Well, Flying them for the first time to Europe (after layover in Detroit). I usually just fly Airtran and Delta since they are based in Atlanta and flew them both when I lived in Dallas. Anyone had any bad/good stories with them?

I know that Delta and Northwest merged, so your'e experience shouldnt be too far off from that of Delta. Overall they have a good rep, you wont be stuck for 10 hours anywhere like Jetblue.

My experience is that U.S. carriers are not up to par on long-haul transatlantic flights. Never flown NW, but here are my rankings:

1. Singapore
2. Air France
3. Swiss
4. Lufthansa
5. KLM (Dutch)
6. Delta
7. LOT (Polish)
8. American
9. United
10. Aeroflot
11. Air Ukraine

Singapore is far and away the best. The food is great, seats comfortable. I had my own tv in my seat in economy with a selection of about 50 films. I watched No Country for Old Men and Cloverfield. They still had pretty flight attendents. You also got a free Singapore Sling with dinner and a real menu with four different selections, even in economy. Air France also has good food.

If I were flying transatlantic, I would go for Virgin Atlantic or British Airways. Flying American carriers overseas just dosent match up.

I hear Singapore is just the best there is as far as comfort and luxury (for an airplane anyway). I flew Continental first class to London in January and Economy in March (guess which one the company paid for and the second one doesn't count!!). I thought they were pretty good - in First (Business is what they call it) the food was excellent - restaurant quality. The seats reclined quite a bit but not flat which drove me nuts. But I had my own TV and i could watch what I wanted. I think I watched 3 movies and fell asleep over Ireland finally. The leg room was amazing. Economy, of course, was not near as comfortable but for some reason I slept better - I'm just cheap I guess:rolleyes:. I think it was because they didn't offer a 5 course meal in economy - I can't sleep on a full stomach! I would fly CO again to Europe.

My family lived in singapore for about 4 1/2 years. Nothing compares to singapore air. I also enjoyed flying EVA air as well.

I don't get a choice because it's a group flight unfortunatly! But I agree, I would for sure go Virgin Atlantic or British Airways

I was astonished. Truly a cut above. The heck of it was, I paid less than half what U.S. carriers were offering for a comparable flight.

I forgot to rank BA. They'd go below Delta for me, primarily because flying through the London Airport is a hassle. Also, they're bad about losing bags and the food doesn't stack up too well.

Actually, this is the best out there. I heard it has a couple of bars and full sized king and queen beds!

Big Peach, you will probably be flying on one of these 3 three, it depends on where your going.

How many arrogant overstuffed Americans, with an extra bag, do each of these airlines have to transport on a daily basis???

Nearly all of those flights have been headed to or from the U.S. with lots of Americans on board. In all honesty, Americans are pretty good humored when it comes to traveling and nearly all of my memorable unpleasant passenger memories involve other nationalities.

Those are just my honest rankings, no shot at U.S. carriers. If they gave me a comfy seat, good movies, and a decent meal, then I'd move them up the list.
