district and you had to get ready for 3-5A.

M Lee (4-4) beat you 15-0 and that's the best you've seen in over a month.
Odessa (6-2) got you 42-14.
Midland (6-2) took you out 56-8.
Abilene (8-0) got you 40-0.

I think that's bad.

Favpac - Abilene returned two starters on defense from last years team, corner Stephen Powell and linebacker Micheal Reno, and two other players that saw a lot of sub time but were not starters, safety Wade Baker and linebacker Jividen McCoy. The Defense started the year good, but with some obvious weaknesses due to the lack of experience. They have continued to improve each week as they get more game time and seem to still be improving.

I know how you feel. You're one of the best posters around here and give us good info on Cooper. I thought WF was going to be good when they beat you in the scrimmage and then they struggled, too.
